    Jerry

I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet boy, Jerry.
  3. You are in my thoughts. I hope it's nothing more than the arthritis.
  4. Greetings and welcome from Los Angeles (California, that is!).
  5. Poor baby! And poor you, too! Sending my hopes for a good outcome...and the return of Phaelin's appetite.
  6. Poor both of you! I hope you can figure out what she's doing this on. Did she bleed all the way into the house, can you track the blood trail back at least as far as you can and scan from there?
  7. This has happened to Carl within the first week or two I've used Frontline Plus on him. I've used it twice on him (and will NEVER use it again) and each time he did it several times for a week or two and never again.
  8. Here is a link to what they do cover (Carl is on the preferred plan): PetFirst Coverage This is what they don't cover: * Pre-existing conditions * Elective procedures, cosmetic surgeries, including but not limited to tail docking, dewclaws, skin folds, nail trims, and cropping of ears * Expression or removal of anal glands or anal sacculitis * Breeding or conditions relating to breeding * Special diets, pet foods, vitamins, mineral supplements, grooming costs and bathing (including medicated baths) * Treatment of external parasites such as fleas, lice and ticks and preventable internal parasites such as heartworms, hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms and whipworms * Orthodontics, endodonctics and removal of deciduous teeth * Diagnostic test(s) and treatment(s) for conditions excluded or limited by this policy and complications of conditions excluded or limited by this policy * Time and travel expenses to the veterinarian's premises or hospital * Illness or injury which arises out of racing, coursing, commercial guarding or organized fighting of your pet * Congenital or hereditary defects or diseases * Continuous coverage of chronic and long term conditions that manifest in a previous policy year * Behavioral problems * During the first 12 calendar months in which your policy is in effect, no coverage will be extended for the diagnosis, medical management or surgical correction of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) or cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) damage or rupture.
  9. Carl's premium was $296.00 total for 12 months. I have recouped that and more in reimbursements in the 4 months I've had the insurance. He had a run in with a branch and had to have staples in two places and was recently diagnosed with Pannus. Carl's insurance is PetFirst
  10. I'm really so sorry to hear this news about your girl. I don't understand how or why lightening can strike one family so many times, 2007 was like that for me.
  11. I'm so sorry. You gave her a good life and she touched yours with her love.
  12. Carl had a gash on his front leg that looked a lot like that. I took him to the vet, they just gave him antibiotics and told me to keep it clean. The vet didn't think I should keep it covered (but I did). I don't think he gave him stitches because there wasn't enough skin to pull together...another gash on the rear flank that looked like that did get stapled together as there was enough skin to pull together. Probably antibiotics for sure.
  13. Wow, great and timely post OP! This really brought the good information out. Carl came to me with bald thighs last August, it started growing in, but not all the way. I noticed that the growth had stopped and in the last couple of weeks he seemed to be losing fur on the outside of his thighs, especially his right one (the side he sleeps on a lot). He just had a big blood panel done, so I know it's not his thyroid. I guess he's just blowing his coat and will be getting ready for winter soon (not too soon - it's hot here!). It's good to know that others are going through this, too!
  14. I'm really sorry to hear about Soul. I can't add anything in terms of knowledge about the condition, but you and Soul are in my thoughts.
  15. It sounds like maybe he really likes it, kind of like getting a massage and melting into it.
  16. I've used Plus twice with the same reaction, I won't use it again. When I used Plus on Carl he started head-bobbing, not constantly, but enough that it was notable. The first time I thought it was a fluke, the second time I realized it was the Plus. It went away after about a month and he has only done it right after I put it on him. I'm going to try just the Top Spot next, if he head-bobs again I'll never use it again. Though, I am toying with the idea of trying Springtime's Bug Off instead, it sure won't hurt.
  17. Could it be a small weed or pollen? When I walk Carl he likes to walk under bushes and often comes out with flower petals, leaves and pollen all over his head. After I clean him off I check inside his ears and a few times he's had stuff caught in them, it makes him shake his head, but I can usually can get it out of his ears. Good luck!
  18. I'm sorry for your bad news, but am relieved that he's doing better. I hope they can steer you in the right direction for medication to bring Harley back up to speed. Godspeed to you and Harley.
  19. Most of the time there is no difference. Carl's Amoxicillin & Flagyl are the same as what is prescribed for humans. When he was on Clomicalm it was $$$$, I did little research and the vet switched him to the human version, clomipramine hydrochloride, and it was $. When he needed Valium, it's exactly the same as the human version.
  20. With these symptoms you also might want to look for Cushings and keep a close watch on her eyesight. SARDs (sudden retinal degeneration syndrome) mimics Cushings then the dog suddenly loses it's eyesight (sometimes within hours). I believe Emmy of JillysFullHouse recently was diagnosed with SARDs, though I don't know if she went through the Cushings-like symptoms. Most times after that the Cushings symptoms dissipate. SARDs is not a greyhound disease, just a dog disease. 1.5 years ago my Sheila, a shiba inu/chow mix, developed the symptoms months before she lost her sight during a 4 hour car ride. There are no tests yet to predict SARDs, but there are for Cushings. All good thoughts for you and your girl.
  21. Geez, what a dreadful tragedy.
