  1. Thanks. I think I’ll go with a group I got one from last. Not local, but at least they know me.
  2. I can attest to them forming a Coordinated pack of hunting. I had six here and we live on over 2 acres. In the middle of the desert. Lol. There are plenty of Cottontails and Jacks. They acted like they had meetings on who would do what. Add a Jack Russell in the mix to flush back out from under something...crazy to,watch. Tho mine where about 1/2 and 1/2 as to what they would do,if fought. Certain ones would eat and the others would bring to me. Sadly many times they would deposit a bloody mess on my carpet, that was new at the time. ***sigh***. I have re-fenced off even more sections so they only get into a larger section once in a while. Their “yard” is probably 120x25 so every once in a while they do get a bunny or a quail.
  3. Anyone know of any grey pups out there needing a home? Probably be my last grey, considering my age and our health. Would like a puppy. Been years since I had a grey pup of course. I had Jax and Kala at the same time. That was about 14 years ago.
  4. I use CBD oil in conjunction with meds for Yogi’s epilepsy.
  5. My Borzoi was two when I adopted her. Was still a bit of a handful. I have had two greyhound puppies. All I can say is I kept the doggie door so they could run at all times of the day. A tired puppy and all that. One time: we had just layed sod and planted two 6 ft trees. When my DH drove our property line to get to the driveway, there goes Jax, at 6 months old running down the fence with him carrying that dang 6ft tree in her mouth!!! Greyhound puppies.....land sharks are not for the faint of heart...__
  6. Aww...Kala Blu. A pup that made her debut in Greytalk early. Back then, puppies were still a novelty. She made her way here on the lap of a passenger on a greyhound haul to Phx., from OK. Met them in a parking lot off the I-40. She was adorable. First land shark for us... never forget the time I get home from work and she chewed a huge hole in DH brand new leather recliner. Pulled the stuffing out like it was a prize and put it all over! Lol. She was an exemplary companion. Was always a mamas girl. Won a talent show at the age of 10 weeks because she could already sit, shake and lay down. She is the last of the Original Grey Acres Gang. I have had a few weeks to come to terms with this. I told her how much I loved her, as she went to the bridge. Im sure she was meet at the bridge by her brothers and sisters. Its hard to explain... the night before I made the decision, I truly felt my bed slightly moving, a small dog was walking on my bed. Mine were tucked in, under the covers. After I made the decision, I felt that was Precious coming to take her.... I love you, Kala Boo Baby.... run painless and free sweet girl....
  7. My yorkie 6# got Kalas 25 mg Proin. Its been 7 hours...how long until effects pass? Vet?
  8. I am always within eye sight of my dogs. All of them. When I walk thru the house people laugh because Im the Pied Piper of dogs. Theres 6-8 on my heals any given moment. Two are my sisters dogs and sometimes they follow the pack. ETA: and I love it. Im never alone.
  9. Well if nothing else, like an owner comes looking or sees a posting...I’ll know in a few months if she has a cycle. Still no reason for the fight/roughhousing “flaging” though. Weird. Just weird.
  10. I did take her for shots since she was around my dogs. The Vet said she could see the scar from her spay.
  11. I hope I can explain this right. Thinking someone dropped a cute little Chi on our doorstep. Looked all over for flyers, called animal control, posted on many many local pets pages. No luck finding her home... very sad. Anyway, as she is playing, finding her place in this managerie she flags when fighting, playing... I am saying Flaging because it is totally like when a bitch is in heat and flaging the male. I have never seen this before and not sure how to address it, even if I should. Thoughts and opinions? Thanks.
  12. Thanks Nicky604. I have him back down to the 75mg of Pheno and .5 of the T4 meds. I also started him on CBD. So far so good. Though it took a full week to act even close to his old self, but still off. Thanks everyone. Appreciate all the help and advice.
  13. I’ll be real honest here. It’s crazy the way most Vets are charging. I have thought that the estimate I was given from a cheap clinic was crazy. $125 for bloodwork. Then if all is well, $500. I think I could load up all the dogs that needs dental, and drive the 1200 miles in the truck that gets crappy gas mileage and get all three done way cheaper than here. It sucks.
  14. Good idea. I will ask about that. Thanks for the ideas and hugs and all that this has truly been a heartbreaking road that we are on. He’s still kinda out of it; I’m sure from all the diazepam. Poor guy. He finally ate a bit. Going outside on his own. Still acts afraid of me...shot, who wouldn’t be after all this. **tear tear**
  15. Thank you everyone. I will check into the CBD. I will also check into a Nero. Just scary to even think of that cost and drive. This was a known issue with this Dog, as far as I can tell from reading vet paperwork yet I wasnt warned at all that he would be special needs. I would have been able to decide if this was something I could afford, at the onset. Im going to call, and price a Nero in Vegas now just to see about an initial consolidation... He did have another seizure about 11pm. Three more Diazepam. A single swipe of a dot of cannibus oil... Today totally out of it. No appetite. Had to force the three pills down him. Now when I go to help him inside he kinda runs from me... THIS IS BREAKING MY HEART AND ALSO ME IM AFRAID..... Just looked. The closest Nero is in Phx. Minimum of 5 hours away. Depends on what side of Phx...
  16. Ok. Yogi is a bit settled and stable. We don’t even have an ER vet close to us. I would have to take him to Las Vegas , NV that’s 2-2.5 hours away. With the animal situation the way it is, I would have to take him alone, and I really can’t think of much worse than driving alone to a unknown city with a dog that keeps having grand mal seizures. We also don’t even have a Nero here. That would be Phx I think. Which is 3.5-4 hours away. The dosages have been changed as of today. The blood work showed that the pheno and the Levothyroxine were both at the very minimum border for therapeutic levels. New dosage is 75 mg of the pheno, 2x a day. The Levothyroxine .5 mg 2x a day. The Diazepam was 70 mg at the onset or the first possible sign of seizure. I was given 10mg tabs. I thought that 7 was way to many. Possible misprint. So I started with 3, (because I couldn’t get ahold of vet), but three did nothing. So I did the rest. Still seemed to out of it, possible seizure activity....the starting signs. I went ahead and gave two drops of the cannibus oil on my finger (one drop 2x because 1 didn’t seem to work so I did a second) I rubbed that on the roof of his mouth. Sorry,he’s 75#. Last seizure was about 430 or 5 pm. About 2 hours ago now. I’m more worried about the quality of life. It’s so SCAREY. Thanks everyone. We are taking one day at a time...for now....
  17. Thanks everyone totally forgot about ice. Will get a bag ready in the freezer. Thank you. He’s stable right now. I’ll be honest, I gave him a bit of medical grade cannibus oil. Just a swipe on my finger tip to the roof of his mouth. This is so horrible. He had a vet appt that we had just gotten back from when they started again. Finally had suppositorys to give. His meds have been increased. So we recheck in two weeks.
  18. So Yogi is diagnosed with Epilepsy. Hes having a cluster of grand meal seizures right now. I have given 80 mg of diazepam. Still having seizures. Has anyone tried the cannabis oil? How about CBD? Help..... I am freaking. His are GRAND MAL. OMG.... This has been going on for a month. Just got new dosage of meds today.... This is terrifying
  19. Way back when, my group keep two dogs for us about two weeks. It was a bit of a drive and wanted to take vacation with them to get settled. We gave extra $$ to cover the added expense.
  20. Hey Aaron. I,just tried to sent you a PM but said you couldn’t receive messages. I was just asking about you...not even a week ago. Hope all is well. Send me a message so I can find you on FB.
  21. Yogi (he was kinda a bounce that we adopted in July. Lady had some severe mental health issues and he wasnt really being properly cared for...) Anyway, on Wednesday November 1, starting at about midnight ( Tuesday night) Yogi had a small cluster of grand mal seizures. Seizures like I have never seen before. Started around 12:15 am and last one was about 5 am. He had three that seemed to last forever. Though in reality they were probably only 3 or so minutes. I was able to call our clinic just because they are the ones that have treated my dogs the last few years. Thankfully had really only needed shots after Cosmo with his Valley Fever and Angel with her T4 seizures. Went to our appointment Thursday afternoon. He was on a 6 hour fast. When we first started talking I said that I wanted the blood sent out because I was worried about the T4 levels since I had a grey in the past that had the petite mal seizures from T4 issues and wanted a good measure. I knew that 7-8 years ago when I was watching her levels they had only one facility that could test Greyhounds T4. First she says there is no scientific proof that T4 levels will cause seizures. When I explained that I had a grey...blah blah, she stated that it has been known to help....even though there is no proof. After waiting forever for the first basic results, there was nothing outstanding about his blood. She highly doubted that T4 was going to be off, so wanted to start on Phenobarbital, retest in two weeks to check levels. Have am pill in system 5 hours for testat the retest. They would call Friday with the first test results. Finally after 2 calls, I get someone to call me back. Low and behold, his T4 is off. He is hypo..(?). They claim that they went over this with me on Thursday. Ummm...no. When I questioned I just kept getting weird answers. Like they had been over this with me before and Im being psycho mom... Anyway keep my two week appt then we can see about transitioning to (Cant remember) medication. I am not having a lot of good feelings about this. Wth? I understand they are a low cost shot clinic, and they are busy, but I didnt get a load of confidence from all this. They are also full service vet. Yogi is also a little more aggressive right now. Since starting the Phenobarbital. Not really sleep startle, where I might pet him and he freaks out during sleep. But like he is fighting in his sleep and wakes himself up growling and snarling and barking. Any ideas about being on this Phenobarbital for 2 weeks and then transitioning? Im just so confused. For those that dont know, I live VERY RURAL. City is 40 minutes away. Las Vegas is the closest major city. Different state, and about 1 hour 30 minutes away. I have to go to My city Wednesday for my Dr appt. I may see if vet will talk to me. I will hopefully get a chance to stop by and get copy of blood work if nothing else. ***i did find in with a bunch of Yogis papers that he has history of seizures. I was just never told. Not sure the very small group knew since this was a fast fast adoption. Hate to say ...get outta town...type fast but kinda was. ***sigh again***
  22. I'm so sorry. I cried reading your post. I still hurt so much from the loss of my heart, Domino, my Noserboy...many hugs to you and your DH....
  23. You have been given some great advice. Nothing says good puppy better than tired puppy. I was overwhelmed with my first grey pup. Kala. And I had surgery when Bennny was only a year old. So I layed in bed and had him chase a red laser light. Best I could do after my back surgeries. But it worked and he got tired! Agree with the training also. They say like 3 minutes several times a day. I taught recall with leashes clipped together and pulled them back to me, gently, saying come or here. What ever your word of choice. They will pick up other words as long as you talk to them just as you did your kids. Tiring as hell....that's for sure. I'm not sure I could do it. I want to get another JR since I lost my very special Precious. She was so special. But am waiting cuz I just don't know if I have it in me. Take a deep breath, breath, and breath some more. OHHH! I used a pack and playpen for my yorkie. Worked like a charm but he was and still is tiny... {{{hugs}}} and the light is there...just a while away....
  24. So many different ideas. Cosmo had valley fever and he LOVED his pill coated in butter! For Kala Blu...I keep a can of dog food to hide her pills in. She gets morning and bedtime "bites".
