  1. Wow, poor T. Glad he's on the mend.
  2. I would not plan trips to Ohio just yet. If your vet is uncomfortable making a diagnosis with the x-ray, ask him to send it to OSU for consult. He should be perfectly willing to do it. Good luck - I'm sure it's nothing. As an aside - is there a "perfect age for cancer??" From reading GT, it can happen to any dog at any time. Not exactly comforting, but it doesn't seem to me that any particular age is the one we should be most worried about.
  3. Argos had a wound in that same general area that healed just fine, even though it was hard to keep it closed at first. Good luck
  4. Amber, I'm so so sorry. You can tell by that picture what a huge personality he had and
  5. Yup. I have several of their leashes. They break in quickly and they're good quality If by heavy, you mean heavily gorgeous, yes. Seriously, they are amazing. Bootsy gets compliments on his collars every time he's wearing one. Gorgeous, high-quality stuff.
  6. I remember when dealing with a serious abdominal injury with Argos, it felt like it was never going to heal, and everything caused me to panic, and then one day, it looked better. It was like he turned a corner overnight. And it got easier and easier after that.
  7. If you can afford doggy day care, talk to the owner about having him stay in the office and not in the main part with the pack of dogs. My sister's aussie goes to day care, and they have an old golden who stays in the office / front with them, and never goes in with the dogs. It's very cute. Just to clarify, the golden is a client, and does not belong to the day care.
  8. Our Argos was on a low dose of ace daily for a month to help keep him calm while healing from a traumatic injury. He did just fine.
  9. I used to use Revolution and Frontline - applied them about 2 weeks apart. Now I use Iverheart Max, because it's for hooks, in addition to heartworms. But Bootsy did fine on the combo, as did Argos.
  10. Well, you know I have no advice, since I don't know what BUN, creatine, p floryil, or any of those other things are, but I love you both, so here ya go
  11. I've been following along on this thread with high hopes. So very sorry to hear the outcome.
  12. Bootsy is alone every day from 8am-6pm and has never had an accident in the 3 years that we've had him. Our greyhound before Bootsy was alone the same amount of time, also with no issues. We do at least a 30 minute walk at 6am, with a quick pee break at 8am right before we leave. Then he gets walked at 6pm when we return.
  13. My Argos got these more than once. I would clean it with peroxide or diluted betadine, then use neosporin on a piece of gauze, stuff it in there, and wrap his foot for a day or two. Change the pad about once a day, more often if it got wet. Once, he did go on antibiotics for it, but otherwise, they always healed up just fine.
  14. I'm always hearing that on GT - cat outside is different from cat inside. I only have my own experience to go on, but in that limited experience, that's not true. Both of my cat-safe greyhounds were and are cat safe with cats they know and cats they don't, both indoors and out. And my other two dogs, both of whom were extremely not cat safe except with my own cat, were also safe with my cat outside. Again, only my experience.
  15. I no longer have a cat, but my current hound is extremely cat safe, including outdoor cats. Our first hound was as well. Here are a few testimonials
  16. Petra, he was beautiful. You were lucky to have each other. I'm so very sorry.

Well this thread is an unhappy surprise. What a darling girl. I'm so very sorry.
  18. I have a garbage houndie - my parents and my sister have those automatic trash cans that open when you wave your hand over it. Well, Bootsy goes straight to their cans and waves his head over them to see what goodies are hiding inside. In our old house, we had to keep the trash can in the pantry. In our new house, it's in a pull out door/drawer, which he doesn't seem interested in figuring out. He will jump on the counters after goodies, though, so the last thing we do before leaving the house is make sure all food is up and out of sight. Bootsy is 7, by the way.
  19. This thread is asking specifically about teaching recall, not off-leading. So stop trying to make it a hot button thread, please.
  20. You do live in Funky Town I'll have what Bootsy having, that's got to be some good sh*t man .
  21. Oh, I'm so very sorry. What a happy boy.
  22. I only feed my precious Bootsy grass-fed unicorn with the occasional cage-free platypus egg for a treat. Sure, it can be hard to find and it costs a lot, but I love him too much to feed him anything else.
  23. I think recall is important whether you allow your dogs to run off-lead in an unfenced area or not. Both of my hounds have had about the same level of recall - perfect almost always. I can't think of a single time Argos ignored a recall, and I can count on one hand the number of times Bootsy has. I like to think it's because of their perfect recall, but really it's only because they weren't / aren't interested in going anywhere. I am admittedly one of those lazy owners who figures it's good enough, and I should absolutely work on cementing this, for both general safety and good training and for peace of mind.
