Guest greytbookert
Booker raced at Wonderland under the name Boonoonoonoos, which means "the very best" in Jamacian. He was the littermate of the famous Kid Creole. When he was retired, he was adopted right from the track to a family. Fast forward a few years.... Booker was surrendered to the Worcester Animal Rescue League in January 2002, where my DH worked. He called me immediately at work and said I had to come meet him. So being a sucker for the dogs at the shelter, I did and we brought him home that night. We had no experience with greys and knew that we needed help and advice, so we contacted Greysland and Robin Norton entered our life. The family that adopted Booker from the track, told WARL that he was 6 or 7 years old, not knowing how to read tattoos, we believed them, until Robin told us that he had just turned 10 years old! This news didn't make us rethink our decision, it strengthened the bond with Booker. How could they surrender him?! I am so glad they did, they obviously were not worthy of Booker! We bought him a coat, martingale collars, an LL Bean dog bed, a raised feeder and many other items all to put in our 1 bedroom townhouse that we shared with 4 cats! The next week we started looking for a house for him Within two months we bought Booker the ultimate dog house, our first house, a raised ranch nestled on a nice piece of property in a rual community, which we then fenced an area for him. Booker was a smiler and a roacher with gusto! you would never have guessed his age by watching him do his twirlies in the living room with his stuffies, chasing me around the house, and yelling at all the squirrels. He allowed us to adopt 3 more hounds and foster several others, without a complaint but he made sure that all the new ones knew that he was ALPHA and this was HIS house. As we watched him age, we were astounded with his good nature and his pure love for life. We knew he couldn't stay with us forever physically but he will live forever in our hearts. His picture was in the recent issue of CG magazine and you can only imagine how proud we were He was photographed by Amanda Jones but his photo didn't make it into the book, oh well. He graced the website of Greyhound Gang last year with his buddy, T. Every song that has the word boogie in it, is his song. His favorite toy was his duck... duck, duck! His favorite meal was well, anything but he loved his chicken necks, turkey necks, and most recently became a big fan of Stoneyfield Farms Yogurt smoothies. If it weren't for Booker, we would probably have never entered the wonderful world of greyhounds and our life would be much emptier without having met him. I will miss him every moment of every day but will remember the good times and hold those memories in front of the pain from missing him. People say that he was lucky to have a home like ours but WE were the lucky ones for having loved such a sweet man, my Boogie man. Play nice with all the other bridge kids... Guest greytbookert
Thank you for sharing and bringing a smile to my face. I recently met Robin, and can imagine what a wealth of greyhound knowledge she brought to you when you took this special boy into your home and hearts. 1760751[/snapback] Oh she really did share her wealth of knowledge with us. She was actually going to take Booker in from WARL but we brought him home before arrangements could be made Soon after we adopted Booker and bought him his house, DH started working for Robin in the kennel and let's just say that's when she worked her magic on making us a foster family, we flunked within a matter of minutes About two weeks after DH started working there, we fostered T and I flunked fostering as soon as I met him. By the end of the next year, we had 4 permanent hound residents and Booker greeted them all with a smile. He willingly shared his home with all the "special needs" hounds that walked through the door. Booker brought Robin into our lives and I am so thankful for that.
