3DogNite
Well, it's been a long couple of weeks leading up to NO DENTAL. Lazer is fine, happy and taking his morning nap I, on the other hand, have been running the gauntlet, and dealing with Veterinary Dental EXTORTIONIST!!! I found board certified dental specialists who said Lazer's mouth looked basically dirty, no real problems, no roots showing, no gum receding.... and then proceeded to charge me $2,000 for his dental!!!!!! if I wasn't so i would have been and this didn't even include the extra charge for the anesthesiologist (add $1000) they insisted their price is fair for the "complicated nature" of Lazers Dental --- what complicated nature,, general cleaning is what it sounds like to me from the vets own description of his mouth..... They obviously are SCARED TO DEATH of Lazer and his health history. i bet they are relieved i cancelled --- but they will not confess this -- so, I'm going to try Petzlife gel or spray. Seems like several of you have had good results with that. and maybe a round of antibiotics,, i'll talk to my Dr. V about that (corner vet who I love,, just not for critical things) I don't want to brush just yet - in fear of stirring up bacteria ---- Laser is coming up on his One Year Anniversary in his second life. He is doing very well and his blood work continues to improve and I'm just going to be thankful every day that he is still here with us,,, bad breath and all! end of gauntlet run - Quote lorinda, mom to the ever revolving door of Foster greyhounds Always in my heart: Teala (LC Sweet Dream) , Pepton, Darbee-Do (Hey Barb) , Rascal (Abitta Rascal), Power (Beyond the Power), and the miracle boy LAZER (2/21/14), Spirit (Bitter Almonds) 8/
racindog
Sounds like to me this is a perfect example of all things working together for good! I'm sure you will be surprised and pleased with the results you see from the Petz-Life. Love and kisses to Lazar!!!!!!!!!
Riverhound
I wish you were around here. NGAP does a pretty decent awake de-gunking. It's by no means a real dental, but it helps. Do you have someone who can do that after you've had him on antibiotics for a bit? Quote Masterful Joe and Naughty N Nice
3DogNite
Yes, all things happen for a reason --- Lazer was not supposed to have a dental this week. I'm ok with that and will work on his teeth here at home. I may try something like a non-anesthesia "awake" dental cleaning. Lazer has such a soft, gentle spirit and gets pretty ~ VERY ~ nervous at the vet office. between his teeth chattering and his legs shaking and jumping around from nerves,, might be tough to do this kind of treatment. Remolacha
Fletcher's new vet gave me some PlaqueOff that she says they have had great results with. Not sure what all meds Lazer is still taking and how this would work with them, but it might save you a dental if his teeth are just gunky. http://www.international-dental.com/id/proden_plaqueoff_animal.htm
