Caesar just went though this in August. He had a pouch for about a week and it was no big deal, be he moved so much better after it was removed. You will be so glad you went through with this surgery because Willie's going to get back to his old self in no time. Are you going to do chemo also?

I believe we are. The oncologist has been in touch with Dr Couto and is willing to follow the osu protocol. I am also doing holistic treatment including antioxidants, salmon oil, high fat low carb diet. Did you do chemo? Did the pouch speed healing?

This is quite accurate. There will be no more pain for Willie. Don't look at it as he has no leg, instead he has no osteo!!

How wonderful

Correct :couchjump

Just check the antioxidants thingy because I seem to recall in my foggy brain that the antioxidants stuff shouldn't be done at the same time as the chemo. I'm not 100% on this but something tinkled in my brain when I read your post.

How long ago was your surgery?

5 years ago this week.

I'm so glad to hear Willie's surgery went well.

Ask the vet Onc. about the supplements. Most oncologists don't like their use, especially antioxidants, during chemo.

I thought I remembered reading Willie will be getting Adriamycin. One of my osteo. boys got Adriamycin and I had it myself. Alex's appetite was off and he was lethargic for a few days after it.

Here's a photo of Morgan a few days after he was home. He had less bruising than a lot of greys.

Ugh, I'm so sorry to hear of your osteo/amp diagnosis!!! It's a club I wish none of our pups had to join. We are about 2 weeks ahead of you and I've been documenting every day with what we went through. You can check it out here if you want the day-by-day breakdown.

I know it's hard. I'm still in that phase where I look at him and think, "I can't believe I let them cut off your leg." But then I know they also cut off so much pain. We are on our first round of chemo and I have a question in to the OSU docs about adding Artemisinin to his treatment. EDITED: I can't keep these med names straight!

Ranger has already taught me so much about courage. I kept expecting him to look for his lost limb, but instead he picked up the tripod hop in a flash. Only 2 weeks later and I'm still trying to slow him down on our trips outside. I have been so encouraged by all the fellow GTers who have been through this. My one huge suggestion would be to make sure he does not lick his incision. It is so much easier to control while he's "doped up." We tried all the collars and have finally reverted back to the standard plastic cone.

Big hugs to you and your Willie!!! :grouphug

We went to visit Willie at 10:00 this morning. He walked halfway to the visitation room but was carried the rest of the way. His was bright eyed and very aware of every noise he heard. He wanted to go home with us so badly. We took him his own food and he ate an entire can plus a bite of dry. He has a little bruising but no swelling. The suction bulb was 1/2 full with fluid and looks manageable. I know he will be so happy to get home and we will be glad to have him back. Cake (our sweet girl) is so depressed as well as my 4 yr old son. He has cried each time we bring up his name. Thanks for continued good thoughts.
