Rickiesmom
I noticed a tiny "something" some weeks back and hoped it would disappear. It has grown and looks like a skin tag, not quite a quarter inch long, narrower and flattish. I can't find my camera or I'd post a picture. It's skin-coloured. (For anyone wondering, it's not a nipple, though it's not far from one, it really is a skin tag.) We have a vet appointment tomorrow as I want it looked at. In the meantime I'm wondering, for anyone whose had a hound with one of these, what it turned out to be, and what was done about it. Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences. Jan 15 update: It's not a skin tag after all. He doesn't know what it is and said I could watch it or we could take it off. I decided to have him take it off, since he could do it using a local. Very little impact on her, other than a stitch or two, and this way we'll know very early if it's not as innocent as hoped. Jan 18 update: It's a sebaceous adenoma - totally benign, yay! GreytHoundPoet
Lucius has had one for years. I get it checked out at every physical but it is just a skin tag. IndyandHollyluv
Hi there. Not sure how old your pup is but I adopted a 12-1/2 yr old female grey last year. She has about a half-dozen unique skin growths (meaning none are quite the same in texture or appearance) on her leg, sides, etc. She also has what I would describe as a half a golf-ball size growth (which feels soft and fluid-filled) underneath her chest / rib-cage area. She was checked out before I adopted her and I also asked my vet to have a look-see. None of the vets seemed concerned. She is now almost 13-1/2. All you can do is have your vet check it out ... and you may want to monitor any growths for change in size, color, appearance, etc. Hopefully it is no big deal. Good luck! TheFullHouse
Glad he was able to remove it with a local. Hope it turns out to be nothing. pabozem
Tivvy had a growth on her stomach that looked like a nipple and was about the same size. It was in the middle of her stomach though - not where nipples normally are located. I had my vet take it off, just to be on the safe side. greytpups
When I started reading your post, I thought you were talking about yourself and was kinda shocked about it being close to a nipple and not being able to find your camera It wasn't until I read the line about the vet appt that I realized you were talking about sweet Jaynie. Hope it turns out to be harmless. Quote Jan with precious pups Emmy (Stormin J Flag) and Simon (Nitro Si) and Abbey Field. Rickiesmom
Jan I am assuming it's nothing. But for peace of mind, it just seemed best to take it off and know for sure, rather than watching and worrying.
Guest greytkidsmom
Cutting it off is always better than worrying in my opinion. That said, Tiel had a skin tag on her tummy for about a year. We had it removed at her latest dental. Path was benign. Hoping for similar results for your pup.
