DesiRayMom
I took in 2 senior fosters in October. The male has anxiety issues that manifest in diarrhea. He's getting trazadone for the anxiety (which is helping) but I have learned that when his poo gets "mushy", there's a bad spell coming on. So far, a couple of Metro500 helps head it off. I'm wondering if anyone has ever used Manuka honey to calm the tummy/intestinal tract. Seems logical to me. I'd rather use that if I thought it would help. TIA for any experience/advice Quote Blessed is the person who has earned the love of an old dog.
greysmom
I have not for my girl, but several GTers have done so with good results. IMO it's worth a try as long as his symptoms are controllable. I also use this herbal supplement which we originally received from a chinese herbal specialist to help with Lilly's anxiety. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00541AB4A/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2GZCWR0EJQPO Quote Chris - Mom to: Felicity (DeLand), and Andi (Braska Pandora) siggy by Chris Harper, on Flickr Angels: Libby (Everlast), Dorie (Dog Gone Holly), Dude (TNJ VooDoo), Copper (Kid's Copper), Cash (GSI Payncash), Toni (LPH Cry Baby), Whiskey (KT's Phys Ed), Atom, Lilly
Remolacha
I used it with Fletcher who had pretty severe IBS until we got it under control. It was definitely helpful, but you may still need some meds, just depends.
MaryJane
Fiber will help - add cooked oatmeal to his foods. You might also consider a probiotic. Depending on how serious it is - you might need to go with a different protein like fish. That's what I use for Lucy and it has worked well. lukasmom
How about Olewo Carrots. They help calm the digestive system and firm up poops. I have been using it for 3 years. My hounds love it.
tbhounds
Manuka honey really won’t address true ibd. Sounds like what you are experiencing is more of a stress colitis. Increasing fiber may be more beneficial. Another theory would be to do just the opposite and feed low residue (raw for example).
Remolacha
Yeah, Fletcher had IBS, which is more like stress colitis, rather than IBD. I think the manuka honey helped soothe his gut once it became inflamed from the IBS.
