Guest aaspenwall
I'm thankful today, as I am every day, for the incomparable Aristotle. He was the first of my 4 (so far) greys. I adopted him when he was 5 and he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma just a few months short of his 12th birthday. He wasn't perfect (he had nicks and scars from racing, was missing the tip of one ear from a run-in with another foster dog in his first home, he could be a little jumpy in his excitement to go for walkies), but he was perfect for me. I had to wait what seemed an impossibly long time to be able to adopt him, but once I got to bring him home, he settled in quickly and was like he'd always been there. He was my once-in-a-lifetime, heart dog; quietly confident and friendly, he knew when to snuggle, when to be silly, and he introduced me to all Greyhound wonders. He was a great leaner and would rest his head on the edge of my bed to say good morning. It seems impossible that he's been gone a whole year, but above all, I am thankful for having walked on the other end of the leash for nearly 7 years. Guest jenznaz
but above all, I am thankful for having walked on the other end of the leash for nearly 7 years. That's a lovely quote. Hugs to you, I lost a part of my soul when my Naz left last June.
JohnF
You have honoured him with your well-put words. These heart dog anniversaries are the most bitter-sweet for us because whilst we fondly remember all our dogs, the 'heart ones' never actually get to leave our hearts. I lost mine, 'Angel,' 1:23:2009 and I don't expect to get another heart dog before my time here on Earth is up. Her photo gallery (search for fast angel at PBase.com) still receives regular visitors. greyhead
Amy, I'm so glad you had a heart dog and so sorry he had to leave. Aristotle sounds wonderful. No wonder his memory lives on.
