  1. My two get them from time to time. Jake has a few now from scratching. I wonder if they are like a small bruise.
  2. Not much you can do. Just clean up right after they go. The faster you clean up the less likely they should get into the ground.
  3. It really depends on your area. We have a lot of ticks around here so I do Frontline from the spring until late fall. Knock on wood we have never had any issues with fleas.
  4. Carolina has pemphigus. Her nose peels a lot during the winter months. The vet looked at her nose and said pemphigus, no biopsy needed. She was given a topical cream and prescribed niacinimide. She was diagnosed in the winter of 2004-2005. She has no issues with breathing. We carefully check the other areas where skin meets fur (eyes, toes, mouth, girl plumbing, etc.), since if it was to spread that is where it would go to. Knock on wood we haven't had any other issues. Get a second opinion, I don't think a biopsy is necessary for a diagnoses. Niacinimide isn't going to hurt him, why not try and see what happens.
  5. I'm so sorry Patti and Fred. Run free Cody
  6. Lots of good thoughts and prayers on the way for Cody.
  7. From what I understand the oil on their skin helps to spread the Frontline around, so I think you need to wait a few day to apply if they just had a bath. I would apply the Frontline and get it over with. You can't bath her for at least two days after applying Frontline, it needs time to dry. If she does have fleas, they should start dying off right after applying Frontline.
  8. Talk to your vet about autoimmune problems. Carolina's nose peels like that too and she is on a B vitamin. This is the best picture that I have of Carolina's nose before treatment. Do a seach on here for peeling nose. You will find more posts about this.
  9. We've had tummy issues with Baytril. I hope Saide is feeling better really soon.
  10. Rabies every three years (required here) and DHLP every year, for now. Jake is seven and Carolina is five, when they get older they will only get rabies.
  11. Talk to your vet about when puppies should be vaccinated for everything. I understand about over vaccinating but I would go with the word of the vet.
  12. You did the right thing. Do her owners know when her colitis flares up? It can become an issue if they are stressed which is possible in this situation, a strange house, strange person taking care of her.
  13. She went to the vet this morning. The quick is right in line with the nail, so anytime she walks on concrete or a hard surface she scraps it. We were sent home with a small bottle of quick stop. Said there isn't much of anything else they can do. Will have to keep an eye on it and hope the nail will cover the quick eventually.
  14. At the start of February, Carolina broke her nail off in the yard. She went to the vet and he clipped it all the way back. The nail is finally starting to grow back in. The problem is that her quick is growing in faster then her nail, so there are little blood spots on the carpet. It isn't actively bleeding, more like oozing. Is there anything that I can do? Does she need to go back to the vet? Any advice would be helpful.
  15. Wonderful news on the x-ray! Pred is hit or miss on autoimmune. It really depends on the hound, some respond to it, other's don't.
  16. Carolina did the same thing last month. We couldn't get the bleeding to stop so we had to take her to the vet. Do anything you can get it to stop bleeding, if not you have no choice but to visit the e-vet.
  17. If you have any extra positive thoughts laying around, could you send some for Jake? He goes in for a dental tomorrow. His mouth is a mess, I don't even want to think about what they are going to find. Thanks in advance for the good thoughts.
  18. For a few weeks, Jake has had an itchy spot on the top of his back, right near his tail. He keeps digging at it, so he doesn't have any fur left on that spot. The skin in that spot looks fine, he does have a small red spot from digging at it. Does anybody have a clue what it might be? He goes in for a dental on Tuesday, is it worth talking to the vet about?
  19. The cone we have for Jake has these little clips and they put gauze though them so we tie the gauze around his neck so the cone doesn't go anywhere. Would that be an option in your case?
  20. OMG the poor baby boy! Many fast healing thoughts on the way for Bill.
