  1. Might be a food allergy. I started giving Rainy vitamin E after she had a reaction to our flea genocide. I bought the pills and the oil to put on her itchy spot topically. Give her 400mg a day with her food. She's 70lbs. Within a week we noticed her skin didn't smell anymore and she was less scaley. Is the pups skin red or flakey?
  2. cornstarch or flour is you don't have any quick stop powder. Your pup will live.
  3. Day #3! I almost forgot since I didn't do it before suppertime, but just got off my butt to use the cordless dremel on both girls. Did Rainy on Hubby's side of the bed... Shhh..... Little nail dust never hurt anyone. Sunshine never budget from her dog bed. I usually have to leash her and corral her against the furniture or in the bathroom. Good pup never even pulled her paws away while sleeping on the dogbed. Of course both dogs dashed to the kitchen for cookies afterward. Who has who trained? the purpose of the dew claw is to get caught on things so the dog can bleed allover your house I am about to leave to take the dogs to AAGI's nail trim day and let someone else do it Whenever I have someone else do their nails I'm always disappointed with the length. I think Rainy's quicks grow abnormally quickly. Her nails grow faster than I can dremel if I do it once a week. You can always just treat with leftovers in the fridge if he's not picky. Would the Look At That training possibly work for an extremely fearful dog?
  4. I don't take a lot off each time. Just a quick swipe with each nail. Rainy's nails grow super fast and I'm trying to get Sunshine's a lot shorter. She's not a fan of dremeling yet.
  5. It seems like lots of people have a hard time keeping their pup's nails short. Myself included! I just plain forget to... I was considering training Sunshine Aka Piggie to recall to suuuueyyy, but figured this would be more productive. I am happy to say that I have dremeled both girls' nails for two days in a row now. I've been doing them right before I make their supper so I don't forget. Anyone else want to join in in daily reminders? We can make up a "No broken toe" song!
  6. Vaccines last lots longer than the vets want you to believe. I wouldn;t vaccinate and would find another grey/dog savvy home to keep her while on vacation. I'm not big on kennels for vacation anyways.
  7. Sunshine gets cold very easy while Rainy gets hot in an instant. I always figured Rainy had some type of heat stroke related issue while racing which makes her more prone to it now. That's total speculation though sunshine wants a coat in 70 degrees while Rainy just stops panting at that temp.
  8. Peroxide 2-3 tablespoons down the throat. Do it outside results are immediate.
  9. Sounds almost like what we were going through with the poop before we switched to raw. The tiredness would worry me though. let us know how it goes.
  10. That kennel needs to pay. Time to get all Mean Momma Bear on them. This is why I have such a hard time trusting my dogs with anyone else and will never use a kennel unless in an emergency situation. I hope your little girl feels better soon.
  11. Thanks! I've been researching it today, but wanted to make sure it wasn't going to hurt the greys. I just gave her the first dose. Should maybe kick in by the time the last potty walk comes.
  12. I was reading how some dogs react well with using melatonin for anxiety/fear. Has anyone ever used this on a grey? Would it be the same dosage as other dogs? The ones I have for humans are 3mg pills. Maybe this would be a better option than Prozac? The Readers Digest version is that we are having issues getting Sunshine to relax enough outside to potty.
  13. First of all BREATHE and go get an adult drink! If your pup isn't showing any signs of pain or being bothered by the bandage on his tail, I wouldn't worry. I would schedule the bandage removal app with YOUR vet (the trusted one) I'm assuming your pups is eating normally and has his normal disposition? I'm a freakaziod worrier too, so I understand!
  14. Your lucky, I asked my vet how much it was during our last app and was told $26! I will do them myself!
  15. I would just chug a little down there 2-3TBS. Make sure you do it outside cause results are instant!
  16. I use a baby washcloth wrapped around my finger
  17. This is actually what caused our last explosive diarrhea blow out. Which finally pushed us over to the dark side of raw. We are on month 5 and not looking back! It's so funny how different each hounds belly is.
  18. How fast do these pads usually heal? I was going to try and call the vet today to get some antibiotics, but honestly.. it looks awesome! The pad appears to already be bonded back together. Just looks like a little ravine across her pad. Not oozy or irritated looking. No excess heat or swelling. Seems too quick, am I crazy? Her pad has been slathered with triple antibiotic ointment for 2 1/2 days and had her paw free and breathing for 4 hours today. She seems to not be favoring it, but I don't want to push it. I thought it was going to be a longer healing process when I first saw her slice! I was also informed today that I have been putting on her plastic baggy on wrong for walks. I had just been twisting it around and duct taping the top. DH informed me that Miss Rainy prefers 2 strips of tape. One on the bottom and one at the top. It prevents the bag from ballooning out at the bottom, which embarrasses Miss Rainy even more than necessary. Pretty good from a man that freaks out at booboos! He's never one to really help with the first aid, but he's a really good/fast 1st aid kit fetcher! Well have him doing triage soon!
  19. I wish I was that handy! LOL I'm a duct tape gal
  20. I think it varies from dog to dog. Rainy starts to pant heavily while at rest around the mid 80's. We have a high humidity here, plus are on the top floor of the apt building. If your pups start to pant heavily while at rest you can always toss them in the tub and wet them down with some mild temp water and let them dry while the air conditioning kicks in.
  21. I'm so worried about infection! I'm not little "Miss Suzy Homemaker" It just boosts our immune systems, right? Maybe I'll mop the kitchen floor today.... Maybe I'll try to leave it off while she's in her crate during the day. Thanks so much for the help! Yeah I've heard about it lots on GH forums, so I'm not too panicked. I may have to use 6 socks if this rain doesn't let up. Thanks for the tip!
