My vet said 40mg for my 85 pound grey. I hope she feels better soon.

I wouldn't let him near any open flames, otherwise I have no advise. I hope he's ok.

We went to the vet today for a checkup and shots. Bu now weighs 85.5 pounds!! I had a lot of trouble getting him to gain weight and at one point he was down to 68#. I am so happy! He could even stand to gain a few more pounds, but I'm happy if he stays where he is. This is the link that tells about the issues Bu had. linky

I don't have advice about the Jupiter situation. As for the poop gaurd, you can just put duct tape over the front of the muzzle and you are all set. I hope everyone heals up well.

I'm a pet sitter in CT. I don't have any vet tech training, but if you're willing to teach me what needs to happen, I'm happy to do it. I've had a few people teach me to give their animals insulin shots. I'm only saying this, because it may be worth calling some pet sitters and see if they are willing to learn and do it. I would also want someone to sleep over, esp with a special needs dog.

I have, but I have always been in reach of the dog. Mainly to the chair I'm sitting in or the someone elses chair if it's more in a corner. If I so much as need to go to the bathroom, either he goes with me, or someone sits in my chair. I wouldn't use a long leash. I've done it while at a family reunion and while eating at outdoor cafes. Other than that, I don't see any reasons to tie them up.

I personally wouldn't want the dog to gain more than 3 or 4 pounds a week. I would prefer anywhere from 2-3 pounds a week. This is what I would prefer, but I'm not a vet. You should ask your vet his opinion. I would also make sure the dog is under the supervision of the vet, because there can be other issues associated with malnutrition. I hope your guy gets strong soon.

How old is she? Does she sound a bit like Darth Vador? It could be the heat. Her larynx could also be becoming paralyzed. I would bring her to the vet if you are concerned.

I don't have a lot of seizure experience, but I've seen 2 while petsitting. I try to stay as calm as possible and I bear hug the dog 1. to comfort the dog and 2. to keep the dog from falling or thrashing too much and getting hurt. I also talk softly and calmly to the dog, just praising the dog to let it know I'm there and it's not misbehaving and to try to keep him calmer. A bonus of the bear hug, is that it's makes it relatively easy to ward off other dogs. I would definately call your vet first thing in the morning and make an appointment. I really hope Rainey does OK and feels better soon. I also hope you do OK. You will get through this.

I agree with above. I would also muzzle the pup with poop gaurd to keep her from licking the bandage. If you don't have a poop gaurd, use duct tape. I hope she feels better soon.

Bu free feeds so his eating schedule is not at all related to his walk schedule. When we wake up (anywhee from 8-noon) I take him out and he poops then pees. He always gets walked at bedtime and he pees and poops. Depending on our schedule, depends on how often he goes out. If it's a lazy day in, sometimes, he only goes out those 2 times, but he will tell me if he needs to go out again. Usually though, I take him out 1-2 more times and he pees and sometimes poops. Of course, I'm a dog walker and the days he goes to work with me, he can get walked over 10 times and goes to the bathroom almost every time. We don't have a yard, so unless we are at a clients with a fenced in yard, Bu is always walked.

I have no idea what they recommend for dogs, but I know my doctor said I could 600mg 3 times a day. So, I imagine 600 would OK for a dog. Honestly though, I'd ask my vet.

I would have them meet in the road and take them for a walk together and at the end of the walk have them enter the walk together. For the next few weeks that's how I would do it. I'm a pet sitter and this is how I introduce my grey to dogs that can be a bit territorial and we've never had a problem. We do it this way until the other dog doesn't think twice about Bu coming into its yard or home.

How big is the area? Bu had a tiny spot that sounds similar. He had it for months and I finally had the vet remove it surgically. I totally forgot what it was called though. It was benign and never bothered him. It looked like a little cut that kept scabbing over and the scab kept falling off. If you pm me, ill call my vet on Monday to get the name of it.

I think 50 ft. is WAY too long. I have used a 20 ft. leash with a harness (NEVER a collar) for us to be able to play in brooks and ponds and such. That way we can both go in the water without making the other go in. I never walked trails and stuff with a long lead, because he is so good on leash I don't feel we need it. Plus, with a long leash it's easier for the dog to wrap around trees and such and that would get aggravating. If you use a long leash with a collar, and the dog takes off at a decent speed, it can really hurt the dog.

That's hilarious! The pup doesn't look any the worse for wear, so I think it's OK. Not normal, but OK.

Bu came to me at 70#. He went up to 75# then down to 68#. He is now up to 83# and could probably gain another pound or 2. Bu has a very sensitive belly and high metabolism, so it was very hard for him to gain weight and we thought he had other issues. So, yea, Bu gained a lot.

A spoonful or 2 of tuna or another stinky fish will bring on the appetite as well.

Is she bleeding badly, or just a bit? If it's just a bit, find a 24 hour pharmacy and get something to clean the wounds and some rolls of sticky wound wrap and some gauze. Clean the wounds, put some gauze over them, then wrap the bandages around her foot and leg. Put her muzzle on so she doesn't take the bandages off and pour yourself a big glass of wine.

Revolution. It's a topical solution like frontline. I also use it on my cats. Before I got my grey I had 2 cats and found 2 cats on the side of the road and they brought fleas with them. I put the revolution on my first 2 cats and saw the vet the next day and he said I didn't need to worry, that the revolution would take care of things. After a day or 2, I never saw another flea. Ask your vet about it.

Before we knew grapes were poisonous to dogs, our standard poodle had grapes all the time. They were one of his favorite foods. He lived to 15 years old. Now that I know they are poisonous, I wouldn't risk giving them to my dog. That said, if he gets a grape or 2, I would watch him carefully, but I wouldn't panic.
