  1. Prayers and white healing light for Domino coming from the PNW.
  2. Chris - I am so glad to see you on this board - I was going to suggest you come here, or I was going to ask for some advice about Ammo. There are many informed folks on this board, and you will get some excellent suggestions. We have to get your boy back to running at the playgroups.
  3. Opie has had this for a week now. Poops would seem to get better, then back to pudding mush. I have tried the rice and ground beef, Imodium, Pepto bismal, and today, after he had a normal poop yesterday, he had an explosive pile in the car while we were in the store! He NEVER does this, so I know he couldn't help it. BUT, we spent the rest of the day cleaning the car out, washing all the blankets and covers that he got poop on. We even had to wash him. It was horrible. Anyways, I called the vet, cuz figured this had gone on long enough. He now has Flagel (????) for 5 days, and back to a bland diet. Sigh, Opie has a cast iron stomach, so this is rare for him to have this for so long.
  4. My heart is breaking for you .....
  5. No hard fast rule - depends on the dog. I was very concerned getting Opie that he would be unhappy being an only dog, since he lived with others in his foster home. But he is a pushy big boy, demanding of attention, and he has settled in beautifully being an only dog. He does not have SA, of course a bit at first, like all new dogs. But as soon as we did away with his crate (like the first week!) he was fine. My concesssion to him was to let him sleep on the couch. I originally didn't want animals on the couch (silly me, didn't know the joys of cuddling with a greyhound!), but since he is such a good boy when he is alone I just cover the couch with a flannel sheet. Opie gets lots of stimulation - we play with him, he goes on long walks each day, and to the dog park at least once a week. We take him everywhere, even just to go to the store for a ride. And yes, we do work, but usually are not gone for longer than 8 hours, usually less. DH is also in a band, so oftentimes on weekends we will be gone on a weekend night. So if you are matched with the right dog, should be no problem.
  6. Prayers that Timber has many more good days yet to come.
  7. I have a friend whose hound had his toe amputated, and he is at our dog park every week for our greyhound get together, and he runs with the best of them.
  8. Soloxine is a brand name prescription,. If you want that one, order that one, not the generic. I get mine from Omaha Vaccine.
  9. This is SO scary! Glad Aim is ok. Yes, new vet for sure.
  10. My vet recommended no vaccines for our old lab, after age 13 or 14 I think.
  11. Be strong for Juneau - I know how hard a decision this is, been there. My heart too is breaking for you.
  12. So frustrating when you don't know what is causing this. Poor baby, hope he feels better.
  13. Hooray for good news!! Yeah Sterling! I am so often afraid to come to this section to read about all the suffering - its so nice to hear a positive outcome.
  14. Not good with words? There are tears running down my face here. You loved Reggie so much, and gave him the best, even if his time here was short, and finally gave him the ultimate gift. Run free Reggie.
  15. I believe it is a cancer that has spread from somewhere else and has metastisized (sp?) in the lungs. I believe once it is there it is usually fatal. Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong or have left anything out.
  16. I too swear by EMT gel and spray. I have both on hand. A few weeks back Opie had a key ring clippee thing that punctured his pad on his foot. I used neosporin for a few days to make sure there was no infection. The hole was still there though. I switched to EMT gel and the hole scabbed and closed in a few days, even with him jumping and running in the house and going on walks (we used a sock on his foot). I think you are on the right track.
  17. Continued prayers for Bumper to keep getting better!
  18. Let us know what the vet says. The heat here in Washington has been killer, and unusual. Even our "nothing bothers me, even getting a clip through my paw" boy Opie finally refused to eat yesterday, after almost a week of heat.
  19. I agree here what a truly beautiful act of love, and totally unselfish decision you made. And one that was so hard. You are so lucky to still get to see your sweet boy and be a part of his life.
  20. We experienced record heat here in Seattle the last 4-5 days, and it took some ingenuity to keep the house cool for Opie. Yes, we have window units in the bedroom, and the living room, with fans blowing the air around the rest of the house, but we still had to close off a number of rooms, 2 of which he uses daily. He has a little routine that he starts in one room when we go to work, then walks around, goes to another, etc, and ends up in the living room. He was not happy with some of his rooms being closed off, but at least it kept it bearable in here for him (and me when i got home!) So yes, do what you have to do for your hound to stay cool. 90 is way too hot, IMO. We managed to keep it around 80 in here, which was great considering it was over 100 for at least 3 days.
  21. It is SOOOO nice to read GOOD news!!!! Hooray!
  22. Hugs for Peace, and prayers for "benign" results.
  23. Three years here in Washington too. Opie is going for his annual exam today, and is NOT due for Rabies this year.
