Update On Clark.

Recommended Posts

It is osteosarcoma.

We will keep him comfortable and spoil him until he lets us know it is time. Right now he is doing good, DH said he was trotting around outside today. I bought an inflatable mattress and am sleeping downstairs with him. I don't want him doing our steep stairs. I'm afraid that would be too much, the osteo is in his front leg.

Question for those that have used the generic Metacam from Walmart. How frequently do you have to give the pills? The liquid is once a day. My vet is going to write me a prescription so I can get the pills and save some money. I love my vet, he is the one who suggested it!

:cry1 I am so sorry! I am not sure of the metacam dosage, but I am pretty sure he will need more than that at some point :grouphug

I'm so sorry for the diagnosis. I know it's so very devastating to hear because we know our time is limited with them. We almost have a whole new appreciation for them after the diagnosis. Just hug and spoil him daily.

We are so sorry that osteo is working its evil on your sweet Clark. Count every day as a blessing and spoil him rotten, lots of snuggle time, treats and pictures. Making memories will help when it is time to walk him to the Bridge - but we hope not too soon. Sending extra prayers, hugs and scritches.

I'm so very sorry. :cry1 OS is SUCH a monster. :( Talk with your vet about using a combination of meds, like the Metacam + tramadol. Pain control is critical. You also might want to consider joining the Circle of Grey for additional support and advice re treatment options. Sending more prayers to your sweet Clark. :hope

Clark is on Metacam and tramadol. He hates the tramadol! The only way to get that in him is to put it in some cream cheese then put that to the back of his throat so it slides down. I was just wondering about the metacam pills and if thay are once a day like the liquid.

If you're getting Mobic from Walmart, the dosage for my 75 lb boy is 1/2 pill once a day (meloxicam 7.5 mg pills). Doublecheck with your vet of course. Ask him about adding gabepentin in addition to the tramadol & metacam. It helps with nerve pain. 9All 3 meds do different things.) I also used pepcid & sucralfate for my girl to help her stomach with the NSAID.. Cream cheese & peanut butter are staples here for pill giving.

I'm so sorry to hear about Clark - I hope you have a lot more time together.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. This disease is so out of hand.

I have only used Metacam, I don't know anything about the generic so I don't know the answer to your question.

All I can offer is lots of prayers for many many comfortable days

I'm so sorry. You need to ask the vet about dosage frequency. I used the liquid so only know about that. And I did use Pepcid too. As for the Tramadol, I hid it in any number of things for Jack as it was not a favoutite of his either. Kiss that sweet boy for me and know we're here for you.
