Glad Lila's feeling ok! Also glad the lady covered the vet fees. And she darn well better feel 'horrible'. So this dog was just let loose...out the front door onto the street?? Or it was loose in their back yard and somehow escaped? It still should be reported to 'someone'. How about a pair of those disposable pants for toddlers...the kind that boys wear when they go on a sleepover? "Goodnights" I think they're called. My 3 yr old Grandson wears them to bed...I'm sure they come in larger sizes. You could cut a hole for her tail.

I have to agree with this. Our last Dobe was a 'chewer'...especially cotton items...towels, blankets, stuffing, etc. We were as vigilant as any two normal humans could be, but she was hospitalized twice in her life...both times with fibre obstructions. First time it passed on it's own after 3 days on IV fluids. The second time she did not survive....the impaction was not moving at all after 24 hours, and surgery was not an option with her extreme VWD. I think I'll be asking my vet her opinion on the cotton ball 'trick'.

So sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl. Remember the good times.....

Ask your vet...or contact all the vets in your area to see if they have any Greyhound clients. That is how I found Nixon's Greyt playmates.

Sounds like he's well on the way to being called 'cat safe'. Probably a 'plus' for him, is the fact that your cats are already used to having dogs living in the house with them. This, combined with the fact that he had cats in his Foster Home, is going to hel a lot. We'll look for more updates as the weekend goes on.....

One of our Dobes ate half a cooked chicken once. Of course I freaked out... but she was perfectly fine.

Oh NO!!!! Poor Lila. Hope she heals up quickly. Glad the other owners are at least going to pay the vet bills. Hope you locate her tags...guess they'll have to buy her new ones, won't they!?!? And your Mom!! How awful for her. We'll check in for a update later.... Nancy

Rest well, sweet old dog. Rest well. We lost our 14 yr old GSD this summer....very peaceful, but it is not any easier just because they're old & ready to go

Stop the bleeding by sticking the nail into a bar of soap. I only ever used the cutter for one dog, and that was our PointerX, Bandit...she stood perfectly still...but loved to eat the little clippings from the floor. I've always used a mini dremel on the Dobes, GSD and the Greyhounds. It's battery powered and light weight. The key is to keep the battery well charged, and don't let the sandpaper get worn down. Nixon starts the GSOD as soon as I approach him with it, and I've never ever hit the quick. He just likes to hear himself scream. Once I start trimming, he usually shuts up and is very good about it.

I supplement with a good joint mixture, as well as fish oil capsules. We started doing this when BillieJean ...our GSD ...was about 7 years old and have just done it with every dog we've had. Billie Jean did not develop any hip issues until she was about 12 ....and she was 14 1/2 when she went to the Bridge this past summer and still managed fairly well. Was this due to her getting good supplements? Of course we don't know, but I'm not willing to take a chance....

Glad Jack is home and feeling better. I think everyone needs to be reminded that Jack lives in Ontario...we do not have Walgreens, Target or other such discount pharmacies. We do have Costco...hopefully the generic versions are available here. I have found --with my horses-- that it is always not easy or cheaper to get drugs shipped from the US into Canada. Most vets will write a script if you can find it cheaper on-line. But, I found the shipping charges and duty can add up pretty quickly.

We live in a very rural area and all ours buried here...6 dogs + 2 cats. One of the horses is buried way out in a back field and two other will join her when it is their time. After the first two dogs were buried there, we started a 'pet cemetery garden' and we just keep adding to it. We lost two dogs and a cat this year, so the garden continues to expand. We're lucky to have the space to be able to do this.... and we are never, ever moving from our farm. I have small rocks painted with each pets name, that goes in the garden near 'their spot'. A dear friend of mine passed away this fall & I planted a cedar tree in her memory and she also has a small painted rock. I find it comforting to maintain that garden....but usually I'm balling my eyes out at the same time. Here's a small corner of it from last spring when the tuplis were up... Oh...I believe your vet will look after arranging for cremation if that is your choice

Nixon was very good for us...he also just stood quiety with this foot in a shallow basin.

Leaky eyes here, too. We lost two senior dogs since July and have Grandkids age 3 and 5...

No martingales in the house! And do not leave the leash on unless you are with the dog. Use a piece of stout string that will break easily if it gets caught. My guys wear a thin tag collar in the house. They lay farther down the neck, at the base. Nixon's is a very thin braided leather one from Long Dog Leather....nothing to attach a leash to. Ruby often needs to be 'controlled' in the house, so her house collar is just an ordinary thin buckle collar...it will come off over her head, but we can grab it if we need to and it has a ring to attach a leash to.

Ruby lifts her leg to pee if it's a spot she wants to mark, otherwise she squats. She can get that leg quite high. She and Nixon pee on each other, too.
