rschultz Posted April 22, 2009 Share Posted April 22, 2009 I just noticed today that one of lexi'es hip bones looks higher than the other. I felt them and they feel the same . Could they have always been that way and i just noticed after 2 years? She is walking running sitting..ect..fine. I know when greys get too thin you see the bones but I only see one bone more than the other. Please tell me this is normal. Maybe i should feed a lil more? When my hip is off it doesn't really cause me any pain or discomfort, unless I let it go for too long - THEN it starts to be uncomfortable. My kids get adjusted every 6 months or so unless a situation warrants them seeing the chiro sooner than that. sdisto Posted April 23, 2009 Share Posted April 23, 2009 I used to worry about this too until I asked my vet. I have one boy who's hips are rounded smooth, even when he's thin. And I have another boy who's hip points stick up on his back unless he's really chunky. My newest boy Frankie is a skinny boy and he has one hip that sticks up and one that is rounded. He's been that way since he came to stay with me almost a year ago. I asked my vet and she said it was no big deal - he just got a mixed set! My boy had the same problem that I didn't notice until he went off his food for a few days and then I saw his lopsided hips. He was definately out and then I had the guilt trip because I had no idea how long he had been like that. One trip to the chiropractor and he was fine. However as another poster stated we are all a little off so I would not consider this a grave problem. More likely that noticing it worries you more than the condition is worrying the pup. Probably nothing to worry about if Lexi is not limping. I also have a Lexi at home, 4 paws. A trip to the holistic vet for chiro might just be what Lexi needs. I don't feel pain or even discomfort if I'm out of whack, but when I ride my horse I can definitely feel more weight on one side than the other. And so does he! He responses to weight change. So if I'm not adjusted then we usually have a poor ride because he keeps wanting to go in a circle. I have my girls adjusted every other month. Atlas broke his hock and as a result of the different shaped leg, his hip points don't match up anymore (one sits lower than the other). In light of no pain, or discomfort, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've heard that it is due to running counterclockwise around a graded track and that the uneven hipbones are not a problem. An informal survey to test that explanation: For others that have greyhounds with uneven hipbones -- is it the left hip that is higher?
