Guest HersheysMom
Good & bad news. I'll get the bad news out of the way first. Bad news - Hershey actually has type T-cell Large Granular Lymphoma which is very aggressive, also very rare (figures) The doctor has only seen 3 dogs with it and mostly cats. Prognosis was cut down to 1-2 months with treatment, though he has seen 4 months. It's just very resistant to chemo Good news is very good - ALL of his blood counts went way up between the first and second treatments and have remained that way between his second and third treatment. They are up to twice the amount considered safe to give chemo. This explains why he is seeming so much better! While the oncologist has made a few adjustments to the standard protocol to lessen tummy and liver problems, he has been able to get full doses of all of his treatments, and is tolerating the treatments well. In addition, while he was losing weight at a very consistent rate of 4 lbs per week for the past several weeks, he only lost 1/2 lb this past week. Hershey is doing much better at this point in the protocol than the majority of LGL cases the oncologist has treated! All we can do right now is focus on the fact that Hershey is doing much better right now. Of course I'm upset about the prognosis, but the plan is to continue with treatments as planned as long as he is doing well & enjoying life. Right now he is back to greeting me at the door, running (okay, jogging ) with his friends, and going for walks. He has been making his goodbye rounds and has a full social calendar this weekend. I am just so grateful for what I already consider to be this extra time with him. Will continue to keep you posted.

Yes, and I think it was due to a new supplement I gave him - he threw it up undigested. Won't be giving him that anymore. It was good to see some of you at the GAS reunion today! We'll be in Carlise tomorrow after the GA walk, around 11:30 for ice cream and to see everyone... Thanks everyone for their prayers and white light.
