  1. He gets 2 50mg in the morning and 2 at night. I have been giving him 1 in the afternoon if he seems uncomfortable.
  2. We were not able to get to the vet today to pick up Logan's refill. I was prescribed Tramadol for my pinched nerve last month. It's the same mg, so is it ok to give him?????
  3. Sorry, this is going to be long. I first noticed a problem with Gypsy's right eye in late August or early September. I took her to the vet and he gave me eyedrops and told me to keep a close eye on the situation and come back if it did not improve within a few days. As it turned out, it got worse so we went back and were given different drops that helped immediately. Her eye looked great as long as she was on the drops, as soon as we stopped, her eye would look worse. This went on for about a month and a half. I did some research and suspected we may be dealing with Pannus. When Gypsy cut her foot and went to the vet for stitches I brought this up to the vet and he told me that he had also suspected Pannus. (why he never mentioned this to me is beyond me.) So fast forward to mid December when we saw the opthamologist who started her on Tacrolimus. The opthamologist informed us that she had it in both eyes which came as a surprise because I never saw a problem in her left eye. We began the drops twice a day and immediately her left eye became irritated and watered constantly, I contacted the Dr and was told to give it time. We gave it several weeks and on December 30th, the day we found out about Logans cancer, this is what her eye looked like. Unfortunately, the opthamologist's office was closed for the holiday, so I quit putting the drops in that eye. I contacted the Dr's office as soon as they opened and talked to the Dr. She does not believe that it is a reaction to the drops because if it were, she would have a reaction in both eyes. I began putting the drops in her eye again, but dropped it down to once a day as prescribed. Her eye has not been watering like before until yesterday. She is also pawing at her eye. She holds it almost closed most of time as well. So, here's my question. Can the snow we got be causing this reaction? Keep in mind that her right eye does not seem to be affected by the snow or the drops.
  4. Sorry for not posting any updates but I have a pinched nerve in my neck and sitting at the computer really aggravates it. We finally found a way to get Logan to eat......give him anything and everything he wants. He and Gypsy have been eating like royalty. DH will make eggs for everybody on the weekends and he makes hamburger and rice for his kibble in the evenings. Really, as long as he is eating, I don't care what we have to make. We have doubled his pain meds and it seems to be making him a little more comfortable. He sleeps more but also seems more animated when he's awake. I have been taking lots of pics and videos (don't know how to post videos yet) and spending a lot of time curled up on the floor with him. Here is how he spent New Years day. Making sure the back yard is safe from squirrels Making sure the front yard is safe from squirrels Resting up after all that guard duty
  5. I am so sorry. I hate the way cancer just sneaks up on them.
  6. I am so sorry, find peace in the fact that she is no longer in pain.
  7. We saw the specialist today and it's not his leg at all. It is a very well developed tumor. He suspected cancer right after his initial exam. We consented to another X-ray and the mass was visible. We didn't want to believe our eyes so we had an ultrasound done to be sure. It is very near his spine and the doctor figures that the tumor is pressing against the nerves that travel down his leg. This also explains his lack of appetite. We had ourselves convinced that the appetite was due to the meds. Talk about being blindsided, we never saw this coming. We have precious little time left with him. I know on the inside that it is best to let him go two days too soon than one day too late, but right know I just want to hug and cuddle him.
  8. I'm in the same boat right now with Logan. Good Luck finding something that will entice him to eat and not upset the tummy.
  9. He still wasn't eating Sunday morning, so we brought home a cheese omelette to try and entice him to eat. We chopped it up and added it to a little kibble and he was very, very interested. However, when he sniffed it he turned away. I could tell he wants to eat but the smell just turns his stomach. We gave him a Pepcid around 11:00 and then cooked up some ground beef and rice. Around noon he finally ate. We quit giving him the Rimadyl and talked to the vet today. We are going to call the orthopedic specialist tomorrow. It's funny now that I know it's his knee, it seems obvious. Here is a pic of DH and Logan napping together yesterday. Notice how he pulls his leg up tight even when he's sleeping.
  10. Logan has been on Rimadyl for 3 days and now he is on a hunger strike. He barely ate any dinner last night and wouldn't eat any breakfast. He is supposed to take the Rimadyl with food so this morning I broke up a dinner roll and spead some peanut butter on it just so he would have something in his belly. He has thrown up a frothy yellow liquid 3 times so far this morning. Any ideas?
  11. I haven't posted much about Logan and his back leg so here are the highlights. For years Logan has limped on his left hind leg. He has corns and there was not much we could do. He has therapaw booties and uses them whenever we go to M&G's and the like. However, for the last 3 or 4 months he has started to tripod more and limp less. I spoke to my vet about it and he advised that we would need to get some X-rays just to determine if there is more to it than just the corns. With all the money going out with Gypsy, we couldn't afford to take Logan in at the time. We discussed giving him some daily pain meds, I was concerned about long term use and destroying his liver. We started him on Tramadol to take the edge off the pain and he has been less grumpy. He has been using his leg less and less and has fallen twice in the last few weeks, so we finally made the appt. DH and I were pretty sure the problem was in his hip and the vet seemed to agree after manipulating the leg. However, the X-rays show his hips to be in perfect condition. It turns out the area of concern is in his knee. There was no evidence of cancer (whew) and no arthritis but the belief is that there is ligament damage. We are putting him on Rimadyl for the next 10 days to see if there is any improvement. Our next step will be to see a specialist. 2008 just hasn't been our year!
  12. I'm so sorry, I hope you have many more happy days together.
  13. That was a lovely tribute and that last picture is breathtaking.
  14. We went to the opthamologist on Thursday for confirmation. She has it in both eyes, which was a surprise, I only noticed it in her right eye. She is on Tacrolimus twice a day. She paws at her eyes after I put in her drops and her left eye tears up for a couple of hours after. Is this normal?
  15. The sun just came out from behind a cloud as I read this. I just know that Gino was waiting to greet Speck as he crossed. Prayers for you and Chrissy.
  16. I am so sorry I hope it is a comfort knowing that Andy and Emmy are together again.
  17. Judy, I am so sorry to you, Mike and the pack.
  18. Last night my Mom dropped off her dog while she went to run a few errands before coming back to play our weekly game of scrabble. Since it was a beautiful night I decided to let all 3 out in the back yard to run around and wear each other out. My DH had just let them out the back door and I went out through the garage to get something out of the car. As soon as I rounded the corner I heard the crash. I look over and see my Bougainvilla on the ground. I immediately start hollering about who knocked over my plant and Logan is frozen with a look of terror on his face. I know better than to think he knocked it over because he doesn't run with his achy feet. So it had to be one of the girls. Of course, right now I am only interested in saving my plant. As I set up the plant stand my DH says to look at the stand, one of the legs is bent completely out in a bow. Still, I am only thinking about the plant. I get everything all replanted and cleaned up and it finally dawns on me that someone had to hit that stand pretty hard. I look over at Gypsy and her back leg has about a 1 1/2" gash that is wide open. I take her inside to check her out, in addition to the gash, she has a puncture wound and the inside of her thigh is scraped up pretty bad. Off to the E-vet we go. The E-vet looks her over and says she needs a few stitches but it is not an emergency. We decide to wait until morning when we can get her into our regular vet. She had a rough night because her leg was starting to swell and the brusing was taking over her thigh. She is at the vet now, we will pick her up in about an hour. I will post pics once I get her home and settled. Hopefully, she will feel better in time to charm everyone at the Bluegrass Festival. The boo boo The inside of her thigh After being stitched up Logan sure is happy to have her back home
