Checking in to see how the vet visit went .... I remember how frustrating it was when Rainy quit eating. Hopefully the vet was able to give him something to stimulate his appetite. They lose weight so fast when they quit eating .....

I echo what the others have said about telling the group you need a special hound for Therapy dog training. You need a dog that has never met a stranger! One that is not fearful of new places, sounds, people ... etc. When I adopted Gus last memorial day weekend I told the wonderful adoption group (Grateful Greyhounds) that had him that disposition was my #1 priority. I didn't care how many legs he had ... We took a basic obedience class over the summer and we tested and passed both his AKC Canine good citizen and his TDI Therapy Dog certification in October with ease. My Rainy was also a TDI therapy dog, so I have been doing therapy dog work for the past 5 years and had already trained one dog for this. When I lost Rainy to cancer in October, I tested with Gus two weeks later and got his certification in order, so I could continue the Therapy dog activities I enjoyed so much with her. I feel it is very important to be connected with TDI (Therapy Dogs International) or the Delta Society and be certified by a nationally known organization. The liability insurance they provide is required by many places where you will take your dog to work. We participate in the children's reading programs at the area libraries, do nursing home and hospice visits, stress relief for the athletes at the Special Olympics ... etc. We do all sorts of different Therapy dog activities and volunteer where ever we can spread a little Greyhound love around. If you have the right credentials and certification it will open the door for you and your dog to do so many more things. You are going to LOVE doing therapy dog work! It is so rewarding and such a good way to shine a positive light on the greyhound breed.

Checking on how your appointment went for Hero. Hoping it is just a pulled muscle .....

How wonderful you were able to reunite them! I love the idea of littermates getting back together to live their lives out in the same home. For three weeks we have been trying to line up to adopt Gus' sister once she retires, but we are having one heck of a time getting any of the people around her to respond to our inquiries. We may just have to wait and hope she shows up with an adoption group in Florida (she's 4 1/2 right now & still racing at Daytona) and pray we find her before someone else adopts her. I have a wonderful adoption group here in Michigan trying to help us, and even they can't get the local adoption agency to reply to their inquiry on her. I'm so happy for you (and the boys) that you were able to make this happen! ... and secretly I'm very envious!

Doc was a butt licker. Our dogs anal glands are checked and emptied (if needed) monthly at the groomers when they get their nails done. His almost never had much in them. Doc always had soft stools and so there was residue left behind after he did his duty. He was so very clean that he wanted to clean himself. We ended up keeping a box of tissues next to the door and after he would come in after pooing we would tell him to "present your buns', and he would turn and push his rear end toward us. We would lift his tail, wipe him off and he would happily trot off afterwards, no longer having an itchy butt. It just became part of our routine. It also stopped the butt licking in our house.

I agree to contact the group and request a dental for the dog. No adoption group would want to send a dog to their forever home with such advanced dental issues ..... (Not to mention how hard it will be to adopt out a dog that clears the room with his breath).

That was so very beautiful. I'm sitting here crying. I understand how their presence lingers, and the love remains in our hearts. We join you in your celebration of his life and morning his passing.

I can't help you with any ideas - but I can send you a hug and prayers for Ave.

Too many beautiful and special hounds have crossed the bridge this month. Gee was beautiful inside and out. Sending a hug to you at this difficult time. We are so very sorry for the loss of your Gee.

The bandana is still available - any takers? I know that there has to be someone out there that is actively training their greyhound to be a therapy dog right now ....

My Gus passed his TDI therapy dog testing last night. I have a like-new custom made bandana that is embroidered with "Therapy Dog in training" that I will give away to a greyhound that will use it to wear in public while you are training him/her. It is a turquiose blue with bold red lettering - it is an opposite color lay out of the official TDI bandanas. It closes with velcro and will fit most greyhounds. We would like to pass it on to a hound that can use it. This isn't a great picture of it on Gus - but was taken in June at the Special Olympics. Who would like it? I'll mail it free of charge to the first greytalker who replies to this posting that is starting their obedience training for therapy dog certification. Just post here then PM me your name and mailing address.

I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet Meadow. This has been a cruel month for too many of us.

Bee will be missed by many. Through your stories and wonderful photographs we all fell under her spell. I am sending a special hug to Murray, I worry about him missing his sister. Tricia and Burke, Our hearts go out to you. Know that we are sending you love and hugs. Miss Bee Wiseman will never be forgotten. Thanks you to all for your prayers, hugs and kind words. It's hard to believe she has been gone over a week now. Gus is adjusting to being an only hound. He has soaked up a lot of tears over the last week, and he really seems to know that our emotions are raw.

So sorry to hear it was Osteo. Damn cancer, it robs us of those we love the most. My Rainy left for the bridge on wednesday, and was there with a wagging tail to greet your Miss Meadow.
