  1. I am so sorry, Jilly Bean will be missed by all.
  2. Slick is doing great, he started walking on the foot last Tuesday. We went to the vet yesterday and he got the wrap removed, the vet says everything looks greyt and I agree. The vet was able to save the pad so he will have protection. He still has a good deal of swelling but he is walking and playing on it.
  3. I got a look at his toe last night at the vets, from what I could see it looks really good. The vet checked for any signs of infection and said all looked as it should. He only squealed once as she was cleaning the area before rewrapping it. He still doesn't want to put any weight on it, but he normally won't walk on the foot when it's wrapped. We go back again on Friday to remove the stitches.
  4. Slick slept well last night, a lot better than me. It was a rainy day here so we all napped the day away. Unfortunately, the big D that we were battling last weekend is back. Going outside seems to wear him out and he pants for a while after coming in. He was very excited at dinner and bounced around like normal. All in all, he seems to be doing really well. We go back to the vet on Monday for a check and then again on Friday to remove the stitches.
  5. I had a message from the vet by the time I got to work this morning. She said that she had looked at his foot and it didn't look that bad, maybe we just needed to give it more time. I thought oh no, I've taken this long to talk myself into the amputation and now the vet is saying we need more time???? We talked and she agreed with his history that the amp was the correct action to take. Of course, after we hung up I called my DH to reassure me that we were doing the right thing. We picked him up tonight and the vet said that once she got in there she could see that the inside of his toe was shredded. It was being held on by one lone tendon. That made us feel so good about making the call to amputate. He is doing real good, ate a good dinner and is mostly sleeping, not bothering his foot at all. The vet gave him a very timely wrap......
  6. We finally pulled the trigger and made the appointment. Since June 1st we have been dealing with a cut that just would not heal. After 5 months of leash walking, the poor boy has lost so much muscle tone from not running and playing. We just feel that it is not fair to him to continue trying to save the toe. After reading the devastating post about Rogan and his amputations I took the extra precaution and painted his toe nail with a pretty purple sparkle nail polish. So please say a quick prayer that all goes well today and my boy heals this time.
  7. Thanks for the advice. I read through some old posts and tried some Quaker oats this morning and went out and bought some Imodium ad. Do you give them the child's dosage of Imodium? Time4Anap: we have had Slick for almost a year, wormed him 3 times in the first few months, tests always came back negative but we had to try everything. His last stool was soft so we are headed in the right direction.
  8. Slick has had issues with soft stool and diarrhea since we brought him home. Our vet is working with us however, with his toe taking all the attention we have moved it to the back burner. This past week his poo has been getting worse by the day. Friday when I came home from work he had actually lost a little control. There were drips of poo from the living room to the kitchen where he greeted me. I took him out and he had the squirts. That night we fed him only boiled chicken and rice. Saturday he got chicken and rice for breakfast and dinner. At 4 am I woke up to his belly squealing, the only way I can describe his poo is to say projectile diarrhea. He seems to feel ok, his nose is cold and wet. What else should I do?
  9. Sending prayers for Bullitt. I know how long the hours are when one of the 'kids' is not at home. Hoping they find the trouble and can treat with meds.
  10. You are dealing with too much already, sending prayers that everything goes well for Joey and Pistol.
  11. I read this at work on Friday and was sick to my stomach. We are in the same situation that you were in before the surgery. We have been dealing with a toe issue since June 1st. Slick has now been under anesthesia 3 times to close the wound, our next option is amputation. I saw your post and figured I would see how well Rogan did and it would make me feel better if worse came to worse and we had to amputate. I did get some great advice on what to ask the vet but did not ever think that I would need to highlight which toe to amputate. I am so sorry that you and especially Rogan have to indure this. I am very happy that he seems to be improving. to the both of you.
  12. We got him home last night around 6:00. We have strict instructions to keep him quiet. Last night was not a problem, he was exhausted. His toe looks pretty good considering, the vet used glue to to the area where Slick so kindly removed the stitches. This is after the first round of stitches. He is not happy Looking very happy after the 2nd round of stitches
  13. I thought we were finally in the clear with his toe. He had his stitches removed last friday and the toe looked good. He did well all week, we tried to keep him from running but the vet said it was ok. Yesterday after work, Slick and Gypsy were taking care of business in the back yard and the thunder was rolling. They are both thunder phobic and Gypsy started running around barking at the thunder, Slick took off after her. He comes up on the patio and blood is flowing from his toe, after a good look I can see that it is gaping open. It is now 5:30, I call the vet office and get the answering machine. I call her emergency number and leave a message. I get him bandaged up and bring him inside. In no time, he has bled through the bandaging. We put an IV bag over the bandaging and kept him lying down. At 6:30 my vet calls and says she will wait at the clinic for us (it's a half hour drive). The concern was that she was not going to have enough good skin to put stitches in but after she looked at it, she was confident that she could close the wound. She did the surgery last night and called us to say he was awake and alert at 9:30. She said he took a lot longer to come out of the anesthesia but his vitals were good. She told us that if the stitches do not hold or he rips them out, the next step is to amputate the toe. She kept him over night and called this morning to say that he managed to get his ecollar off and ripped 2 stitches out. We are now just waiting to get the call that we can pick him up. We are expecting more storms this evening so I want to get him home before they hit.
  14. The vet wanted us to leave the wound uncovered and open to the air for healing purposes. So, no booties or vet wrap. (Maddiesmom)-I am sure I have bruises all over my upper legs and bum from being pushed around and bumped into with the e-collar.
  15. I haven't posted in a while but I am going out of my mind dealing with an injury and need advice or sympathy. On June 1st Slick cut his paw pad out in the back yard after work. It bled for a while but I was able to get it stopped and didn't have much problem with it the rest of the night. Saturday morning it started bleeding again after he came in from his morning potty break and again I got it stopped. Around noon, I was taking a good look at it and moved his toe and I could see all his insides. It was obviously a very deep cut. We took him to the Evet and the doc said he would need stitches and that the cut was close to the bone. They were unable to do the stitches with just a pain block and needed to put him under. So several hours later we took a very groggy hound home. We followed the after care instructions and removed the bandage after 24 hours. For the first few days he was fine, then he started licking and we put him in the E-collar. Surprisingly, he did well in it. Gypsy is terrified of him in the e-collar though. We made it 1 week and I thought we were on the down side. Monday morning, 10 minutes before I had to leave for work, he ripped all his stitches. I bandaged him up and went to work. I took him to the vet that evening and she put 4 staples in. This morning he ripped out the staples and now he will need surgery. As the vet explained it, the way the cut is curved on his pad, she will need to make a relief cut so that it will heal. In any case, she cannot do the surgery until Friday, so I need to keep Slick bandaged and in his e-collar until then. God help me!
  16. I have one of each, Gypsy likes to rub her neck in stinky things and Slick likes to do the happy wiggle in the sunshine.
  17. Welcome from another buckeye! It sounds like you have a greyt head on your shoulders and have done your homework. Can't wait to follow your adoption process. Don't forget to post the pics!
  18. I laugh because that is close to what happens here (without the upchuck though)!
  19. I just love happy endings. Sadie sure is pretty girl, I can see how you fell for her. Good luck with the heartworm treatment.
