  1. Will he also receive the Oncept melanoma vaccine??? Pam
  2. He was lucky to have such amazing and dedicated owners and veterinary support. Kudos to all involved.
  3. Has she had a full Tick Borne Disease panel done. Neurological impact and character change are not unknown with some of the tick borne nasties.
  4. Are they sure it is a mini stroke and not a vestibular epsiode
  5. If I read the web sites correctly, Interceptor should be back on the market. http://www.1800petmeds.com/Interceptor-prod100142.html;jsessionid=wzqP+1ASM7UZaefK+bgRIAjj.prod6?_DARGS=/product_base_radio.jsp
  6. Yep, Cushings or thyroid top of the list to be ruled out. Both conditions can play by their own rules.
  7. Has Charlie ever been Lyme positive? Pericardial effusion.can be a rare but not undocumented repercussion from Lyme disease.
  8. The DHPP titre was around $100 I think. We vaccinate at one year (after puppy shots) then titre at three years and every two or three years thereafter vaccinationg only if necessary based on titer results. We do Rabies vaccinations every three years as we cross the border a lot.
  9. I think Iwould follow up with an echo and. Although it is rare, Lyme can cause an issue with the heart. Is she coughing at all or just panting in. Is her actual heart rate normal.
  10. I cannot speak for a grey but we had a tiny 6-1/2 lb Dachshund who had to have an eye removed when she was quite elderly because of glaucoma, did not slow her down one little bit and she lived to be 15 plus
  11. OH No I am so very sorry. You went above and beyond getting him the very best care you could.
  12. I agree that the Rimadyl might well be the cause. Hope his recovery is uneventful from here on.
  13. As a fellow Border Terrier owner I echo the sentiments of hoping you will stay with Greytalk
  14. You can easily get any additional calcium needed from the egg shells. Rinse the egg shells, bake at 400F for 10 minutes then grind them with a coffee grinder or food processor. Add to your mix at the rate of 1/2 tsp per 1lb of meat/fish and it will be close enough without too much fuss.
  15. Too funny. I flew to Texas with my (non-grey) pup when she was five months old. I feed raw/home prepared and knew I could not take that with me (we live in Canada) so made up some dog cookies with bonemeal in them so I could balance whatever we could come up with down there. (Going without calcium supplements for a week would not be an issue with an adult but I did not want to chance it with a growing pup). A bunch of us would go out for supper and by far the best prospect was to get on the table with the pre-teen kids. Boomer loved that trip. Steak, sweet potato, veggies cooked al dente, pasta, eggs, bacon, you name it, she ate it.
  16. NOW has powdered calcium carbonate which is easy to mix with food. How many mg of calcium does he need a day? I have also used ground eggshells (calcium carbonate) as a calcium supplement.
  17. Unless it is bleeding or there is a piece of tooth semi-detached it is not an emergency. Continue to keep it as clean as possible until you find a vet you are comfortable with. I have more experience with slab fractures than I care to remember having extremely avid chewers and removal was not recommended for any of them as long as the gum remained healthy and the tooth was firmly in place.
  18. . 4 inch high density good quality foam topped with 2 inch of quality memory foam should provide the right amount of firmness for support with just enough body absorbing give for comfort.
  19. Have you checked the color of her gums or capillary refill time when she lays down. Does she show exercise intolerance in other ways?
  20. Oddly enough, the one thing I cannot give my dogs if they have a loose stool is rice. I definitely see undigested rice unless it is glutinous rice that has had the living daylights cooked out of it
  21. You made the best decision you could with the information you when the decision had to be made. Hindsight always comes with the benefit of knowing the outcome (good or bad). The thoughtfulness and concerns you expressed are a measure of your love for Nadir. Dogs live in the moment and there is little doubt that you did everything to make Nadir's many, many moments precious.
  22. What type of crystals are they. Makes a big difference as to how they should be managed from a dietary standpoint Calcium Oxalate, Struvite, etc
  23. Low phosphorous may be more important than low protein (which tends to be unpalatable) - check out this web site. http://dogaware.com/health/kidney.html
  24. Honest Kitchen Preference with whatever protein source makes sense. With a bit of tweaking I have seen it work for geriatric dogs, dogs in early renal failure, dogs with a history of calcium oxalate crystals/stones and active youngsters.
  25. Sending strong vibes and healing white light.
