  1. I am just reading this too, and it makes my SICK! Poor Leah, poor you. Go to court and do what you can to get the ba^%$ard. White healing light for Leah.
  2. Mary Ellen - what a beautiful slide show of Spencer. It brought me to tears. I am so sorry, its SO DAMN HARD to lose our guys.
  3. We sent Opie to the bridge on December 29. I too have not been able to post in Remembrance, as it is just too painful. If you would add his name here to the Dec 2012 list, I would appreciate it.
  4. ME - Just got caught up and read the whole story, and so sorry for what all of you had to go through last night. It breaks my heart and I have been crying while reading all this. Please know we are thinking of you, and as I said in my FB message, when you are ready, call me and we can get Shane together with Toley. {Hugs}
  5. I am just getting back to this, and I want to say we will be thinking of Spencer, and praying that everything goes well, and turns out well.
  6. What a beautiful tribute. Harold was so lucky to find you for his last years. Run free now Harold.
  7. Yes! Our new boy, Toley, has started this. I have a little basket by the table by the front door, with all sorts of things in it - hand lotion tubes, antibacterial lotion tubes, plastic bag of earplugs, stuff like that. Toley has decided to take the things out and scatter them around the living room, or place them on his bed. Yesterday he de-stuffed (and ruined) a decorative pillow I have. This was my fault because it was on the floor, and we are trying to get him to understand he has his own toys , and they are always on the floor. Opie never took anything, so this is a new behavior for me. We muzzle him whenever we leave now.
  8. I am so sorry to hear about Ben, but having just gone through this with Opie in December, I understand. We did not want to put him through any more either. And for us took when the labored breathing finally stopped, it was a relief, Run Free Ben, there are so many greyhounds for you to play with now.
  9. Going to go against the crate here - Neither of our hounds did well in the crate - Panicking and injuring themselves. Toley broke a tooth trying to get out. We finished our housebreaking by leaving him out with a belly band and muzzle. He is fine during the day now. Not all dogs like the crate.
  10. I am so very very sorry. This is truly a horrendous loss. I don't know what else to say.... its just overwhelming.
  11. I am so sorry for you and your sweet Beanie. Cancer does suck, it took our Opie too in December. You will know what is right, and when, for Beanie.
  12. So very sorry you had to lose your precious girl.
  13. I am so sorry to hear about Shane. Sounds like you are doing all that can be done right now. Obviously you have to watch him to see if there is any improvement tomorrow, which i will be praying there is. I am happy to hear he can lay down. I know its awful to see the panting and pain, and they can't settle. Opie did this his last week, and it was horrible to watch. Keep us posted on his progress, and praying that ice and pain meds do the trick.
  14. We took Opie, and now take our new boy Toley to the park every Sunday (weather permitting) to meet up with our other greyhound friends. Toley really seems to love it, runs, plays with other dogs, not only greyhounds. There are dangers everywhere, as we have read on this board sometimes just walking your dog in your own neighborhood. For us, and our whole group, we love meeting at the park, and we all watch our for all the dogs. I think the benefits for the dogs far outweigh any potential risk.
  15. Toley gets a turkey neck piece (3-4 inches) every day when we get home from work, after his walk. I get them already cut up in pieces from an ethnic grocery store around here. Other than that, he gets his regular kibble breakfast and dinner, with canned add ins, and a chunk of meatloaf that make and freeze. I will introduce him to chicken wings and feet too. Our Opie used to love those, so I'm sure Toley will too.
  16. Toley is our second greyhound, and the 2nd one to hate and get very destructive to himself in the crate. After Toley breaking a tooth to try to get out of the crate, it went in the garage to be returned to its owner that we borrowed it from. Opie, our first grey, was the same way - actually bent bars and broke out of the crate, scratching himself up. After a few bad weeks, Toley is now good in the house, and sleeps most of the day (in our bed, but oh well!). If we have workers (very rare), I have been know to leash a dog to me. Otherwise, nobody comes in our home when we are not there. The places I will be boarding Toley the dogs do not have to be in crates. I would have kept the crate if he liked it, or felt secure in it, but with his SA, it made it worse.
  17. I am so sorry to read of Daisy's passing. This thread is full of sadness. And to Berk's mom - I too know of guilt, and I have to say no matter what course you take you will always second guess yourself. We sent Opie to the Bridge on Dec. 29, just a little over a month from his rib cancer diagnosis. Not a day goes by that I don't think of - What if...... , If only I tried ........, perhaps I should have insisted on more testing,,,,,. His last 2 weeks were filled with pain, and they will haunt me forever. So I get it, I understand. But we do the best we can, with the information and resources we have available to us at the time. Looking back - well, it is painful and full of what ifs. Please just concentrate on you did the best you could. That's what I am trying to do - and to know that he is pain free now.
  18. Make sure to muzzle him if he is not in the crate. We have a new greyhound too - he hated the crate, so leave him out in a few rooms. He wears his muzzle every day when we are gone.
  19. I just got one for Toley for his SA - had him a little over 2 weeks, and he does NOT like us to leave. The 2 days with the Thundershirt on were the 1st 2 days we have had no poo or pee in the house, and he is sleeping in the bedroom when we get home. Now he may just be getting used to our schedule. I also give him Rescue Remedy, and some herbal calming cookies I got at Petsmart. But it sure seems the TS is helping with the SA.
  20. Dare I be even more excited? Day 2 in the Tundershirt - NO Poop! No Pee!! (Dry belly band!) No Babygate knocked over for the 3rd day! And again, sleeping in the bedroom! Good Boy Toley!
  21. Toley Update for Monday. We did some alone training this weekend. This AM we had to go to the vet to have his tooth looked at (referred to a dental specialist). So we came home and I gave him Rescue Remedy, 6 calming herbal biscuits (they are small), and a Thundershirt that we borrowed from our friends. Well, he was sleeping again when we came home, no baby gate disturbed to kitchen, and best of all NO Poop or Pee! Woo Hoo! Way to go Toley!
  22. Well update on yesterday's behavior. The bad first - he did pee, in his belly band, and on a pee pad (again no mess!) The good parts: NO poop! Yeah! Nothing destroyed or chewed. No pushing when I walked out the door, just watched me. He was actually SLEEPING in the bedroom when we came home! This part is huge! The fact that he was able to calm himself down, and not running from room to room looking for us the whole time we were gone. I do know he went on the bed, on the bed in the spare room,. and on the living room chair to look out the window, but this is all stuff I would expect. Also, again he did not knock over the baby gate to the kitchen, or even try to. I "think" these are all progress steps. We are doing the intense in/out alone training this weekend, while we are home, and getting a Thunder Shirt from a friend, so hopefully Monday will be even better. We are also taking him to the vet on Monday AM to have that tooth looked at. It doesn't seem to be bothering him, but it is a big chunk of tooth missing.
  23. Oh My ME, I am sorry. I know nothing about this, and I only know what about half of the medications are. But you are in my thoughts, and I hope you can find out what is causing this and what it means, and that Spencer will be fine. I was going to ask if you were going to the GPA wine tasting in Renton tomorrow, we are going around 3, and bringing Toley.
