  8. The ones who choke on dry food get it in water--a fair bit, although not actually floating--and the others get it dry. FWIW, only 2 of 5 (formerly 2 of 6) hounds get it dry. The poodles also get it dry. The water is added before any other supplements/meds, which takes a few minutes (especially in the morning), but the kibble doesn't really get soft.
  9. How incredibly sad. I'm so very sorry. Godspeed Jetlag.
  10. I'm so very very sorry. Hobbes waited a long time, then found the perfect home with you; he should have been able to stay much longer. Godspeed Hobbes.
  11. Yup. More distance. And, if she does start to go, turn your back to her. Also, some dogs don't like to go while off their own property. Sometimes both problems happen at once: Perry eventually got used to going in the yard on leash (I was teaching her to go in one spot), but was determined not to while on a walk. Then one day she couldn't hang on any longer when we were on a very busy street. She still prefers not to be watched, but she's quite happy to go during a walk. (Now she doesn't want to go in the yard, but that's a whole 'nother story.)
  12. I'm so very sorry. She was much too young and she did not get to spend nearly long enough in her perfect home with you. Godspeed Bea.
  13. I can't address your first question from experience because the poodles were here first. As for the second, the greys and the poodles do not usually play together, even when out in the yard at the same time. The Core Four (Perry, Minnie, Betsy, Edie) are out together, but play with me (retrieving). If Edie takes off and runs laps, Minnie now sits in front of me for treats--a behaviour we developed because I was worried about her nipping at Edie while chasing her (I didn't want to muzzle her because then she couldn't pick up her ball). I won't add a puppy of any breed to this crew because I don't want to deal with the management of a houseful of older girls (10 and 11) in the presence of a little monkey. But it is just that: a management issue. If you're willing to supervise constantly, intervene when necessary, and crate the puppy the rest of the time, it can be done. Several GTers have added puppies to an existing crew. I'm sure some of them will stop by and tell you about it.
  14. Other than poor Rufus waking up badly, it's a great report! I'm glad.
  15. Glad things have started well. that Whitey is one of the no-side-effects dogs.
