It is amazing how resilient these hounds are. I brought Jac-foo home about 1 hour after her surgery. She was still pretty out of it. But was glad to be with "family". She also bruised bad. Good luck. I often think when it comes to the kids and the hounds, sometime when we don't know any better things tend to go well! (and she went after her first bunny about 12 hours post-op. Something she had not been able to do with the "stick" of a leg sticking straight out before!)

Get some rest: hopefully things will look much better after the surgery.

Jax had one on her leg where they amputated. Wierd! Just one morning it was gone!!!

Looks to me to be more of a scrape. I would not try to stich. I have a firm and fast rule here with the dogs....I get them the same medical attention that my kids got. Dr. Mom is usually pretty good! I have seen only two things that I took them to the vet for and now next time I won't have to. Live and learn. And give yourself credit. Would you have gone to the DR for that on your toe? If the answer is yes, then take to the vet. My kids have few scars, but nothing serious!!!

I am no vet.....but when Cosmo hurt his paw, (large cut) and they wanted to put him under to stitch, I had to say no! (I thought it was over kill for the wound) I went to Wally world and got some of the baby socks and some of the medical paper tape. I put the sock over the paw (I think it was size 6 mth) after neosporin, (sp) taped the top on to the fur. The cotton let the wound breath and heal and kept it clean. I would change it once a day. The paper tape sticks but does not pull hair out when taking off. Anyway: After about 5 days it was all better! Without the stitches! We have to learn the cheapest and BEST way to handle the little boo boos. Again this is what I did. I did have the vets OK on this. We both know the problems with the greys and anesthetic and thought that this was a good choice.
