Goldie's Not Good :-(

UPDATE:

Well, this isn't the update I wanted to post. Goldie seemed ok during the night, but when she got up at 4 a.m. to eat (*yes they eat then :-), she ate, and then became very stiff and unable to walk without swaggering. I immediately gave her Valium by mouth and (1) 81 mg low dose aspirin (in case of stroke). She got worse, so, off to the Evet. While there, we both witnessed what was a focal seizure. Her bloodwork was within normal limits, although a bit dehydrated (she got sub q fluids). EKG and blood pressures normal, too.

This is all making sense to me now, as Goldie's personality has changed during the last few weeks. She cries and howls at night (*I actually had a vet appt next week for her), she is constantly hungry, and ULTRA playful for a 10 yr old. Both the vet and I think it is a brain tumor :( ... All I can do is start her on Phenobarb (which I have for Curfew, even though he doesn't take it), and treat her seizures with rectal Valium as needed.

Like any disease that has no cure ... I have to take this day by day. At least Curfew's "episodes" have been few and far between. I now will stay home even more! ... I go NO WHERE! Dh does all the running.

RE: Oakly???? We aren't sure what, or if that was just a coincidence. Goldie's bloodwork didn't indicate that she'd gotten into anything toxic.

So, there you have it! I am wiped out! I got into "Paramedic mode," when this stuff happens, and turn to Jello later!

***ALSO, if anyone has gone through a dog with a brain tumor, I'd appreciate hearing from you, so I know what to expect. I mean, I KNOW :( , but still, ... You can PM me. Thanks!

Love you guys! Dee

Hi All!

WHAT a day!

First, in the early hours of this morning, Oakly, 8, was walking around and seemed confused, and "out of it." I gave him 5 mg of Valium and Pepcid AC, which seemed to calm him down. He seemed OK, for half the morning, then vomited. Once he did that, he seemed OK. Earlier this evening, he started the wandering, and looking around (behavior that seemed neurological). Again, he was eating, drinking knew his name, etc., and I gave another Valium and Pepcid AC. He is now sleeping.

THEN, ouf of the blue, Goldie, 10, started licking her nose, and vomited the contents of her dinner. Her heart was racing, and eyes glazed. She also seemed to have neuro symptoms, ... possibly dizziness, causing the vomiting? Once I was able to get it into her, I did the same, 5 mg of Valijm and a Pepcid AC. She is now resting as well.

YIKES!!! The other three seem fine (*fingers crossed). Oakly and Goldie's temps and blood pressures are normal. I have NO idea whether they got into something, or have a virus. All five go out together and in the same yards. We did take a walk through the woods yesterday, and I wonder if they picked up something? Who knows?!

Needless to say, I will be up all night with them, and we do have an Evet within 15 minutes, If they are still sick tomorrow, to the vets for bloodwork and evaluations.

I would appreciate some prayers, good thoughts and white light for Oakly, 8, and my old girl Goldie, who will be 10 on Dec. 5th.

Thanks a lot! Dee

As someone who went through a rough night last night, I'm really sorry you're going through this! Hope they settle down so you don't need the e-vet and you figure it out quickly.

Thanks! How is Beth? Did they ever figure out what was going on with her? I thought of her when this started!

Hugs to you both!

And, what is WEIRD is that ours are NEVER around other dogs! I don't take them off this property.

Was Fuzzy vomiting and acting weird, too? Hugs to Fuzzy from us!

I hope they are feeling better, Dee! The first thing I thought of was something in the air (carbon monoxide leak or something) but the others are fine? They could be more sensitive than the others to some other change in the air or house. Please keep us posted. Hopefully it will just pass.

Did you open a new bag of food?

No, but we did get a batch of new treats in. I was thinkng that as well. I have several different types. They ALL get the same treats. Too weird! Have you been seeing anything viral going around?

I've been updating my thread here in H&M -- they think it's just a GI thing, all the bloodwork is normal, but she's definitely not OK yet.

This is strange. Just about everyone I know who owns more than one dog has one with the big D or vomitting. It seems to hang around a few days and then go away. Can't figure out why the "more than one dog" thing would make that much of a difference, but in each case, one dog was sick and the others weren't.

Whatever "it" is, I hope it goes away without intervention. Oakly and Goldie - you just gotta feel better. ok?

I have been keeping up with her on your thread. Poor baby girl! I AM sorry that she still isn't herself. Glad she has you:colgate

Extra good thoughts and prayers coming your way, Dee. I hate to hear Oakly & Goldie are under the weather; I hope it's just a little bug that will be gone in the morning. Please keep us updated. Think of you often.

If you've been out tromping around the woods and your dogs pick up little things to eat, might check on whether there's buckthorn in your area. The little dark purple berries can cause some vomiting and diarrhea. That affect *might* be delayed a bit altho I won't swear to that.

I was also thinking they might have picked something up on the walk, but it wasn't really deep woods, etc.., it was a path. I also waited until we had a few HARD FREEZES to be sure all the varments and foilage was dead, but ya never know!

Some pics and stuff here: http://www.invasive.org/species/subject.cfm?sub=3070

It's more of a scrub/edges-of-things plant than a forest tree.

Kind of a longshot, but still.

Dee, sorry your going through this. I hope it is just a virus that will pass quickly and no one else has any problems. Lots of healing thoughts and prayers are comming your way from here. :candle:hope Jiro has had a digestive upset that started lastnight also, I was up several times with him. He never threw up but his stomach was upset, thankfully none of the rest of my crew are acting strangely.
