  1. Seems Raffie and Brindle share the same anniversary.
  2. I can't believe my Brindle girl has been gone for 6 yrs already. The tears still come so easily. I got her sight unseen as she was picked for me. I just told them I wanted a dark female. I got the most beautiful brindle girl. And intelligent. She understood so much. I remember once at a M&G someone came up to me and said that they heard greyhounds don't bark. I looked down at Brindle, her bright eyes sparkling at me and I said "did you hear that Brindle, you don't bark." She barked. I never taught her that trick, she did it totally on her own. Of all the greyhounds I have owned or fostered, I have never met another one with such light, sparkle and brilliance in their eyes that Brindle had. I often said Topaz was my hearthound when I lost her (another anniversary in exactly one month) Brindle was my soulmate. I have even accidentally used Brindle's name when I've called Pearl. And Pearl is white and black like Topaz. Has to be the personality. I used to have so many stories that I told about Brindle..........they are all fading away. She made it into the CG calendar on the first try, and no other pictures of mine have made it since. But she was gone before her month of fame (April 2002). Although she showed no signs of sickness, when she laid on the sofa beside me I would break into tears and tell her that she'd better not leave me. She was supposed to live extra long because Topaz died at age 5. Nov 16, 2001 I had scheduled an appt to remove a black spot on her skin that I didn't like the looks of. She was supposed to be home by 3 PM. At 4 PM I got a call saying she wasn't waking up. I rushed her from the local vets to U of Penn Vet hospital where they performed emergency surgery that night. She never woke up. She was completely consumed by cancer. Hemangiosarcoma. That was the second time in 2 years I drove the hour home alone without my baby. I dreampt about her often that first year. Each time, I woke up and realized I still hadn't hug her goodbye. I had forgotten in my dream that she was gone. I finally had a dream where I remembered that she had left and I hugged her and told her how much I loved her. I hadn't had a dream of Brindle since. God, I still miss you Brindle. Brindle doing agility: doing what every greyhound does: My Bright Eyes. Once opon a time I was falling in love, Now I'm only falling apart. Nothing I can do, a total eclipse of the heart. Turn around Bright eyes Turn around Bright eyes.
  3. Thank goodness, I use Petrodex. What's with all the recalls lately? Is it that companies are looking harder at the products they sell or are they getting lazier with the quality control?
  4. I just wanted to add my two cents. First and foremost, I do not have any dogs that have attacked anyone in the house. But what I have is a girl who periodically wakes up in a trance. She is completely lost. She knows her name but doesn't know where she is, how to jump off the bed, how to do stairs, where the back door is, nothing. Nothing basic. It has only happened while waking up from sleep, and then again only once in a while. I took her to a neurologist and we did an MRI and blood test. The works. With everything ruled out, he stated it was some kind of petite mal seisure. She would need 20-30 minutes to come completely out of it. This might be something similar but unfortunately with aggression. If you're near Red Bank, NJ, there is a terrific neurologist there. Good Luck!!
  5. OMG!! So young and so sudden!
  6. Farewell Master, yet not farewell Where I go, ye too shall dwell. I am gone before your face A moment's time A little space. When ye come where I have stepped Ye will wonder why ye wept.
  7. Farewell Master, yet not farewell. Where I go, ye too shall dwell. I am gone before your face A moment's time A little space When ye come where I have stepped Ye will wonder why ye wept. So many young ones. It's devestating.
  8. It's hard enough to lose our greykids when they've had a full life. But to lose one so young is unbearable. Godspeed Gizmo.
  9. Of the six that I have/had..........every single one is related to Onie Jones. The two bridge kids did not have osteo (well, Topaz was only 5, she could have gotten it if she lived). Brindle had hemangio. Of the four I still have, two made it to 10 and one is 12 yrs old. I have a unraced 3 yr old....it will be interesting to see what happens to her.
  10. Did he have late summer (ragweed) allergies? (itchy skin? the coat can still be beautiful even when itchy) Most of my girls have ragweed allergies. We just had a frost and the allergies are gone, but during that time (and you had to look hard), they had tiny pimples and a reddish rash. Now at this time of year, the dandruff starts. Always after the allergies disappear.
  11. Pheo generally causes hypertension, does he have high blood pressure? Also, Topaz had liver disease. The regular chem panel they do for liver showed a normally functioning liver. It wasn't until we did special tests, liver function (as opposed to liver enzymes) tests and they were off the charts. Off the planet actually. Did they do liver tests above the normal chem panel? Good luck with him.
  12. He could not have landed in better hands. If anyone can help him make it, it's GALT. C'mon Brody, you can do it!
  13. Here's an article on pet insurance. Towards the bottom is some helpful info, such as the list of insurers and questions to ask. link
  14. She's gorgeous. Hugs and prayers for you and Brandy.
  15. Tricia, I wish there was something more I could do other than say "I'm here for you."
  16. Oh Jennifer, I so sorry. And so soon after Dewey. I'm sure he's happy you took him. He waited long enough for you to bring him one last time.
  17. I did agility class with all my girls when I first got them. (a great bonding tool). So, they all learned the "dog walk", which is a very narrow ramp. So when I bought a wider, sturdier ramp, they had no problems. But what I did use to help learn the ramp was put a harness on them and treat them like a suitcase. It's better than dragging them by the neck or putting one foot in front of the other. good luck. It's a life saver. My old lady Onyx (12 yrs) now uses it to get into and out of the car. They all use it to get out. I don't like them constantly jumping down from that distance (I have a high SUV). MP and the 4 pack
  18. Nana turned 12 several weeks ago. She was running and swimming in the ocean and having a good old time at Dewey this past weekend. Her tieback surgery was last Jan. During surgery there is a higher risk of aspirate pneumonia. For the rest of their lives WITH or WITHOUT the surgery, there is a higher risk of aspirate pneumonia. My suggestion to you...........see a surgeon, not a general vet. Nana came through surgery wonderfully. As soon as she was awake and up, she was raring to go. The incision is on the side of the neck, they do not go down the throat to do it. They tie back only the left side. Her food needs to be softened (dry kibble soaked in water before eating), no milkbones. Nothing hard and crunchy that would have crumbs. And just be alert to any changes in coughing. (yeah, they cough a little more to clear their throats but that's all). Her back end is starting to weaken a little, but she has no other health issues. I'm glad I didn't hesitate. But please see a surgeon who has done this operation many times. If you're near NJ, I'll recommend my surgeon to you. MP and the 4 pack.
  19. Prayers coming in your direction. All I can say is that there have been several tripods that have lived years after diagnosis. Whether you go that route or not is totally up to you. I wish you the best of luck.
