On her birthday, little smelly belly anna belly went to the hospital never to come home. As I sat with her the last hour of her life today the thoughts of never looking in her eyes across the room and smiling and being rewarded with a wagging tail broke my heart. Of never being woke up with the barking play bow in the middle of the night for a late night potty break Or the warmth of her curling behind my legs as I slept. Those paws covering those eyes as she tried to sleep later while I prepared for work and wondering why did Mom turn that light on. Last night as I wandered around the house worried about my girl - the oddest things we do - I had for months wanted to get rid of my cookbooks in the kitchen - just more clutter - but never got around to it. Last night I did it. For reasons known to no one - I have a habit of sticking papers in the cookbooks - so I shook it out and a large piece of paper fell out. It was my fathers death certificate - then I noticed a smaller piece of paper. Picked it up and it was a note I had written Bob years ago thanking him for making my birthday the greatest - he wrote back on the note - Your welcome, you are the greatest. Yes it was Valentines Day. Dad and Bob both left in 2000 - the 2 most important men in my life. I felt today that something had both of them send me a message yesterday to let me know they would be there for Annabelle today. That even though they are no longer here - they still love and watch out for those I love.
