VinnieAndRexsMom
When we saw Rex's xrays with the fluid filling fast and he struggled to breathe, we let him go. The vet said there was nothing we could do to help him. I had my mom there who also saw the xrays, and she too said his lungs were gone. I did not want him going into respiratory distress or scared because he could not breathe. And at that point, we did not know what we were dealing with other than lungs that were shot. The diagnosis came weeks later when the path report came back. I will be thinking of you and Beth. Wishing you both peace, Quote Tonya, mom to May, and my angels Vinnie, Rex, Red, Chase, and Jake. Guest tigger
I whole heartedly agree with the thoughts below. My Rosie had fluid in her chest and was given 24-72 hours. In shock from such unexpected news, I asked if there was anything to do to help her. They drew fluid off...but it was quickly replaced as the night went on. At 3am...as I watched her struggling to get a breath...I really felt horrible for her that I could do nothing to help her. I too would never choose for one of mine to go through that respiratory distress again.....esp when path reports take weeks. Sometimes they just don't have that time anymore and we have to think in the "now" for them. Hugs to both of you. Guest WhiteWave
I'm sorry. This is what I lost Linus too. We didn't even know he had it. I came home from work and he was bouncing around and acting all happy to see me and his leg snapped into. My first thoughts where osteosarcoma b/c that is what Casey and Giggles died from. The vet was going to set his leg, but the bones where mush. He did a spinal tap and the cancer cells where multiplying under the scope. We just let him go w/o waking him up. greypuppyluv
We lost our whippet, Piper, to hemangiosarcoma. His was a different experience than most here.......he was able to deal with it for 2 years because it first appeared on his skin only. When it appeared internally was when we had to let him go. Prognosis for having it on the skin wasn't good either. It's just a nasty cancer period. My heart goes out to you. galgrey
I'm so sorry Beth is ill. I've lost two dogs (a greyhound and a weimaraner) to hemangiosarcoma. My greyhound, Chloe, showed no signs of illness until the cancer had already invaded her spleen, heart, and lungs. I took her to the emergency vet early on a Sunday morning because she was pacing and panting. After lots of inconclusive lab work the abdominal ultrasound showed all the tumors. Her heart was failing and she was beginning to bleed internally. She was 11. My weim, Hannah, was diagnosed early in her illness. She went in for a chest x-ray due to her history of heart problems (murmur) to see if her heart was enlarged. It wasn't, but the x-ray clearly showed a small tumor in one lung. Followup with the specialist revealed involvement of her spleen, heart, and one lung. They gave her 4 to 6 weeks, but she fooled everyone and lived another year before her heart gave out. You and Beth will be in my thoughts.
