Wonder
This morning at 6:30am when I gave him his meds, I noticed his mouth was very wet and he was drooling (not foaming like with his other seizures). I put him in his plastic crate and gave him his food. After he ate, I opened the crate door and he had his head down. I saw drool pouring out of his mouth. I tilted his head up so I could look at his face and the right side of his mouth was twitching and he was still drooling. I did not notice anything else unusual. It was too dark to look at his eyes. Nothing else was twitching. He was aware of me the whole time. I called his neuro but she's out of the country until the 31st so I emailed her. I suspect he's been having these seizures but I just didn't realize it. I've come home from work and seen drool in his crate. I googled simple partial seizures and it sounds like what is happening. He's currently on 250 mg zoni and 100 mg pheno. I think I will call his other vet today and give them an update. update His neuro vet just replied to my email. She said it sounds like a partial seizure and to keep logging these. Not changing his meds at this time. update 12/31 see post #15 Edited December 31, 2012 by Wonder Quote Kari and the pups.Run free sweet Hana 9/21/08-9/12/10. Wonder
Thunder had another seizure Saturday around 6pm. I'm wondering if this is a pattern- he gets his meds between 6-6:30 am and pm. His seizure the week before was around 6:15ish. I didn't realize it was a seizure at first. He just seemed "off". He was restless. Would lay down but wouldn't put his head down. He was wandering around the room. He would stare at the wall. He would stand out, circle once, stare at the wall. Then he wandered into the kitchen and I found him staring at the back door. I still didn't know what was going on so thought he had to go out. I sent him out the patio door and he just stood there. He came back in and did more wandering. If I called him, he really wouldn't look at me and I couldn't get him to come to me (that's not normal at all). His ears were up the entire time. At 6:30, I gave him his drugs. He seemed better. Then he ran over and jumped on me on the couch-he was back to normal. There was no drooling or foam but his mouth was very wet. His neuro vet is back to work today so I emailed her yesterday Today is his 3rd birthday. Quote Kari and the pups.Run free sweet Hana 9/21/08-9/12/10. TheFullHouse
Sounds like his drug level is dropping off just before the next dose is due. You might ask the vet about juggling the schedule of one of the drugs to give you some extra coverage during the time where it's getting low. The other thing is that a seizure dogs brains does learn to pattern seizures to happen around the same time. Saints patterned around 10:30 at night. You could set your clock by them. Thanks for replying Judy. I've been wanting to ask your advice but you have a lot on your plate right now. I know the zoni isn't controlling his seizures but the vet doesn't want to stop giving it to him. She said there are cases where they have more seizures after stopping zoni. I'm fine with keeping him on it. I'm still waiting to hear back from the vet. I will ask her about giving the drugs a hour apart to see if that will help. I started last night giving him melotonin before bed to see if that helps at all. Quote Kari and the pups.Run free sweet Hana 9/21/08-9/12/10.
