Sending tons of white light, prayers and positive thoughts to Soul for his continues progress. I hope his recovery is fast and uneventful....there's nothing worse that watching our babies so sick with no real answers.

Sorry, I haven't on much today. I'm a little loopy from lack of sleep. . . . well, he seems to be back to his old self---giving me he77 today about wanting to go somewhere. After the last few sleepy, lethargic days he's back to being my goofy Soul. I've been taking his temp, and it's never gone above 100, so no infection has set in . . . .still not sure what that was all about, but he was in obvious, severe distress. Now that he's farted, is back on the flagyl, and had a few days of rest he seems to be all better :)

Glad he is feeling better! Maybe he needs to be on the Flagyl full time. That was one possibility my vet discussed with me when Fletcher was first diagnosed with IBD. Thankfully, it hasn't been necessary for us, but maybe it is for Soul?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing . . . .that he needs to be on Flagyl long term, as this 'episode' occured when there was no change in his diet, and it seemed very sudden

Yeah for farting! :catscat

Glad he's feeling better. Amber, have you ever tried feeding raw? It's really hard to imagine trying it now since he's had so much trouble with the food switches, I'm not sure I'd even recommend it, but so many dogs with stomach issues have improved dramatically through raw feeding alone. :dunno

My vet says there can be problems with long-term metronidazole use. It's not a common problem, but something that does crop up occasionally. (Google Flagyl. I think my vet was worried about peripheral neuropathy.) When the vet and I were discussing a "maintenance dose" of drugs for Sam, we were looking at Tylan: no known problems with long-term use, although it can be hard to get some dogs to take it since it tastes so nasty.

Fortunately for me, Sam's a food gulper. If I put the Tylan powder in the middle of a slice of cheese, then balled up the cheese, he gulped it down just fine. (It turns out, though, that we don't need the maintenance dose. He's gotten better with a change in food.) If Sam had needed to stay on the Tylan long-term, I think I'd have started making capsules for him.

Good luck.
