  1. Happy Birthday Desi! Glad you got home to celebrate! Feel better soon, buddy,
  2. Rocket has held it in excess of 18 hours because he was just being stubborn. Nothing surprises me any more.
  3. When walking a greyhound I keep the "death grip" on the leash handle. Just by habit now, i take up any slack in the leash instead of letting it hang. I only release it when it's okay for Rocket to explore further, sniff or go off the sidewalk. As soon as he;s done, I take the slack back. Your leash should be a maximum of 6 feet, but there are many here who prefer a 4 or 5 foot leash for control. You might try a shorter leash if it continues to be a problem.
  4. That was a beautiful tribute for your sweet girl. Run free, Aquitaine.
  5. Do you have any ragweed or other large clusters of grass / weeds where you live? Rocket had serious issues with ragweed when we lived in Illinois from July through the first frost every year. He ended up being on Chlor-Trimeton, an anti-itch spray, and also had some steroids to try and combat the itching. Baths with an anti-itch shampoo also helped, but not too often as frequent bathing can dry out the skin and make it worse.
  6. I'll second worms. Based on similar symptoms in both dogs, and the fact that they are fairly recent off the track. It's not unusual at all to have worms show after adopting, even though many groups give a de-wormer right off the hauler. It often takes multiple tries to get rid of them completely. There have been several times that we suspected worms and had a negative fecal. We treated for worms with Panacur, and the issue went away. The only thing a negative fecal really means is that the stool that was tested didn't have any. It doesn't mean they aren't there. The only other thing I can think of is gas pains, but if you aren't hearing some squealing from the belly, it most likely isn't gas. If you suspect gas, you can try giving 1 regular Gas-X tablet (not the kind with extra antacids etc.)
  7. Was the carpet treated with Scotchgard? I'm betting allergic reaction to Scotchgard or similar type carpet treatment.
  8. Even though they may know each other, do another introduction outside and then let both dogs enter the house at the same time. Remember, this is another dog coming into your dog's space. Until you know how your dog reacts to that, outside intros put things on a more even footing.
  9. Could she be cold? Just a thought. Even with the AC on or cooler nights, she may be at an age where she gets cold easier. Try some PJ's and see if it helps. It may not, but it was sort of my first thought when you described her actions.
  10. How long after the meal did you give it? I had the same issue with Trifexis the first time I gave it. . With Trifexis, you actually have to give it with the meal, like right in the middle of eating. Comfortis may need to be given the same way if the dog has this reaction. I never had another problem with the Trifexis coming back up after giving it during the meal instead of afterward.
  11. Make sure to leave the radio or TV on as well. A little background noise goes a long way to help avoid distractions from outside noises like truck or work going on in the neighborhood that she will be curious about, and at this point may be a new noise that scares her. You definitely need to do "Alone Training." The thread that was linked to will have good information, and you can also search that term using the search function on here for tons of results. Good luck.
  12. Sounds like a great report, Morty! At 10, you're allowed to be a little picky... Tell your Mom that nightly vanilla ice cream will help pack on the pounds.....
  13. Rocket does okay with them, but I supervise the whole time. I usually have them cut to about a 2-3 inch size when I buy them. I don't re-use them once empty because they tend to splinter once they start drying out. There are many people who will tell you that bones are dangerous and can cause broken teeth. In our case, Rocket is pretty gentle with them and just works the marrow out. If he had a tendency to chomp down on the bone i may not give them, but he doesn't chew the bone portion, just works the marrow out.
