  1. Your petsitter can get female potty pants at Petco ... I've found the sizing by weight is a darn good fit until the girlies are senior and have lost their muscle mass (so you don't need to adjust from the sizes on the package to account for greyhound physique). For a hound that is emptying a full bladder, you'll probably want to insert a poise pad (or 1/2 of one) ... kotex pads can work in a pinch, but they're not really intended to absorb that much liquid quickly.
  2. My deepest sympathies ... I hope your memories make you smile and help keep her close.
  3. Hello ... and congratulations! Are you introducing 2 greyhounds to each other? or is the introduction to small dogs, cats, or other animals? If its another grey, the 3 day rule is a good guideline, and then I would continue (muzzling both!) while the dogs are unsupervised.
  4. I'm so very sorry ... I hope you have many days of pain-controlled time to make wonderful memories. Gentle hugs.
  5. Glad for the updates ... and for the good baby steps!!
  6. Welcome!! There's a support thread specifically to help people post pictures ... you'll want a photobucket.com account (free) as a stepping stone to posting pics. You may also have to have more than 50 posts before you can add pics (not sure about that ... check out the thread). have fun ... and welcome to the world of greyhounds!
  7. Amanda -- I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago and have a soft crate that you could borrow (I keep it around for visiting hounds that love having a crate). PM me if you'd like to try it.
  8. I agree with everything above - my boy Riley was afraid of falling leaves when I first brought him home. Now he sleeps through fireworks and the neighbors lawn/leaf maintenance. My angel Paige would shake and freak out over storms unless I laid down beside her in bed, after which she fell asleep (apparently she was able to pick up all of her spoons during her naps). You could try adding some lavender essential oil or Young Living's Peace & Calming oil (perhaps in combination with Bach's Rescue Remedy) for some additional soothing. Melatonin or Valerian can offer some herbal calming as well (my friend has a storm-phobic hound that requires Peace&Calming, Melatonin & a Thundershirt to combat those scary thunderclouds). Slowly try new things for comfort ... and good luck. .
  9. if you find that you have a flea problem in the yard, you may also explore diatomaceous earth to complement your flea treatment. it is safe for the kiddies, and yet it can help reduce an infestation problem. Good luck ... i do hope this sweetheart can recover from his previous treatment. He reminds me of my little grumbly girl Paige, who came from another home at 33# when she was nearly 11yo (racing weight 65#). She was just too frail to recover the lost muscle mass, but had a glorious life in my home. How lucky that this boy is now in your hands ... and I do hope that your greyhound adoption group can assist if simple treatments are not enough.
  10. I'm sorry for the passing of your little girl, and thank you for your generous offer. I might also suggest that you check with local vets who might also know of someone in need without requiring the shipping costs ...
  11. I'm so glad Molly picked you to give her a forever home, and thank you for listening to her when she told you she was ready to leave. It's so hard to say goodbye, but I hope you continue to see her love of life (and of you) in the world around you every day. Gentle hugs.
  12. excellent progress! are we ready for pictures yet??
  13. well, did you really come to Greytalk to get opinions about adopting another greyhound???? Adopt when you're ready ... and it sounds like you are. I'd let your hound pick your pup ... I've heard lots of 'stories about the boys & girls getting along best and must admit that mine have always worked out that way, but I'm pretty sure you're already prepared for whatever special little package seems to call to you at the pet fair (dare I suggest that you bring TWO extra leashes? ) Remember rules about pictures!!! And congratulations in advance!
  14. many hugs for the battle on the horizon.
  15. Ask Dr. Cuoto ... and I'm so sorry about your diagnosis.
  16. Cook a sweet potato until its mush (I poke holes in a scrubbed sweet potato, wrap it in foil, and throw it in the oven when i'm using the oven. And if your sweetheart won't eat it, you can use the leftover for sweet potato bread (which is a fabulous sweet bread, adaptable for gluten-free - requires ~1c mashed sweet potato). Good luck.
  17. Thank you everyone ... the hugs are quite welcome! I'm blessed to know that I didn't wait too long, and that waiting wouldn't have changed the prognosis. From the time she was racing, she only answered to "Baby", and she answered to that name no matter what tone of voice I used. It does seem appropriate that its raining today.
  18. Gosh I hate writing this. Heck, I'm not good at writing to begin with, but I REALLY hate writing ... well, HERE. My little girl is gone. Baby, the grumbly girl, who could open peanut butter jars without damaging the lid, and who prefers the MIDDLE of the bed, is now running free. Last summer, I noticed a lump on Baby's leg. I was so relieved to hear that it wasn't osteo, but in December, I had the tumor removed to try to keep it from blocking the main vein in her back leg. February, the tumor was back, and every week since then it has gotten measurably bigger and angrier looking. Last month, we had a scare when Baby's foot started swelling - the vein was being blocked. I got to see the miracle of prayer at work, though, because 4 days later, Baby's body had performed a miracle and the other blood vessels in that foot started taking on the role of that blocked vein. This week, however, things started really changing, and we just couldn't risk waiting any longer (and having the tumor burst). So on this beautiful fall day, Baby and I enjoyed some lovely time with Riley and our friends Bo & Sky and Kathy. Gosh I miss you, little girl!
