Ranchie Came Into Out Lives A Year Ago

I got to thinking the other day that it was a year ago this weekend that Ranchie (Xtra Ranch) came into our lives. He was a good boy, ever the gentleman, as he fought the infection that eventually claimed his life. He was one of the most affectionate, intuitive, easy-going dogs I've ever met. He was smart (before the infection started in his leg, he learned to let himself out of his crate at the adoption kennel).

There were many times that Pam arrived home and I was curled up asleep on a dog bed with Ranchie because we both took naps as his leg soaked. Many dogs will tolerate that sort of thing, but Ranchie seemed to really enjoy having someone to snuggle up agianst.

He was the perfect house dog and I'm glad we were able to give him a taste of pet life before he left us.

I swear not a day goes by that I don't think of him. I wanted to offer him a home so bad once he got well but knew I was too far away.

I thank God every day that he knew how much he was loved, I really believe that. I guess I need to believe that.

You all fought so hard for him, he had to know you were fighting for him, as did Marilyn.

He is one boy I will never in my life, forget

It's dog's like Ranch that remind us how fragile life really is.

I think of him often, and am reminded that there are wonderful people out there who do whatever it takes, even if their hearts will be broken in the end.

To each of you who helped him, thank you! You gave him the most important thing of all, love.

I just read thru all 17 pages of his heartbreaking story, bless all of you who stood by him, loving and nursing him.... He sounds like he was a absolute joy to be around and such a fighter. It is amazing and awe inspiring to see the wonderful people of GT come together to help such a wonderful little guy. Bless all who sent him meds and funds and prayed for him for the months that he struggled. He died a day before my birthday and I will, like many others, always remember him :weep

He absolutely tugged at my heart strings and I think about him often. The people who were involved in his care were exceptional and they too will never be forgotten.

I read through Ranchie's thread yesterday and couldn't even speak to it until today! Just wow. Such hard work and dedication on everyone's part. And nobody worked harder than poor Ranchie. He must have known he was loved. I'm so very sorry for your loss! :grouphug:f_white:grouphug

I made the big mistake of reading through the entire Ranchie post today at work....ended up in major tears and had to run to the bathroom to get myself together for a meeting. To all of you who tried so hard....you are my heroes and the very reason I have these hounds of mine. Bless you and Ranchie....I hope you've met up with my Lewis.

I think about Ranchie often. :( You guys fought so hard for him and he was right there with you, being such a brave soul through it all. You and Pam gave him love and a chance, there is not a better gift than that. :grouphug

:grouphug I just read his whole thread. What a beautiful testament to the dedication you all had to this special boy, and the fighting spirit he had.

Ranchie :heart

I will always remember you because the day last December that I adopted my Robin from Pam, I was pleased to also receive Ranchie as a special delivery to take down to Marilyn at Grey Haven.

Robin and Ranchie rode together in the back of my SUV, and they got along just fine.

Ranchie was so easy going and even tempered. What a gentle soul. I know that he knew and appreciated how hard everyone was working trying to make him all better.

I honestly thought that once Marilyn had him looked at by her specialists, and the decision was made to amputate, that he'd be another Jerry Murray-like energetic tripod recuperating at Grey Haven and waiting for his perfect forever home.

It was so sad and seemed so unfair when Ranchie lost his battle. But he definitely went to the Bridge knowing he was loved by many, many people.

Rest in peace, sweet boy. You are missed.
