  1. 2Hounds no-pull harness {look up the harness poll thread, for expanded comments about 2hounds from me} BUT they have fantastic customer service. I don't use it unless I am afraid of Conrad freaking out. When we are out and about I use the dogids leash. It has a ring in the handle strap and they have a small belt strap to clip to the handle of the leash so EVEN if the little booger pulls the leash out of my hand, he is still attached. he did well at Solvang even when the big work horses walked by {they have a horse drawn trolly that goes around town.
  2. argh matey welcome aboard. I just LOVE the Velcro [{TM} brand] greyhounds stories My DW allowed me several weeks of ONLY time with Conrad and I only have to turn on my wheelie chair and he is good to go. and he also follows me EVERYWHERE.
  3. welcome from the left coast. ah... North Texas, or as others call it Baja Oklahoma Okay my dear old dad was an Okie and grand dad was a TEXAN so I am kinda a resident of both pictures soon okay?
  4. I like the idea of moving the crate, and when my DW is not looking leave the door open for him My DW is afraid sleeping outside the crate will make him not go into the crate when we leave the house for awhile, like church
  5. Since Conrad came home he has slept {well at night} in his crate. lately he has whined after being put to bed. It was the worst if he did NOT get to lay in my bedroom for a time. It has gotten worse to the point, last night he complained pretty much all night. My DW is afraid to allow him to sleep in the bedroom with me and cat #2 because Conrad does have a startle reflex if we wake him from a sound sleep. For various reasons, I am on a c-pap machine, and I use the headboard when I get up to pee etc. banging her in the head so...she sleeps in the back bedroom with cat #1 who is given the whole house to roam at night. { cat #1 Amelie and cat #2 Button do NOT get along} I do not know if Amelie is bugging him, but she does wander some at night. Anybody have this type of issue, and a solution? My answer is let him sleep in my room on the floor. Button sleeps on the bed with me. I would have him on the bed WITH me but the guy just won't jump
  6. My grey, Queen slept on the same bed with me and Button, our youngest cat. The other 2 cats would get a polite sniff BUT outdoor cats, she was off. Now my indoor cats HATE the outdoor cats that are on the other side of the windows or sliding glass doors, so Queen was their hero. Conrad our current grey still sleeps in his crate, but the cats greet in the usual manner, and when he is in his bed they will come up and sniff him. Outdoor cats, I don't know if he wants to chase or just greet BUT the outdoor cats seem to be real scarce as he does start the morning outside with a nice ROO
  7. and welcome from the OTHER coast
  8. Have you looked at potential greys yet? I bet they have one that will perfectly fit your needs and wants...
  9. Hello Catch we must SEE Catch it is da Conrad says Hi from the left coast
  10. we had three cats when we got Queen, called cat safe { I watched her ignore the cat they use for testing} and She did the "greet in the usual manner} but never had a real interest. She and my youngest cat slept on my bed with me {DW sleeps in another bedroom as I wake her too often AND she sleeps with the oldest cat} After Queen went to the Bridge, we adopted Conrad also came cat friendly and he too, just lives and lets live. Our boy cat died, but before he did he would wait until Conrad left his bed for the bedroom and he would roll all over his bed, he would do the same thing in the bedroom when Conrad was not in it....Conrad will NOT get up on the bed so he stays in a dog bed on the floor until time for bed when I am in the bedroom. I would say let'em mingle and ANY time my dog barks, I take it as a warning they are sensing something I did not recognize as needing a warning Finally, welcome put your feet up and stay awhile
  11. and it looks like the 6 month gotcha day is here or soon. Where in Orange County, beach cities, far south, north? Conrad and I are in Diamond Bar just over the line
  12. welcome from the black boy club
  13. Every time I see this topic I want to say, 2 seasons, handful of races, no wins, thanks for asking...
  14. once totally healed PEOPLE can do most everything. {worked with orthopedic surgeons pretty much my whole life } My concern with your greyhound is how much stress was on the leg when it broke, freak accident, or will Wasabi have issues from some underlying issue. Obviously the vet is the go to, but having watched some videos here, the concern I would have is in the jumping portion.
  15. when I leave, my DW OR DS put Conrad out of a potty break and I slip out. As soon as I transfer from my manual indoor chair to my powered wheelie chair he is ready to go. Once he is sure nobody is gonna let him out of his crate he settles down. BUT as soon as my key hits the door, up comes the whining, he either shoots straight to his bed OR prances around my chair so I will take him outside. We stay out for several hours in the morning and afternoon. Ain't Southern California grand... We do live in a house and are on a hill with no neighbors to bother
  16. my greyhounds get the spa special at Petsmart, nails, ears, teeth and an oatmeal bath
  17. thanks for the leaky eyes just before I take my sweet boy out for our morning romp. Run free Mohican
  18. My first greyhound, Queen was never interested. I bought a BUCKET of used tennis balls and she would chase them until they stopped rolling and would just walk away. LIVE animals she would chase. We have both tree and ground squirrels and rabbits that show up along with some Ferrel cats. she made the tree squirrels REAL unhappy. Conrad started out the same way, but I kept teasing him with the stuffies and he started showing interest. Now our mornings consist of our morning ROO, then he does is business followed by morning nap interspersed with charging the fence. When he is ready to chase balls, he comes over to my bucket and patiently stands next to me until I throw him a ball. I also throw an outdoor stuffy when he has charged the fence and scared another squirrel right out of his pine nuts
  19. My greyhounds came cat tested, still I would suggest a cat tower to give the cat a safe haven
  20. They REALLY roll out the greyt carpet for us. Most of the businesses allow the greys in their businesses. Governor Brown just signed a law that allows the dogs to go through a restaurant to patio seating. They have been doing that for years in Solvang, at least during Solvang greyhound fest. that roach picture is one HAPPY pup. Conrad won't even TRY to get up on the bed, silly boy. We need to get together sometime so Coe and Conrad can say HI!
  21. well if you REALLY want to meet Bean, come to Solvang I bet Steve will be there again this year...I plan on seeing Bean then
  22. NO! they do a MAX of one year, Coe was in their kennel waiting for adoptive parents for 2 years. My Conrad, being a black and very docile greyhound, was at Hemopet for a tad longer BUT they do not use them as donors for the whole time. Dr Dobbs was, IIRC, the first to really do the donor program. I know some out there will do it until they blow out the veins. Once the greyhound has been in the donor process, they move to the outside kennels {the main building has a HUGE room for donors and those that arrive needing other medical care, like broken limbs. I presume they also have those being spayed an neutered in there. Once they are healthy and ready they move to the outside kennels. These are 6 {I think} buildings, each with a run that is covered. They also have staff and others come and take the greys out for walks in the grass etc. I have adopted two FANTASTIC greyhounds from Hemopet Both have been very cat friendly as is Coe. I am in a wheelie chair and have small grand kids so my DW insisted on a calmer pup and Betty being the greyhound whisperer that she is, set me up with Conrad, I never even got to LOOK at Coe. We looked at one that freaked out with my wheelie chair and the other was VERY active. I think she spent as much time on the couch with the helpers, she is a great girl but to active for us. Conrad was also, like Queen, walking well with my chair from the beginning.
  23. oh I LOVE your sig picture. Funny Betty never even showed us COE, but then again I do think she is a greyhound Yenta. My Conrad is changing almost daily, all for the better. He still grabs the stuffy or tennis ball play bows romps a bit, takes it under the GREYHOUND TREE {where he and our beloved Queen dig holes and lay in the shade. How is Coe doing with cats? and back to the subject at hand, One of the first things I read about greyhounds retired racers, is it not good to startle them awake. Because they have lived in kennels, it is difficult to surprise them awake, so in the quiet environment startling them can freak them out. Unless it was a total measured attack I would, ignore it, just like our CATS that scratch and bite all the time...
