  1. Passion scared the sh!t out of me this morning. I was sleeping, woke up to someone puking so I sat up. When I sat up, all the dogs leaped up. They pushed Passion off the bed and she fell, cracking her head on the dresser leg. I went over to her and her head was tilted funny and she was twitching. She was trying to get up but couldn't. I picked her up and laid her on the bed. She wasn't responding to me at all. Then she started panting and her heart was racing. I didn't know what to do. I was worried the other dogs might jump on the bed or worse, attack her. I moved her to the dining room and baby gated her in there. She was still panting and laying funny. I called Batmom and I'm sure she couldn't understand a word I said between my sobs. She told me to get her to the vet. I heard what she told me but I couldn't function. I just stood there with tears streaming down my face. I knew I could get her to the car but I didn't think I could do the 20 min drive with her struggling in the back, trying to get up. I called my vet at home, he didn't answer but he called me right back. It's his wife's cell so she must have guessed it was an emergency call for him and told him to call me. I told him what happened and he asked when, I said just a few minutes ago. It was actually closer to 20 minutes by that time. He asked what she was doing and I said just laying there now. He told me to let her lay there for 10 minutes and then call him back. She still wasn't responding to me but she had stopped panting and her heart seemed to have slowed down a little. She struggled to sit up and puked again. When she sat up, her body was still twitching. The puke was just yellow bile and it was her puking earlier. After 15 minutes, I called him back. She was now responding to me and watching with her eyes when I moved but she still wasn't moving. He told me to intice her to get up with a treat. She wouldn't move at first but finally she got up. She wasn't totally steady on her feet but she chomped the treat like normal. He told me to keep an eye on her and what to look for and call him later if those things show up. She so was pretty much seeing stars and was dazed. I don't see anything on her head where she hit it but I'm sure she has a headache. I have never been so scared! It's been 2 and a half hrs since it happened and I still want to puke. My head is pounding and I'm still in tears. She's resting on the couch after eating a ton of treats and her breakfast. She doesn't want me out of her sight so follows me when I leave the room. I wasn't planning to go any where today anyway so will keep an eye on her. I'll bring her to work tomorrow too. I thought I was going to have to send her to the bridge today. I let her eat her breakfast on the couch This was right after I got her up for the first time. She was ready for more treats. Now she's laying in a sunbeam Edited to add: I've never been so happy to hear her whine! Made me cry happy tears when I saw her nose start twitching in a nose whine.
  2. Lucky had a similar reaction after his dental. The vet called me and told me to come get him ASAP because he was freaking out. They kept a close eye on his temp. It took him a while to calm down once I had picked him up. I decided never again will he go under. Scared the crap out of me!!
  3. Looks like a bruise. I see them on mine once in a while.
  4. Passion was a kennel pet. She finally out grew it after 6 years
  5. I'm glad to hear this ps we spoke on the phone about 2 years ago. You donated a custom portrait for my groups picnic in MN. It was nice talking to you
  6. This just happened at my house tonight. I soaked the foot in epsom salt and have it vet wrapped so she can't lick it.
  7. My foster is at the vet today for a dental She could use good thoughts . ------------- Update The vet called and her dental went well. No pulled teethers. They removed a skin tag and she's in good shape overall. I'll go pick her up in a few hours.
  8. I brush my pups teeth twice a day. I also put Plaque-off on their kibble once a day. That has really helped a lot! I got it from a Gt'er Clicky They also get pork neck bones and raw hides about once every 2 weeks. Lucky gets Petzlife spray at least once a day and if I remember, twice a day.
  9. Mine get bones once in a while plus I brush twice a day Plaque-off once a day on their kibble I have oravet to use once a week but have forgotten the last 2 weeks. I find it's a mess to put it on their teeth.
  10. I've been looking at it twice a day to see how it's doing. This morning it wasn't red but still a lump. He's not limping at all. I didn't have time to soak it before work so will do that twice tonight. He lets me touch his foot and only pulls his paw away if I press on it.
  11. what was your approach to treating lena's anxiety, if i may ask? I used DAP, melatonin, walking every day-nothing worked. I also crated her which made her SA worse. I stopped crating and made sure we had a daily routine.
  12. I know you have decided to return Ross but wanted to share what it was like with Lena Lena had bad SA- she was returned twice because of it. Destroyed a bedroom in her first home. Broke out of the crate and has the scars to show for it. Peed/pooped all over the house. Barked herself hoarse. The first month as my foster was hell. I used DAP, melatonin, walking every day-nothing worked. She was even with 3 other hounds. The only thing that worked what time. 6 months later, she's a completely different hound. No SA at all although she does still get anxious in new environments.
  13. I noticed Lucky limping last night. I touched his paw and felt a lump between the pads. The only thing I can think of is a splinter. I have mulch and wood chips in my yard so if he were running, he could have gotten it that way. Hard to take a picture If it is a wood sliver, I guess it entered between his toes while running. Lump right in the middle He gets antibiotics the first week of every month so I started them last night. He got a treat after his pills Also will soak it in epsom salt 2- 3 times a day. He's eating an acting normal. Not even limping today. Took his temp last night and normal as well. Should I try this? clicky Any other thoughts on what it might be? -------------------------------------------------------- Update 12/30 I'm pretty sure it's a seed wart I'll take a better look with a flash light when we get home from work. He was messing with it a second ago and it looks like the seed wart that Passion had.
  14. Can someone please remind me to keep that dang pocket door shut at my house? Geesh, I can hear Diamond in the kitchen and sure enough, I forgot to shut the pocket door duh
  15. Mine don't get excited except when it's supper time
  16. Welcome We need pictures of your new family member Everyone is giving great advice. I only want to point out that brushing teeth once a week isn't enough, it should be daily. My vet has an article about the health issues not brushing can cause in the long run, I will post once I have it. Good luck
  17. Can't you put his left over's in the fridge and feed in the morning? Hope it's nothing and he's just being picky.
  18. Lena had really bad SA (like yours, destroyed crates, rooms, etc) and because of this was returned by 2 different families. She was an only hound in those homes. I've had her 6 months and she's gotten so much better with my hounds. She's actually normal now and doesn't have any SA anymore.
