  1. Welcome to GT unmasked She's a beautiful girl. Our doberman willingly answers to Dumb Dumb.
  2. I would also try to work with a neighbor with a confident puppy/dog and head out together for short potty walks so Ollie sees another dog not react to the noises.
  3. Backs up what I have seen with my own dogs. And when searching for a puppy food, there were so many good quality foods that were lamb based, so I passed. I've never had good luck with any of my dogs and lamb, so now we just don't even bother trying it. The greys weren't great with chicken either - beef or fish is what we have fed since I tried a raw diet with Jet and Ryan years ago to figure out what foods they had issues with.
  4. I donated Ryan's meds to one of the local shelters. I asked if they could use it and they said they were very happy to take it off my hands.
  5. I had 2 greyhounds, one would have been perfect for your mom, the other perfect for you. The one that was more than content to stay home was also the one that would go anywhere and walk/hike as far as I wanted as long as he was next to me. Ours always did things together with us. While Jet was happy as an only dog, Ryan needed a pal to be around or he was not a happy camper. So yes, you'll find dogs that meet both your needs. If you want 2 dogs, get 2 together. There may be a pair that was returned that have bonded that the group would like to stay together or you find 2 separate ones that fit your needs that work well together.
  6. First - he's no longer allowed on your bed. And I'd even suggest that he's no longer allowed on any other furniture either. Then start working on training. I would suggest you do the training and your husband backs it up.
  7. It's been a week. Everything is new and likely exciting to this dog, unless he was already in a home before you adopted him. Milkbones are not a high value treat for most dogs. Half the shelter dogs just take them and then put it on the ground when the shelter worker isn't looking Cut up some hotdogs and put them in a bag in your pocket. Try dried liver pieces. Try things that are easy to smell to get his attention. Change things up on your walk. Change sides of the road back and forth. Go back toward the house and then go back the other way again. Keep him on his toes so he doesn't know what you will do next. Since you can't be late for work, before work just walk around the yard for a while or back and forth in front of the house. Lunch break walk around the yard. Play in the house to wear off some energy though if you can't walk for a while in the mornings. After work, work on walking. Back and forth by the house, a little further each time before turning. If you know anybody near you that also has a dog, walk with them and maybe it will help him be willing to head back to the house. Pop him in the car and go somewhere to walk where you might be able to walk past your car a few times. A week isn't long. For many, it isn't enough time for them to figure out who you are and get comfortable in their new routine.
  8. Jet used to go to the stuffie aisle and grab a toy and then fling it, often times to the next aisle over. If there were people around, they loved it! Kiska went to the petstores last weekend to meet people and dogs and he decided to grab a stuffie off the shelf and then hop up on the shelf and curl up with the rest of the stuffies while he squeaked on the one he snagged

    Birdie

Oh Liz, I'm so sorry. My thoughts to you and Bill.
  11. Last few days to sign up. Also check OT for Wendy's card exchange signup info.
  12. You have just over a week left to get signed up for Secret Santa. Details in the secret santa forum
  13. Tavarish would just take matters into his own hands....
  14. Yep, inside vs outside are 2 entirely different things. My Jet and Ryan were fine with a gpig and bunny inside, but outside, they caught baby squirrels and Ryan snagged himself a bunny. It would never have crossed their mind to catch them if they were inside... or if it did, they wouldn't act on it
  15. All of my dogs have quickly learned "Stop licking" Doesn't mean they don't do it and wake you up in the process, but as soon as they are told to stop, they immediately stop and go back to sleep. What is your night time routine? I toss and turn all night so I expect many others, including the dogs, do the same. As they say, a tired dog is a good dog. If you aren't already, do a walk a little before bed, play in the yard, play in the house. Mentally and physically tired your dog out and that should help with some of the fidgeting at night. They have been using ear plugs.
  16. Sometimes grainfree food is just too much for dogs. Neither Jet or Ryan ever had solid poops on a grain free food. So yes, it could be the food
  17. Catch up with some of the greyhound owners in the neighborhood and walk with them. If he's around other confident greyhounds, he may get over his fears a bit easier. Head out somewhere this weekend where it is quieter and less busy and walk with him so he gets a good experience without it being all crazy.
  18. I updated this list again this evening, as you can tell, it is a much shorter list. If you haven't been on GreyTalk in over 6 months, you were removed.. I also went through all the names, if it didn't exist, I removed it. If you have changed your username since you were added to the list and that old username doesn't exist anymore... the listing went away. Please check the list to make sure the info for you is correct - name, website, category
  19. If you are in the US, a pet store is not working with reputable breeders as reputable breeders typically have homes lined up for their puppies in advance and wouldn't be using a pet store to sell them.
  20. How big are these bowls of water? Depending on size, 2-3 bowls of water every day is extremely excessive. Peeing 5-6 times on a walk means she may not always empty her bladder when you tell her to pee, so she still needs to go again after you leave. Do a vet check and bring in a fresh morning sample of urine when you bring her in. Maybe also consider a dog door into your yard. If she knows she needs to potty outside, she may well be happy to go out and potty while you are gone when the need arises.
  21. My Jet was 14 when she jumped off the couch and broke her leg. Xray wasn't super clear that it was osteo. Did a quick lung xray which confirmed it had moved. Short of the screaming when she broke her leg, she was never ready to go. The girl was tearing around the garden chasing our great dane earlier that day. Personally, I'm glad she broke it inside while we were with her. I can't imagine what it would have been like had she been out in our yard while we were out and she broke it then. If that bone is already moth eaten, she will break the bone given the time. The question is if you want to amputate, wait until she breaks it or take a few days and then let her go. That's entirely a personal decision. If you decide to wait or amp, you will want more pain meds. Osteo is painful. And if you aren't going to amp, you don't have to worry about the long term side effects. good luck making your decision
  22. There will be 2 calendars, one through MyCanvas and one through Walmart The MyCanvas one is ready to order. I still have to create the Walmart one - it will likely have some differences when I make it The walmart one is now ready as well. There are threads for each place to order in the Calendar forum
  23. Ok, in years past, we have done MyCanvas for calendars. Beautiful quality calendars. I spent about 30 mins tonight looking for another option again before I started getting too much into creating the 2016 calendar. Most other places were similar in price to MyCanvas without the benefits of what I can do with the layouts. But, Walmart has made some changes to their calendars. So here is the option and where you all come in to make a decision on this. Walmart or MyCanvas MyCanvas we have used them since I started doing the calendar and they are beautiful calendars they don't ship to Canada calendar is 19.95, but you can often find a 20% off coupon shipping is $$ (shipping to AL is almost $10) the image below is a sample of the images for the month - notice the black background covers the entire page Walmart I have not made a calendar with Walmart, so no clue of the quality of paper the calendar is printed on - if anybody has, I'd like to hear from you if there is a walmart near you, you can pick up locally or have them ship to you directly calendar is $12 shipping seems to be free for in store printing, ship to store and even ship to home the image below is a sample of a cover (not the cover photo, i just stuck one in as a sample - I can't get the text where I normally put it) - notice where the black background extends to I haven't ordered a calendar since the 2013 one, so I will leave this up to you all. I've stuck with MyCanvas due to what they allow me to do with layouts and the quality of the calendar. But now there is a cheaper option where I still have layout options and the ability to put images in the dates. But I have no clue of the quality
  24. potatoes, oatmeal and pasta (if your dog is ok with wheat) are also other things you can use in a bland diet. Neither Jet or Ryan could do lamb or chicken. They were fine with beef and fish. Ryan also couldn't have wheat. If all testing at the vet has come back negative, start with the food. Good luck, been there, it sucks!
  25. last call for calendar pics, I'll likely start working on it through this week. Keep posting until the thread for the month closes.
