  1. I'd have no qualms about the dental. Not sure I'd do the vaccination(s) though. All of my cancer kids were put on NO vaccinations. Ace had leukemia and we had a note from our vet so we could still lice we her with the county. I had notes for Pinky, Fritz, and Sutra as well.
  2. Nature's Domain is identical to Diamond Naturals, not to TOTW. Yes, they are manufactured by Diamond, but, my dogs cannot eat the Nature's Domain/Diamond Naturals. It seems similar but there are small differences that apparently made a BIG difference for my dogs. Their poop was YELLOW, not brown, as if they were eating a food full of corn. Runny, stinky poop, and GAS. Definitely not the same. Back to TOTW and we're good!
  3. My vet has never charged me to call my animals' prescriptions in to a regular pharmacy
  4. Kim I'm so sorry to read Casper has left us Nessa-there is nowhere around here to get radiation, so, we just did pamidronate. Sutra was on Deramaxx and tramadol. When he started to limp we started pamidronate. I think he had three or four treatments three weeks apart. There seems to be diminishing returns with each treatment and the last one didnt really do anything for him. Then his kidney values, while still okay, were slightly borderline and our vet was not comfortable continuing the treatments. We had six good months together before I had to let him go. He was such a fighter and I was so proud of him My experience with him helped me through when Pinky was diagnosed, and then when Fritz was diagnosed, and then when Carrie ended up with osteo too. Unfortunately I know wayyy too much about this and now I've been down the palliative road AND the amputation road. Neither road is easy and comes with it's own challenges. Wishing for the best for you and your girl
  5. One thing about pamidronate...many docs hold off on giving it until pain relief is needed. Giving it now isn't going to do much except tax the kidneys, unfortunately.
  6. Pamidronate is a palliative measure - it is not curative. We did it with Sutra and got good pain relief from it. Make sure it is given with LOTS of fluids as it can cause kidney issues.
  7. I called Monday evening and told them to go ahead and order it. It came in AMD I picked it up yesterday after work. $39.49. Thank goodness for the county discount card. Clarice's surgery was moved to March 3rd so she will start taking it Saturday. They want her to have it two days prior to surgery.
  8. I wouldn't recommend a baby gate if it didn't work If a dog jumps a single gate, put another one above it in the doorway!
  9. Silly as it sounds, I'm sort of "excited" for her. I'm sure once she's healed from surgery she will be much happier. She certainly does not love me chasing her around and wiping at her hoo-ha multiple times a day
  10. Heat packs, massage!, definitely try Robaxin (methocarbamol) and gabapentin. Cold laser therapy, and the fish oil Jen recommended. I used the same stuff for my old kids and it helped a lot. Was going to suggest acupuncture until you said she's not a very good candidate.
  11. That's nuts. Why isn't it available up there?
  12. We moved Clarice's surgery up to this coming Monday, March 3rd. It turns out Dr. Less is not available on the 10th and we don't want to wait until the end of the month to get this done. Amicar is in, I will pick it up tonight.
  13. My condolences to Chris...Sequoia was certainly well-loved
  14. Yep...that is the price for the generic. I have a county prescription discount card for Rosie's thyroid meds though - they were able to get it to go through so now it is $30some for 18 tabs. I'll just go ahead and fill it (the pharmacy JUST called me ).
  15. I need 18 500mg Amicar tablets. The pharmacy where I got the Amicar before for Pinky's amputation is giving me a price of $105something. I do not remember Pinky's being NEARLY that expensive. I called Walgreen's and (surprise) they were even more than that. I have used Five Star Compounding Pharmacy before so I was going to call them for a price, but, I wanted to ask here if the price of around $105 is pretty much the going rate now, or if I can get it cheaper elsewhere.
  16. Talked to my vet again this morning and she is calling in a script for Amicar for us. Two days prior to surgery and 3-4 days after. THANK YOU for reminding me about that. It is something standard for amputations so I always think to remind others in those situations, but, hadn't thought about it for this surgery. I'm so glad I posted
  17. I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh, but, looks like she actually kind of enjoyed having a makeshift pillow attached to herself at all times
  18. I have a babygate in the doorway of the kitchen so the dogs can't get in there. I have very little cupboard space so there's just no way to keep everything out of their reach other than to just keep them out of there.
  19. Thank you all so much. I put down for the Tuesday and Wednesday off so I can stay home with her if she needs it. I emailed Dr. Bahns about the Amicar yesterday so I wouldn't forget about it. Dr. Less is an amazing surgeon; an artist with a scalpel really. And Clarice is a pretty tough cookie, so, I have no doubt that we are making the right choice for her and I'm hoping she will be a good girl with her sutures
  20. Rosie kitty gets canned food after her thyroid pill twice a day. No treats after her denamarin though (empty stomach!). I have a pill gun but she is so squirmy about it, it's useless. I just pill her with my fingers...much easier for me. So far we've only had a couple of spit-outs but I'm able to retrieve the pill and get it back down there. The methimazole apparently tastes terrible so I coat it with a tiny piece of pill pocket. Goes down MUCH easier that way
  21. Wow that's interesting. I've heard of larger than normal liver but not a smaller than normal liver. Hope your sweet girl is feeling okay
  22. We use Heartgard here and Frontline for fleas and ticks. Honestly our only worry is them getting ticks when we go to my folks' house. We've never had a problem with fleas but because I do meet and greets with my dogs, I use it. Anne, I had read somewhere that if you have cats you should not use Advantix, especially if your cats lay with your dog. Wonder if they've changed the formula so that is no longer an issue?
  23. I am just curious, what antibiotics did they put her on to fight these? (Reason I asked about the snood is Clarice is going to have a vulvaplasty in a couple of weeks and if I could have her wear a nice soft snood to keep her from licking as opposed to having to wear a muzzle with a stool cup in it, I'd find a way to find her a nice thick snood! ).
