rschultz
Lexie threw up this afternoon a few hours after her reg meal. two hours after tonights usually snack (regular), she is constantly stretching (like when waking up) and looks uncomfortable. Is there anything I should give to ease her stomach problems? If thats even what it is? She has never thrown up before or stetched like this before in the 4 years we have had her. I know she didn't get into anything in the yard cause I have been walking her since it has been so cold here. PrairieProf
I would get her to the vet ASAP. It could be something very serious, like pancreatitis. AEB
Agreed. Maybe even bloat. Or perhaps she ate an object that is obstructing things. Good Luck and let us know what happens. Hope she feels better soon.
seeh2o
I'd be concerned about potential bloat. Can you give her some Gas-X? AEB
I would give two tabs. Maybe others know more about how much in an emergency. It's pretty benign stuff- lets the gas come out and knocks it back. But if it's bloat her intestines are twisted and she doesn't have much time to remedy it. Just get some in her and head to the vet. Good luck!

Time4ANap
1 or 2 tablets should get a big belch fairly quickly if it's gas. I've given it to Rocket in the past when I hear gas noises like little squeals coming from his stomach. If she persists with the signs of discomfort she needs to get to the vet. AEB
Do you hear any intestinal gurgling? Put your head near her tummy and listen. If not, I would highly suspect bloat. Is she relaxed and able to be comfortable or is she still stretching or pacing or retching or arching her back? then again, I would highly suspect bloat. rschultz
She is relaxed now and no stretching again ( so far). I gave her the gas x. AEB
Keep a close eye on her. If she does anything strange like that again go immediately to the vet. Also, make sure you watch her pee and poop tonight walk her around so you can see and shine the flashlight on her to make sure things are coming out. Do it again in the morning. If she's eating/drinking/pooping/peeing normally and is relaxed you can probably relax.

rschultz
PHEWWW!!! Vet called me. He said if it were bloat she wouldn't be better this morning. In bloat it gets progressively worse. He said he sees a lot of dogs who do that stretching when their belly hurts. He explained exactly where the stomach is ( i felt stupid not really knowing) It's under the end of the ribs. He said it would distent and be hard as a drum. She would have also not improved as the night went on (which she did). He told me to give her pepcid for the next couple of days. If she has small bout of this again he said to bring her in so he can run some tests. Lexie seems like her normal self this morning, even wanting to play as usual. thanks all for caring about our precious girl You are a good mommy. Keep us posted. Rocket paced the floor all night worrying. (well, at least mentally he was pacing). Tell Rocket he can relax his gf is ok today.
