  1. What a great idea!!! My greys spit vegies out. NOT neurotic!!! Loving and caring!!!!
  2. My girls have had squeaky tums. I have found that pain can cause tummies to squeak and rumble. Lady always had a noisy tum when her back was aching. Maybe some probiotics may help?
  3. Yes I agree. Perhaps it is better to let them live their finite lives, than to torture them for longevity. How lucky are you!! Blue is a sensitive little character. I will investigate the famotidine. Thanks!
  4. Boooeee is much better tonight. This morning I left a very flat little old man. Gave him cooked rice two thirds, and one third lean mince beef cooked with the rice for breakky yesterday morning his evening meal and this morning. When I got home he was bouncing, and had dug a huge separation anxiety hole. ( he is missing the girls who both crossed the bridge recently) Troubles me that for some time now he has been looking back at his tummy after I feed him. I think this little fella has more issues than his LP. Most nights he is restless and pants, between midnight and 3am. I put this down to respiration and too lazy to get off our bed to go for a pee ( We have the biggest pet door!!) Last night we had no episode. Thinking that all this time it may be tummy issues. He looks sick straight after I feed him. Only greyhound owners know that pronounced triangle they get on their forehead when they are in pain or out of sorts. Because he had a terrible reaction to Prednisone on first diagnosis, we have been bouncing him with doxycycline on a regular basis to help with inflammation. Recently he had a 5 day course of Clavulox. Wonder if what I thought was LP panting was belly sensitivity When He is feeling a little better we will start probiotics. I have some. Any thoughts? At the moment he is coughing probably got a bit of rice stuck in his throat. I rolled it in balls and fed by hand.
  5. Thanks!! Oldies can have so many hidden issues. It's a terrible state of panic when we make decisions with good intentions, but dire consequences, blame and regret if things don't work out. Will try. He turns his nose up at raw food, and has been known to vomit raw up. For now I will try to get his tummy back on track with bland food. Thanks !
  6. Thank you so much to JohnF, macoduck "Ducky", tbhounds, Batmom and neylasMom for your replies. Your advice has been helpful and very reassuring. XXXXX
  7. Thanks for your reply. The dog food is manufactured, a dog chub. (We call it dog sausage) Blue has a tiny amount of raw mince for giving meds or a treat. I am onto feeding him rice! Thanks for the advice. Do you know what I can give him to provide nutrients. That is why I try moist dog food. A lot of dry foods even when soaked seem to upset his tum.
  8. I am feeling better today. Decided to not give blue any more meds. The dog sausage is off the menu (It is commercial cooked chub). I gave him 24 hours to fast then he had boiled chicken and white rice for breakky this morning. Big burp from him as I write this reply. I have decided to get is tummy right. Then maybe when the weather is cooler, I will have his liver and kidney function checked. I don't know about his heart. Four years ago he had x-rays. The Vet said all looked fine. If all is good I will consider starting meds again.
  9. Called the Vet. Don't know if the diarrhoea is from the meds or too much dog sausage. (Blue has a very sensitive tum) Being giving him dog sausage as it is easy to swallow. He has also been having boiled chicken thighs. I have been giving him extra lately? He was passing sloppy stools then finally projectile brown water, at least a pint/600ml in each of two motions. Either way I chose not to medicate this morning. (Gums are good) Vet says if he isn't dehydrated he may have meds tonight, up to me. I don't know..................................... She said it may take a while for his system to adjust, and perseverance may pay off in the long run. Also said they were open tomorrow if I should encounter any strife. I assume she means dehydration. As in her words "might be just a couple of uncomfortable days in the Surgery" We are experiencing very hot weather here (not in our house- very cool air-conditioning). I would not consider travelling him in the heat. It was my choice to start this medication in hope of making Blue's breathing more comfortable. He IS breathing better, but I am freaking out. The regret element is huge in me. I feel sick to the core. I am so fearful what decision to make. I
  10. Blue has developed terrible tummy pain and diarrhoea. Stopping meds and calling the vet this morning.
  11. I was terrified and frightened of side affects when I started Blue on this drug for LP. He is on 50mg twice a day to start, then will be taken up to 75mg twice a day. We didn't have any preliminary tests before starting. He was a bit wobbly on the first day, and today just won't settle. I think his heart rate has raised slightly. He is bright but sedated. He is eating well and urinating okay. He's pooping okay too. He has become more vocal. My worry is probably unjustified, but I worry about his heart rate as I am unsure of his cardiac status. Can someone please share with me if these early reactions are normal and if so will they lessen with time. Hoping I have done the right thing.
  12. What a sweetie!! You were the "BEST" Mum. Sorry to your sad heart.
  13. I agree. My very first greyhound "Swampy" was incredibly old when we took her from a bad place to our own. After 20 months of a good life she became paralysed in the back legs . Back then there weren't the veterinary advances we have now. On Vets suggestion we allowed her to suffer two weeks with medication that didn't work and could never have. Only wish we hadn't allowed the suffering to Swampy and ourselves. Letting them go is not cruel, but kind, loving and compassionate.
  14. Thanks! I now know why Blue may get hot, uncomfortable and panting at night. (Sleepless ones for me) I will try feeding him earlier and see what happens. Will post my results when I find out.
  15. Thinking about starting Blue on doxepin for partial LP next week. I have only just discovered its use by reading Greytalk forums. He has had partial LP for nearly four years. He is 12 on Jan 31 and I am a concerned about the potential side effects. Would love to hear some feedback from other Grey owners who have used this drug, before I commit to using it. Thanks!
  16. So sorry to hear of your sweet little Misty dog passing. Tears in my eyes and heart for you. I know the pain you are feeling, having travelled a similar path recently with my baby. You did every thing you possibly could. Rejoice in the bond of love you both shared.
  17. I can bring up the instructions how to, but need to have the instructions printed in my hand to carry them out. Is there any way I can have a printable copy to look at whilst trying to post pics? Thanks!!!
  18. Our dog "Blue" is nearly 12. He suffers from Partial LP. He does the gagging urrrrrr khukk cough from time to time. This condition was diagnosed almost 4 years ago. Blue was coughing up brown sputum. Blue has a sensitive tummy, and belches after meals. He is also lethargic, probably more so now than when he was diagnosed. He "hucks" after drinking due to water going down his windpipe. The paralysis obviously narrows his throat capacity for breathing and swallowing, and causes irritating inflammation. He copes okay with my management of his condition and is living a good life. I am too frightened to consider surgery. I am not saying your girl has this condition, but I was fobbed off by my Vet/Vets when Blue was unwell. I went to another Vet for his diagnosis. I still use my sub-standard Vet, and I still feel like I am a huge bother to him. Unfortunately I cannot realistically use the good Vet all the time. Little issues are not little to you. If you are concerned please seek a second opinion.
  19. Vetmedin comes in a solution, with a syringe. Please check it out, More expensive, but a dream to administer. Was great for Schnookie. Gabapentin is a curse to give! Maybe try cream cheese. Also always dose with 3 treats...give one without the meds, letting your dog see the second treat with meds. Give the med treat with the third treat close to follow in sight. Often the anticipation of the third treat so close will make them gulp down the yuckies. Good Luck
  20. Oh "Bugger" Sometimes I think the Universe is so unfair!!! Oh my, you are just so special............................. Lucky old darlings to have someone like you. Your angel wings have already grown.
  21. So sorry for your loss of dear sweet Allen. Thanks for sharing his lovely photos. A very precious boy.
  22. Oh my, how these dear old doggies trial us emotionally and physically. Schnookie was on vetmedin, stiboestrol, gabapentin and metronidazole. I believe that the vetmedin improved her quality of life as she had a stage 5 heart murmer. Didn't improve my quality of life 4.30am vetmedin before her 5.30 breakfast seven days a week for 5 months. Alarm set so 12 hourly dose wasn't missed. My vets all assured me how safe Vetmedin is. Schnookie lived till almost 15. She had extensive arthritis, glaucoma, a heart murmur, dementia, incontinence, a skin cancer, lumps and bumps, and compromised kidneys. With a lot of perseverance we managed to put her weight from 24kg up to 26kg. Our food shuffle included minced steak cooked, cous cous and pork scotch fillet, Good O's dog food chopped finely, cooked chicken and rice, store bought roast chicken. chicken kiev (a winner!!) and beef scotch fillet. Just like Misty she seemed to be hungry, but just couldn't find quite what was appealing to eat. We had several occasions of runny accidents (I am the worlds best carpet cleaner). And always a celebration when solid stools appeared. Schnookie didn't die from renal failure. I helped her lovingly across the bridge when we both had had enough. I am glad to hear Misty is going okay and I understand the emotional rollercoaster you are riding here. All my love to you both.
  23. Just maybe Lola worked out very quickly what a wonderful variety of food was available at her new home. Sort of like us pigging out on boiled lollies (candy) then discovering chocolate!
