  1. All I have is my phone but we'll try. Just had our second basic obedience class. Clarice is doing really well I had posted a separate thread about her rocking her first homework assignments We're working on sit-stays right now and she does pretty well but is so excited by food that she sometimes forgets she gets the food if she DOESN'T move. We're also working on heel position and training ME on how to get her to sit where I want her She will sit next to me but she backs up a couple of steps first, so she's too far back. Need to train ME to remember to lure her more forward than some others have to.
  2. I have not used it specifically for SA but the DAP collar has been a sanity saver for us with Clarice's anxiety around other dogs. Definitely worth a try. I saw a difference in her within days.
  3. We started basic obedience with Clarice last week. She works for her kibble every evening - I use her food as her training treats! If we are learning something new I use small pieces of hot dog to teach her the behavior. When we are practicing things we've learned, she trains for her kibble I agree your husband needs to provide him with the things he needs. My parents' girl was afraid of my dad, so, Dad is the one that walked her. She loved walks, so, he was quickly an okay guy
  4. Well said, Wendy Adding my support for Jaynie
  5. He ate dinner tonight and has kept it down...his temp is good but I can tell he's still not feeling super awesome yet. That's okay - need to give the antibiotics time to work their magic
  6. I know now to keep an eye on those things just like I do for my little guys - they both need to have things cleaned really well from time to time. Ah, the joy of boys
  7. TBD tests were negative Urinalysis was fine but a little dilute - he's been drinking more water trying to battle his temperature. His temp at the vet was a little high for him (usually when we are there he is around 101.3 and today he was at 102 - not a BIG difference but he still felt warm to me). CBC showed just SLIGHTLY elevated white count - everything else looked fine on his chem panel, lipase was totally normal. Physical exam told us the story - he had some really nasty smegma crud and she looked at it on a slide and said HOLY BACTERIA. When she had done a rectal exam, he jumped a little bit - his urethra is inflamed. Poor buddy. They flushed everything out. Makes me wonder how long that has been festering in there. He's not been doing any intense licking, in fact I very rarely see him grooming his boy parts at all (which, I suppose, might actually be the CAUSE of this). So, he's fine, relatively speaking. He's on Zeniquin, recheck in 2 weeks. He's snoozing on the couch. I came back to the office for a while because I am SWAMPED with work. I'm SO thankful that he doesn't have leukemia - although, if he did, we'd know how to handle it. We just have to keep rolling with the punches. Thank you everyone
  8. I'm a little bit worried because now that I'm thinking about it more...there were a couple of times last week in the evenings when there was just something a TINY bit "off" about him. Like he was feeling a little under the weather. But we'd go to bed and he'd wake up his springy bouncy self. He has always eaten his meals and his poop has looked fine. But I'm wondering now if that's when he started coming down with whatever this is. I'm worried because this is what Ace acted like when she was diagnosed with leukemia
  9. He slept all night - his temp went up a little more around 2am, but, he was still sleeping comfortably. I put a cool towel on him and that helped. We slept from 2-6. His temp this morning was 102.8. But he's still feeling punky. I didn't feed him breakfast but did offer him a cookie, which he took, but not with his usual gusto. He did not poop last night or this morning in spite of having eaten his dinner. He did pee A LOT last night. I believe he was drinking more to try to counter his temperature. I wrestled with what to do this morning as I had physical therapy at 7:40am. I ended up going and my mom stopped in to see him just about half an hour ago. He did poop for her - not diarrhea either, good poop. But, he normally goes BALLISTIC when she visits and today he just met her at the gate - no jumping, no tail wagging. He's definitely not himself. We have an appointment with our vet at 1 - she doesn't come in until noon and I felt that he'd be okay until then. I'd rather see her than one of the other vets at the practice. Something is definitely off - just not sure what. Could just be a bug. But I'd rather see our vet than take him to the ER too, so I feel it's best to just have her check him out. Poor punk
  10. If everything else is normal, I'd let him get back to eating his normal amount (sounds like he just started having a good appetite again?) and see where that lands you and maybe up his food a little more if his regular amount isn't enough. They do expend more energy to move in this new way. If it is feasible with your schedule to feed smaller meals 3x per day, that may help too if you need to be giving him more food. Some of them will get upset tummies from more food + hopping around.
  11. Gums nice and normal...good pink color Thank you for being an ear for this momma...after losing so many in the last year, I start to feel panicky when someone isn't feeling well
  12. Okay...thank you! He's just sleeping. I got him to drink some water right after I posted. He's not sleeping heavy yet but I've been moving around a lot getting ready for bed myself, and it's his job to keep an eye on me I hate that "fine line" where it wouldn't be completely nuts to take them in, but, then there's not a ton that the vet would do if you DID take them in. I'll keep an eye on him. My mommy sleep pattern will kick in tonight and I'll wake up every time he stirs.
  13. When I got home from work today Ozzie had thrown up on the rug. I caught him eating poop this morning and it looked like that's what he threw up, along with a little bit of grass. It's been very windy here and noisy all day, which has kept him from resting really well. I fed him dinner and he ate with gusto, and took a small cookie, but ate it very slowly. He's acted like he doesn't feel well, so I took his temp and it is 103.5. A little on the high side, but, IDK if this merits an e-vet visit if he is keeping his food down. I've always been a bit fuzzy on what constitutes a fever in a dog when 101 to 102something is an acceptable normal. What do you think?
  14. The other thing the OP should consider is the terms of their adoption agreement. I know that both of the groups I've signed agreements with have stipulated that I will not have them off leash unless they're in a fenced in area. I also tend to think that those who are able to do this more reliably are people who have had their greyhounds since they were puppies. Some greyhounds who have raced, there's just no way in hell they will even hear you if they're after something.
  15. We are TOTW Pacific Stream fans here One of my iggies eats the High Prairie. He wasn't doing awesome on the Pacific Stream so I just switched him over. Honestly I don't think just plain switching will be a problem, but, if you still have some of the other flavor and you buy Pacific Stream, it also won't hurt to just mix the old one in just until you finish it off
  16. Someone always sat with Sutra. The techs fought over who got to sit with him They also fought over who got to sit with Pinky for her chemo
  17. If it grows more I'd probably have it looked at, but, I wouldn't worry
  18. Likely a sebaceous cyst. Sometimes they need to be aspirated if they are in an irritating spot but otherwise no need to panic. (It's basically a big pimple so if it is poked a bunch of gross stuff will come out).
  19. My little guys like carrots! I am allergic to them so I don't buy them all that often... Clarice hasn't had any carrots yet. Perhaps next time I'm at the store... Sage likes WHOLE carrots though...no baby carrots!
  20. It IS an excellent thing to train your dog. I believe it's important. However, I personally do not have a need to let my dogs off leash to run without a fenced in area. I have access to a fenced in area that's over an acre. There's just no need for me to let them run loose when I can let them run in that secured area safely.
  21. Many of the dogs running on beaches are at dog beaches, which I believe are fenced in. It's just a very large area so the fence isn't visible. I would NEVER trust my dogs to NOT be in a fenced in area. EVER.
  22. DAP diffuser or collar would be my recommendation. I've had good results with them.
  23. They both crack me up doing "here" I can walk across the room and say "here" and hold out my hand and each of them will come barreling over! Tonight Clarice would sit even if she couldn't see the treat!
