mikefc
does anyone use "people" toothpaste for their grey ? My wife is in the dental field and feels this is fine, I'm not so sure.
Guest MnMDogs
No, you shouldn't use people toothpaste, it's not meant to be ingested.

DocsDoctor
No, don't. Fluoride, which is found in most human toothpastes, is highly toxic for dogs. And some contain Xylitol (artificial sweetener) I gather, which is also dangerous. Buy a purpose-made dog toothpaste - or you can make your own using baking soda (lots of recipes if you google). GreytXpctations
Or use an enzyme based gel like PetZ that helps break down plaque and tartar buildup.

MP_the4pack
No. Xylitol is very toxic to dogs and almost all people toothpaste has it.
RedHead
Dogs don't have the sense to spit out their toothpaste like humans do. They swallow it, which is a big reason by human toothpaste is a no-no. I make my own dog toothpaste, and use a bit of peppermint extract if you like the "minty" smell

3greytjoys
Agree with others: Human toothpaste is known to be toxic to pets. Most dogs like the taste of CET pet toothpaste. Poultry flavor is all our Greyhounds' favorite flavor (we've tried them all). They consider it like a yummy treat. Here's one link: http://www.entirelypets.com/cettoothpaste.html Long handled "pet toothbrushes" work well.
