Katie Has Limped A Little

I just lost my sweet boy Padfoot a week ago to GI cancer. Now over the weekend my girl Katie limped a little on Saturday morning. She is now bearing weight on it, and walking for the most part normal. She'll even jog too. She is 7 and my mind just goes to Osteo. When we went to the vet today, the vet said her legs seem fine but her front left shoulder, the muscle twitches a little showing that maybe she just pulled a muscle playing, or doing "a dog trick" like he says. But we deiced to xrays to make sure. They will be done on Weds. the reason for the wait, is how they would do a shoulder xray, they feel it would be better if she was sedated. So while she's there she'll get a dental too(she defiantly needs one, and a breath mint). I'm just worried, but hoping for the best. I told the vet I don't want to be the crazy, paranoid dog lady. But when you have a grey, and they limp...that is were most minds goes. Plus after just losing a grey to cancer who was only 7, it's a little scary. Thanks in advance for the thoughts.

It's scary. The same thing happened to Treasure last week and he X-rays were negative for osteo. Hoping the same for Katie.

Hoping for the best. When I lost my boy to the same cancer his surviving littermate ended up at the vet because I saw something. She is fine, I'm just sensitive and I really hope it's just a little sensitivity for you as well.

First, I am so sorry you lost Padfoot. I agree, he was much too young.

If Katie's limp got better with rest--it is most likely a muscle injury and not cancer. But, I know, it is impossible not to worry. My thoughts are with her (and you).

Wishing Katie and you all the best. I understand how nerve wrecking it is when a greyhound starts to limp. I lost my soul dog Primetime to osteo this past July. He was only 8 and was the picture of perfect health, active and happy then the limping started and there it was. I was crushed. But on the other hand, Henry passed away just two months short of his 15th birthday and over the years had so many "limping scares", my mind would just automatically go to the worst possible diagnosis and yet he never got osteo. Not ALL greyhounds get osteo, but over the years I did learn that they are somewhat more prone to orthopedic issues, all kinds of minor injuries that can be from past racing injuries to just playing too hard. Try to stay positive.

All the good warm wishes worked!!! There was nothing visible in the X-rays. Now they did say that is not a guarantee, but ill take it for now. They did show me an extra of a dog with osteo, and then Katie's X-rays, and even I could find it in the dog with, and there wasn't anything like that on Katie's!!! So she is home, with clean X-rays, and clean teeth!!
