Remembering Sweet Things They Did...

I was doing laundry this morning, sheets, pillow cases & quilt. Every weekend I would strip the bed & wash everything, then usually got around to putting it all back together on the bed that night. Before I finished, and every thing was still warm...BuyCut would snuggle up under the quilt, then let out this huge sigh. I wondered out loud this morning...9 months after he left me...does he have warm sheets every night at the bridge.

I'd like to invite everyone to share something sweet about their angel.

I think the same thing about my Connie. She would only get up in the bed in the winter time. They she would lay down and have to be covered up with the blankie. She alway had to have her head on the pillow.

I was just reading Penny's tribute, and the description of her little stiff front leg hop reminded me of Sugar. She did the same thing when I came home, little stiff front legged bounces. I also miss seeing her sweet face peering at me through the curtains when I get out of the car.

Each one of our angels had something special that I always loved:

Ms. Dylan would dance in place and vibrate with joy when we called her. Lucy would run up to me when coming back from a walk as if to say "Here I am, I'm home" then chatter her teeth in excitement. Hobbes would nuzzle my hand, then quietly lean against me. He loved being tucked into his blanket and would give out a big sigh as he snuggled in.

There are so many more moments that I loved about them - just being with them was a joy. I will always cherish those times and really miss them. If only..........

I remember trying to teach Foxy not to jump up on me when I came home as he was really starting to hurt me with his nails. He learnt it pretty quick so instead of jumping up he'd do this little hop thing where his feet wouldn't come any higher than 2" off the ground until I bent down and pet him. I sure miss him - especially lately for some reason...

Right now, when you think of it, they are probably acting out those very things, to show the other kids over the bridge how special their people were.

Unforgettable puppers.

When I was looking for a picture for the "roaching" thread...I knew I'd have plenty of pictures of Snowy...that girl would rather roach than lay flat. I'll bet the clouds are made so everyone can do a perfect roach at the bridge.

That was her sweetest thing...she could have on her pearls, her maybelline eye liner & her polished toenails, but that girl was going to do her roach.

Loki died today.

He will never unmake my bed to his liking ever again...my sheets comforters and pillows will no longer serve as his bolsters at the foot of my bed.

My bed is so empty...

I sure do miss Argus.

Argus loved his floppy cow and his watermelon blankie.

SnugglingWithCowandBlanket.jpg

He was patient with Cha Cha, a 3-pound Chihuahua who desperately wanted to be his girlfriend and would chase Raven from the room in fits of jealousy. Note the long-suffering expression.

ArguswithChaCha.jpg

He loved being gussied up to go walk in the annual 4th of July parade as part of the greyhound contingent. Thousands of eyes on him and hands reaching out to pet him and fuss over him... just what he liked best. He could work a crowd like you wouldn't believe.

Snow meant big-time fun.

Suitcases were evil. They had to be emptied and dispatched with extreme prejudice.

He and Raven had quite a mind meld going on.

I used to leave the closet door open for John E in case he had a reason to go inside and hide. I still leave the door open.

Cherry used to play a game that she thought was great sport. If you left a chair, or a spot on the couch or bed, you would return to find her sitting, or laying, in that exact spot with a very smug expression on her face. She never tired of this game, but all she really wanted was for you to give her some loving. I sure do miss her.

Wow this topic really hits home today . Just today I was looking in Chance's ears and they were dirty so I had to clean them. Jeanie was the one who would always lick Chance's ears out and he loved it and she loved doing it . She loved to lick everyone especially Chance and the cats . I know he misses that and I miss her and her loving licks . :kiss2

If Goods blanket came off in the middle of the night he'd come to my bed and whimper soooooo softly to wake me up, it was almost like a soft "hey....hey Momma...wake up... my blankie came off...Momma...." He never woke Tim. I would get up, go tuck him in and that would be the last I heard from him for the night, unless of course the covers came off again :inlove

Fudgie was just a trip, my favorite thing he did was rooing. It didn't take much to get him to roo like crazy. I could only wonder what my neighbors thought, although I didn't care much because it was way too much fun :) Every now and again he would roo in his sleep... a big, loooong roo that woke everyone up but him :lol He was really a character of a dog!

ETA: Actually as I was looking at my post I looked at my siggy pic of them and that is a picture of Fudgie right before he started a roo. He got the craziest face, it cracked me up so I stared up a roo session and took a pic of him :inlove

When I had knee replacement 2 yrs ago, my friends came over & took care of the doggies for me. Every afternoon Hurricane came by at 3:30 before he went to work & he'd stir them up outside, chasing & playing. Dear & Pipi loved Hurricane...Pipi still follows him around when they're together. Well when I got home from recuperating, after PT...I'd come home & take a nap...but like clockwork, at 3:30 Dear would come to the bedroom door & whimper. I'd get up, hobble to the back door & let them outside. Dear would make a few laps around the back yard, then come inside...get on the couch & go back to sleep. Even last year when he got cancer, Dear still wanted to go outside at 3:30 & walk that lap.

Molly always had a stuffie in her mouth to great people. A stuffie always went to the back door with her for pottie time.

She never thought the cats were more than chin rests.

MollyGarf2000.jpg

My elderly and ill mother lived with us, Molly sensed she could not jump or be roudy around Mom.

She shared Mom's nightly ice cream with her.... always gentle. I imagine they are both at the bridge eating "creamy" everynight.

Every morning, Sir D escorted me to the kitchen so I would NOT forget to make hound breakfast first thing. (Actually, he velcroed himslef to my right hip as he guided me downthe hall!) He chattered to me every day, too. Funny, but I still feel him with me on the way to the kitchen......as though he watches down to make certain I feed the hounds firs tthing each morning. He'll always have special place in my heart.

That is a lovely thing.

I opened Katie's log this morning to see if I could remember the noise she used to make when she was sleeping. I can't 'hear it' in my head anymore. Found a note there and had described it as a 'snort.' How ladylike :) I had written it down at 2:41AM on 7/20 because I knew it might be the last one I got to hear. It was a deep contented noise. A cross between a snore and a burp. But mostly I miss the rooing and the murmured coos that she would use to make conversation with me even in her last days. Sick as she was, in her head she was still so happy, still living in the moment.

Mac would stand like a statue, letting all the young kids DRAPE themselves over him and whisper in his ear. Then he would nuzzle their cheeks and give them a small kiss as if to say, "Thank you." He loved all the small kids--he would even quietly greet toddlers in strollers without scaring them.

I'll miss the way he would stick his head in my armpit when he wanted some loving. And all his "sleep" sounds--the woofing and snorts.

As for warm sheets at the Bridge, they're probably mandatory. I can see Mac going from a sunbeam to a snuggly bed..(after he catches a few bunnies....)
