  1. Passion is so busy talking that she's not sleeping at night I did pick up a bag of the kibble she used to eat. I'm going to start feeding that to her again to see if that helps with the during the night whining. Last resort, she will sleep downstairs. Which I really don't want to do but I need to sleep.
  2. Anyone giving phenobarb notice their pup is more whiny on it? OMG- Passion is horrible with the whining. I don't know what she wants. Before she only whined outside of the house, now it's all the time. I'm pretty sure she's annoying the other dogs too ======================================================== Passion was waking me up in the middle of the night, whining. I talked to my vet last Sunday about giving Melatonin. I've given her 3mg the last 4 nights and she hasn't woken me up at all. Course, now I'm used to waking up so I'm still waking up
  3. Do you really believe that there are safe hounds with small...FAST... animals? Just in case...dont give the kennel away before talking to me. Yes, I think you can get one that will be safe. It might take a while though. The kennel is in my rafters so don't worry
  4. Linda- there's no reason why you can't get another hound. I still have your kennel in my garage and can bring it back any time Call Donna and let her know you are looking. She will find one little dog safe for you.
  5. I don't want to do herbs, just want to know about kibble. She's had 2 seizures that I've witnessed. Not sure how many when I haven't been home You did a ton for Rainey Kim! I hope realize that
  6. This is the food list- I want to know if GTer's believe in this food chart and does it help. http://www.herbsmith...sp#coolingfoods The vet wanted me to feed duck but Passion has had pancreatisis so that's why I went with turkey. I could go with white fish but she doesn't like the NB white fish and sweet potato. She was certified in Medical Acupuncture from Colorado State University in May 2009.
  7. It's complicated and I don't understand 1% of it and have been using a vet who practices eastern medicine since around 1996. Not sure why you switched, but it might be to your advantage to use the other vet also and see if they can come up with a treatment plan. Is the new vet IVAS? I think I mentioned I didn't really care for the first vet. She never came back in the room after she put the needles in so none of my questions got answered.I switched to a vet closer to my house and recommened by a friend. She has a greyhound and spent a long time talking to me. ============================================================= I'm not asking about acupuncture or medications- just kibble.
  8. I took Passion to a holistic vet back in May. She suggested that I switch her kibble to a turkey based. I forget why- something about Passion needing cooling foods because she's having seizures. She gave me a sheet of foods to feed and not feed. She's been on this kibble for about a month but should I see any difference? And if so, what would I see? She has not had any seizures but she's also on phenobarb. The reason I ask, I'm thinking of switching her back to a chicken based. Anyone know anything about Chinese Medicine? I want to do whatever I can for Passion. I've switched to another holistic vet and she does not practice Chinese Medicine so I can't ask her. Thanks And a picture....just cuz'
  9. She wouldn't give me valium, I asked. I did tell her that I have not changed anything recently or use chemicals. She looked at me blankly. Did I mention she didn't know why I was giving ice cream? I'm already keeping a log and have note pads all over the house ready to use. Thanks
  10. I did get it at Costco and it was $32 for 1 month
  11. FINALLY got the call from the neuro vet. Appt is at 1pm today. I'm not going to work today or this weekend but I do have a dr appt myself for my migraines that I can't miss (at 2:45pm). Made that appt 6 weeks ago. Hopefully I will still get to my appt but Thunder's is more important right now. Thanks for all the good thoughts. I was in a panic waiting for the vet to call but now I can calm down. Or at least try to
  12. The ice cream helps bring their blood sugar back up. Thank you Judy for that tip The vet finally called me back and is calling in the referral. They did say they can perscribe the drugs to me but I'm taking the advice here and taking him to see a neuro vet.
  13. No, nothing has changed. He had a seizure at the track which is why he was retired so early. He's only a baby, 2 Still waiting for the vet to call me back.
  14. Vet opens at 8am. I've already left a message that I need a referral. Talked to someone at the neurology clinic to get the process. They will call me for an appt when they get the referral. Already text my group-got the go ahead to make the appt. I need to get more icecream for him. Now I'm scared for him.
  15. He just had another seizure- lasted about a minute. He didn't pee this time. I text my vet (he's not with the group I'm fostering with) to see where I should take him. I need a referral so will call the vet that did he neuter.
  16. 2 weeks ago, I moved my bedroom to the attic. I had to keep safety in mind so I have the top of the stairs baby gated shut and beds all over the floor surrounding my bed. The dogs wear muzzles at night because of Passion's seizures and now because of Thunder. The fur kids were all so good last night. Other than Hammie who jumped up on the bed and barked at him, the others just laid on their dog beds and watched me. Judy- I emailed my group. He's only had 1 seizure that I've seen so not sure if they will want to wait until he has another one. I'm 99% sure he had one when I was at work. He's such a good boy. I love him - he'd stay but the inn is full. He and Lucky have the same dad and are so similar- they make me smile.
  17. Passion started whining and woke me up. I couldn't get her to stop so I was half awake when Thunder (the foster) had a seizure. He was laying on my feet and kicking really bad. I sat up and he was very stiff with his head thrown over the side of the bed. The other dogs were sleeping. I turned on the light and grabbed my cell to check the time. It was about 10:26pm. He was foaming at the mouth and kinda snorting. I already had a belly band on him so tried to push a blanket under him incase he peed. Hammie woke up and jumped over him and barked at him. I got Hammie (the foster) off the bed and the other dogs stayed away. Thunder stopped jerking for about a second and started again. The entire seizure lasted about 2-3 minutes. When he stopped jerked, I decided to run to the kitchen and get ice cream. I was worried about leaving him on the bed but he wasn't thrashing so I thought he would be ok and not fall off the bed. When Passion had her seizure, she was flapping around on the floor like a fish out of water. Thunders was not that bad. When I got back upstairs with icecream, he was standing next to the bed but was unsteady. I put a spoonful of icecream in his mouth. He wasn't steady so I carried him downstairs and noticed he'd peed in the belly band (I put one on him before bed because we are sleeping in my new room and the boys might try to mark). I got all the dogs downstairs and outside. Thunder paced and wanted back inside. I closed him off in the spare bedroom, ran upstairs with a towel and tried to clean up the pee on my bed. I have to check the date but Thunder had a seizure at the track so they retired him. He will be 3 in December. One day a few weeks ago when I got home from work, he had been in the crate. He's never peed in the house, not even marked. I suspected he'd had a seizure. That's 3 seizures in about a month that I know of His bloodwork all came back normal for his neuter. I'll let my group know and see about doing a T4 and Tick panel. I was calm and kinda knew what to do. I've talked to Judy about seizures (after Passion had her seizure) and Thunders was not a bad as Passions. Right now he's laying in my bed and has finally stopped panting. update 8/10------------- The vet said he's healthy and normal so the dx is idiopathic epilepsy. She said I can either give him phenobarb or zonisamide. The zoni has less side affects although more expensive but no bloodwork needed like with the phenobarb. I decided to go with the zoni and just now gave him the first dose. He pills great Everyone loved him at the clinic and said he was a good boy. Edited to add- I took everyones advice and took him to a neuro vet. She did not know greyhounds at all. I asked for a thyroid test and tick panel. She wouldn't do either. She did agree to do a snap TBD test but that only checks 3 TBD so she said she would give me a script for doxi.
  18. There are already threads about this recall- FYI...
  19. Sounds like a seizure, poor baby can you put some towels under her front and back end and carry her that way?
  20. Were you able to just kind of ignore it? Right now, we live in a detached duplex, so I've never gotten complaints from the neighbors (only 1 roommate, who is moving out). Next year I'll probably be in a SFH with one of my current roommates and her puppy, so again, it probably won't be a big deal. However, after that I might end up in an apartment or something similar (though I'd really love a SFH with a fenced in yard...swoon...) and I just don't want there to be issues with his noise. And maybe he'll get a little better about it as I leave him more often, too. When I first brought her home, she whined all the time. She yowled loudly when left alone (that's when I got the notes).Fast forward 7 years and she pretty much only whines out in public Last month she started phenobarbital and has started whining more. She's been whining off and on during the night. I have no idea what her problem is but I suspect she's hungry. I've started giving her a snack before bed. Do I ignore it? Pretty much but it's really annoying
  21. I get a lot of comments about Passion's whining- people think she's in distress. If they do say anything to me, I explain that she's a talker. When I lived in a townhouse, I got notes on my door. Barking is one thing that I just can't stand. I'm lucky that none of mine are bad barkers unless someone walks past the house. In that case, I encourage them to bark Have you tried a squirt bottle?
