I am so sorry. No real advice, but to say that Jac-foo lost her leg very early. The first surgery was unable to repair the "growth plate" so after her first surgery didn't do what we wanted, she ended up losing her leg. We brought her home right after surgery, which was a 5 hour drive. It was about 1am when we got home, she peed and went to bed. That morning at about 9am she was out chasing her first bunny: before I could stop her. They recover so fast at this tender young age. Don't worry at all about himwithout a leg. They recoup so fast. DH was adament that we would not "let" her be miserable with only three legs. Boy did he learn a thing or two. That is his heart dog. for the hurt baby... for Mom and Dad...

Since we are talking about "First aid bags" can someone explane the difference: amoxicillin vs. penicillin **just in case someone like AJ answers..very simple terms please (not compound difference please)**

Altho Jack-fooy never really had use of her (back) leg. She was up and chasing a bunny the day after her surgery. She was extatic to have that "stick" out of the way. Don't pamper them to much. You would be suprised how strong they are. Give Cosmo a chance to tell you what she wants to do. If she walks on lead, and only goes about 4 houses then you know. But again, this was the rear leg. I am sure that it was *easier* to adjust. to you... on the nose to the baby...

I have heard of this. Is it OTC?

I have one of each...both girls: so I am not sure if it is the same. I had also heard that they will stay smaller if spayed/neutered early. Kala Blu is a tiny dainty thing. I think tho with the face she has, this the way she is/was ment to be. Jac-fooy is a huge girl. Around 80# deep..deep..chest. The three legs she has are as big and buff as the ex-racers. Both were done at the 6 month mark. The Pres of GPA was a track vet for 17-18 years and she asked that we wait until the 6 month mark. I hope that this helps.

She had been doing wonderful ever since we got her on her meds..LEVOTHYROXINE 0.7 mg 2X a day. It is used to treat low thyroid activity. (3 years) She is doing fine. I notice her; at times moving slow; but that is to be expected. Everything else is great! She runs when it rains and still screams at the rain..in love She is due for her blood work, and I started wondering if I should get a senior panel? I am one that seems to think that she is not showing any problems...so do I worry about it yet? She gets them every 6-7 months..Now or later? Wait for a problem to show up??? Thanks..

What I was told about the vaccine is that it just buys you time to get to the vet. The dog will still need to be seen and or treated. Here it is about $25 at the clinic. The snake we have to worry about is the Mohave Green and tho it is a rattlesnake it is to potent for the vaccine to help. All the class is, is learning negative reaction to the rattle sound. He will shake a rattlesnake tail and use a shock at the same time. After a while the dog will learn that the rattle "hurts" and will get away. (this is a very basic synopsis of the class).

Well it is just as hot here in Golden Valley and I mow all the time. I use a gas mower and do not leave the clippings for mulch. I have when the dogs bring it in the house. I have a motto...You do what you gotta do.... I would love to have a service and a house cleaning service..but there is no way we can afford it.

Angel, who is the pack leader is the one that has seizures. I have said it before and I will say it again. I am VERY GRATEFUL for the pack I have. When Angel has a seizure, Darby will come and get me and the others just kinda watch. But...I know how the mentality can change at any given time, so if I am leaving for even a minute they are all muzzled: and the littles are crated. At night they all sleep in my bedroom so I think I would hear is something happened. Please don't ever forget muzzles are our friends. Hugs to you and the hounds.

I think it is one of those things where you will get a different answer everywhere/anyone you ask. Kinda like the vaccines. I had all the pups here altered at the 6 month birthday. Max does not life his leg to this day and I am really happy about that: as I have two markers anyway. The girls, Kala and Jax both look like normal Greyhounds to me. Kala is a danty little thing, Jax is a big girl. I am of the "school of thought" that the sooner the better. But like you I am not an expert.

I think I took out Jax's stiches. I take all the stiches and staples out. I live 45 miles away from the vet: so anything I can do on my own I will do! Jax was never a licker: But Boo Boo is. I have always let them lick for the most part. They seem to know what they are doing. If it looks like they are starting to do some damage, I will put a shirt or something on them. Don't worry to much. I think pink is probably good: red would be bad. JMHO

Just a FYI, the PAPER tape is WONDERFUL! ( It think mead makes some but what I have on hand is gentle tape fome nexcare) Will not stick to the fur but sticks LOL...I used it for Jax after her surgery....always have a few of those on hand...

It is absolutely amazing how great these dogs are. I brought Jax home with in hours or her surgery, **we were in from out of town so there were extenuating circumstances.** and the next morning she was able to chase a bunny with the "big guys" for the first time. Good luck and I know everything will be fine.

The only way that I can do Jax's and Kala's nails: Have my son grab her around the legs and pick up. I then am able to dremmel or clip. Sure beats the vet prices. Having her in the air does wonders. I read that from a greyhound farm post.
