  1. Next time just go back inside quickly, plug your ears, and start signing loudly! Then 15-20 minutes later come back out and see if you can dispose of the body. It's a much quicker death for the squirrel if you don't get in the way. Otherwise it is a slow death since they probably aren't going to survive the snatch and shake. Rainy once almost caught a squirrel while on a leash (not sure what I would have done) and did catch a baby bird they DH was trying to grab and put ont eh other side of the fence. The baby bird wasn't really a prey thing. Just a "Dad your much too slow!" Chomp, spit into his hands. "Here! Glad to help" I was hopeful but the baby bird was gone within 5 minutes I would have rather she killed it all the way instead of spitting it into his hands. Oh and what wonderful neighbors to come and help!
  2. You should have let her eat her prize! :lol
  3. I think they are supposed to be clean and easy to potty train. And then there was Sunshine... 7 months in and we ares till working on it.
  4. I just held a treat on the floor until Sunshine got frustrated enough to flop down on the floor with a huge sigh. :lol Little smarty got her brain wheels turning as soon as that treat appeared. Only took one more time for it to be reliable. And the dog cannot figure out how not to be normal in public w/o being terrified, but she can learn down in a flash....
  5. If your worried about hurting the dog it won't work. DH is the same way. Too worried about hurting Sunshine so she doesn't get out of the crate for him. He jumps up and down doing a very good impression of a 6 foot cheerleader to entice her to come out. I have no time for that. Move the collar to the sensitive part of the neck and walk. Once she gets the idea that you aren't going to take her attitude, then you should just be able to put your hand on her collar and the dog will get up and stretch and move w/o a single tug. You could always pull her up and somewhere then immediately reward with a cookie to make it a bit more positive. If you clip the leash to her collar does she act any differently?
  6. :lol We get a similar reaction when we try to feed Rainy any fruit/veggies! Unless it's fried and loaded with butter....
  7. Well.... I'm a big meanie. If Sunshine won't come when I place my hand on her collar, I just hold on and go until she starts to move. She screams and we have this whole dramatic scene, but she quickly understood that becoming dead weight in a little temper tantrum won't work. I only had to pull her 2 times so I'm not yanking her around all the time. Also our tag collars are very thin, so that adds to the discomfort of being pulled on. Now quick call the SPCA on us!
  8. *cough* go raw *cough* this sounds exactly like what we went through with Rainy! Only the science diet stuff caused explosive D. That was so much fun. Day 1 of raw diet she was 90% better.
  9. We had to move the cat food here too! It was safe on the dining room table until Sunshine learned how to counter surf. Now we free feed them up on a cat tree. It goes up the the ceiling and was $40 at wally world.
  10. Is it maybe reverse sneezing? You can find videos of that on youtube. Rainy does that and a benedryl helps.
  11. She probably hurt something while being crazy. Rest right now would be best. Can you feel any heat anywhere on her? If so icing that area would be good. What a crappy thing for the vet to do.
  12. Well what doesn't kill u makes u stronger! I don't worry too much about the dust. I was nice enough to wait until DH was finished eating before I started tonight.
  13. I would check for a UTI but if its not that... Slap a belly bad on that dude! You can make a ghetto one out of a sanitary pad, towel, and duct tape much to my DH horror. Lol can't you just keep your bedroom babygated or closed so he can't make a mess on your bed? Our girl has peed on our bed 2 times now and we finally have triple layer waterproofing and tons of padding as a 'just in case' but if it was a regular thing her little fanny would lose all bedroom privileges! Does he not crate well? I saw that he doesn't Xpen well.... Does he have other dog siblings?
  14. Rainy was like that at her very first Meet and Greet about 2 months after we got her. She even snarked/lunged at her former foster sister! I was just as stressed out as you but everyone at the rescue told me to relax and everything would fall into place and it did. She eventually figured out how to meet other dogs on leashes and she can go into any Xpen with any other hound now. Your not alone and try not to stress a bit too much. Maybe she thought she was going back to the rescue and didn't want to give up her cushy spoiled new life? Just be watchful and correct her for any growling. Also try not to put her in situations where she is uncomfortable and has to growl. Watch her body language and remove her way before she gets to the defensive growly point. She'll eventually figure it out and get that you are there to protect her and she doesn't have to do it herself.
  15. I'm not big on healthy visits if they need no shots... But mine are usually there at least once a uear anyway for some random bobo or issue lol
  16. Awww I hope he feels better soon. I bet he feels tons better after the pressure was released. But.... OMG! I want one I want one!!!
  17. Whenever Sunshine guards a bone or chewy from Rainy, I take the bone away from her and make Sunshine exit the room. I don't lead her out but body block and tell her verbally to get out, so she has to walk out on her own. Banishment and losing the wonderful yummy thing has seemed to work so far. I don't have a really hard case though so I have no clue if I doing things the right way. Also wanted to add that if Rainy was looking at or trying to grab Sunshine's bone they would both get in trouble. Usually Rainy is chewing her own thing at the other side of the room and Sunshine is just looking at her growling. LOL Make sure that pug isn't trying to steal the stuff out from under the greys nose...
  18. Don't go to the dog park! I NEVER run my girls with smaller dogs and am always very careful if we do have other dogs there. If they running gets too intense I stop it immediately. If you don't have the ability to stop it then your a danger to all other dogs out there. Usually we only run with other greyhounds with muzzles since we go at dawn, sometimes my girls run with my parent's dogs. But I personally know all the dogs and know how they will react in most situations. You should have left when you couldn't control your dog, not the other dog owner. Greys are bred to run aggressively. They need that competitive drive to win races. Most do not do well running with other dogs. He's only doing what he his DNA is telling him and your very lucky he didn't kill that smaller dog. If your dog needs to run take him to the dog park when it is empty (usually 6:30-7am) and toss some balls for him to chase. You have to be very very careful at dog parks as they are very dangerous places...
  19. I would muzzle/leash whenever anyone is over and have the stranger toss some treats towards him. Not hand feed him but keep the positive re enforcement at a distance.
  20. Rainy used to do this when we first got her. At her first Meet and Greet she lunged and tried to bite a previous foster sister! She also wanted to eat rude little dogs that we met. I was really worried about it, but in a few more months she was feeling secure and was much more polite when greeting other pups. I now can trust her to meet even the rude dogs, although she will growl and try to teach them manners. LOL She is much more tolerant to the other dogs that want to play rough and she will playbow and try to zip around in tight little circles on her leash. It's awful cute! When she does this I just remind her that we are not at the dog park and to gt over here goofy girl! I don't stress out about it too much. She still postures a bit at first when we meet a high energy dog, but she feels secure enough not to growl. Just try to make sure they meet butt to face so she sniffs first. And don't let rude little dogs jump up at his face! It might just take time for him to learn that other pups aren't a threat on leash. But just make sure you don't make him deal with rude pups until he is 100% better! Rainy has gotten so reliable that we have been using her to help a dog reactive little jack russel that lives in the same complex as we do. Rainy gives no reaction which puzzles the little dog...
  21. Does he really have to potty? or is he just bored? Squirt bottle worked for bored Miss Rainy. I don;t even have to use it just sleep huggin it.
  22. I would bet it's too cold to want to go pee at 9 again! our girls will go through phases where they get mad at us if we aren't in the bedroom by 8pm. if you have a baby he might just want some quiet alone time. I would take it as a good sign!
  23. Just go slow! Toss some yummy treats up and down the hallway to get her to come out there on her own, etc I'm even considering making Sunshine eat in our hallway to see if that will help her recent escalating fear. Molly will be fine just don't baby her and keep the positive reinforcement up.
  24. Sounds like your doing awesome! Maybe when your stuck in one place try walking her in a circle or in the opposite direction until she switches her focus back on you? Sounds like she will improve with time and is very food motivated . Your going to have to work hard to get your end goal since not very many dogs will ignore a charging off leash snack. I've been known to kick at little suicidal yappy snacks so they don't make it to my hounds. Keep that in mind also that you are there to protect her. Most small dogs we find are not friendly.
  25. Ahahahahaha what a stupid friend and Ninja was very civilized. . My parents swiss mountain dog mix got labeled as a fear biter after the neighbor suddenly tried to hug him from above... Poor scared confused dog had only been 'home' for about a month and had bad experiences with male teens in the past. He showed up with cig burns on his muzzle and a sever distrust for any males especially teenagers. He even bit my brother a bunch of times. Dog gladly ripes open the kids stomach and now years later kid and dog are friends but kid sure know how to act around strange 120lb dogs.
