  1. Well, Opie seems to be doing better. We have been soaking the foot twice a day, and then neosporin. He wears a sock for walkees (no fenced yard, so we leash walk), and he wants to walk, and is doing zoomies around the house with his stuffies. We can still see the hole, of course, but the pad is hardly swollen at all. I have been holding my breath to see if an infection was going to manifest, but so far so good. I will keep doing what I am doing, as it seems to be helping. Thanks again for all the advice.
  2. Oh no! I just saw this, and cannot believe it. This is just heartbraking, I am so very sorry.

    Shayla

This is so sad, so heartbreaking, so wrong - and I am so very sorry.
  4. Well, got the socks, he's not pleased. Anyways, here's a picture of the poor baby, laying on the couch, milking his injury!
  5. Thank you all so much for your quick replies - we were leaning towards treating ourselves. But I'm sure everyone here knows the panic of seeing their baby get hurt! I have the paper wrap tape here, and ointments. I will run out now and get some toddler socks at Walmart. Thanks so much, I'll try and get picture of it later when we change the bandaid. Poor baby, he is on the couch now, holding out the injured paw, with the "I'M INJURED" look!!
  6. So we took Opie for his Sunday morning get together with other greyhounds. When we got to the park, he was playing with one of the other dogs he knows very well. All of a sudden we heard the GSOD and Opie's leg appeared caught in the other dog's collar. With visions of his leg snapping I ran over to corral him, and of course the 2 dogs were snarling and snapping trying to get apart from each other (thank goodness muzzles were on). I grabbed Opie, someone else grabbed the other dog, and we saw that his foot was actually stuck on the clip that holds the tags on the tag collar - one of the smaller of those mountain climbing type of clips, not sure what you call them - AND the end of the clip was actually poking through the end of one of the pads on his foot!! My DH carefully pulled it out. It was bleeding, but not bad. I had some first aid stuff with me, and someone else ran to their car and got some wrapping tape to wrap it up with. We rinsed it off, used the antiseptic cleaner, and then wrapped it up. Amazingly, he didnt seem to be that bothered by it then, just after we wrapped it, as he didn't like that wrap thing on his leg. SOOOO, now we are home, and am wondering is this something that will heal on its own? We do have EMT gel and spray. I am about to take off the wrapping, clean again and use that, and rewrap. Does this need a trip to the vet tomorrow, EVet today, or just treatment from us??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
  7. I use Omaha Vaccine. Never a problem, and cheaper than the vet.
  8. YEAH! This is truly amazing - and always a reason to get that second opinion / test. And what a gorgeous looking boy too!
  9. Opie has done this upon occasion. Once he had something stuck in his foot, and we pulled it out when we got home. A few other times he has just sat down on the grass in the front yard when DH is taking him out for his final pee before we go to work. He loves to lay in the grass in the sun, so sometimes he thinks that now is just the right time I guess!
  10. Elizabeth, first of all, glad to hear Simon is better. Our lab mix LaTanya, the dog we had before Opie, had one of these episodes and at the time I had no idea what it was.She was probably 14 or 15 at the time. We rushed to an emergency vet (of course this happened after office hours) and that was the diagnosis. She was given some fluids, I think, and then we had the option of leaving her overnight, or taking her home, and we took her home. By the next morning she was much better, and within a day or so all the symptoms were gone. She never had another episode after that until she died at almost 17. I know how scary it it, we thought she had a stroke or something. But I am so glad to hear he is improving. Keep feeling better Simon and don't scare you mommy again!
  11. Healing chants for beautiful Poppy and that she will be home soon.

    Bailey

I am so very sorry to read this. Bailey was a absolute stunning girl, and you obviously loved her so much.
  13. Prayers for a good and treatable diagnosis.
  14. Opie is now a big couch potato. To him its just one more place to lay down. In the early months, he was growly towards me, so he lost all furniture privileges for a while. At first I didn't want him up on the sofa, didn't want dog hair, etc., so he would only go up while we were gone! Sneaky boy! So I started covering the couch when we left. But know I keep it covered all the time (unless I or DH sit there, or company is coning), and he goes up whenever he wants. We love him to bits, and life is too short to worry about dog hair.
  15. So glad to hear Jamey is doing so well. Keep it up boy!!!
  16. Another Omaha Vaccine here. Opie is on .8 twice a day - he is 95 lbs.
  17. Sending good thoughts to Riley and you, that he has some better days ahead. You WILL know when it is time.
  18. I'm so sorry to hear this. Spoil her, feed her treats, love her, as much as you can.
  19. Our vet does a 2 step process too. We had the vet come to the house, I made all the arrangements in advance. LaTanya, our Akita Lab mix was unable to get in the car anymore, and was in so much pain. We had her on her blanket in the living room, had fed her a McDonalds hamburger, and she was quiet. The first shot was the relaxer, and then the second, she was gone very soon. We held her and petted her, and then she was gone. The vet hugged us both, then quietly left. We wanted to bury LaTanya in the back yard. I am so sorry for you at this time, it is so damn hard to say goodbye.
  20. Prayers that they can resolve this issue and your girl will be feeling better soon.
  21. Thank you for sharing the video of Abby. I was laughing to myself - never seen a greyhound get the paper or mail. And she looked so happy. You gave her a wonderful life, and now you gave the ultimate gift of easing her pain.
  22. Prayers for Cheer that it will be something minor that can be fixed.
  23. So sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl Misty. Words seem so inadequate...
