  1. He's really doing great No limping at all, still not letting him run though and only goes up the stairs at night when we go to bed. Might let him have a stuffy to play with in a couple of days, just want to make sure first. on the other hand Major started running around the back yard yesterday like a crazy man (yes Major.. the comotosed greyhound was running) and now HE'S limping : UGH!!!! So I gave him half of a Rimadyl this morning and will keep an eye on that too. I'm convinced that Major's is a pulled muscle or he stepped wrong or something. He's not crying or anything, just limping but he NEVER runs and was freaking tearing up the back yard last night so I'm certain he did something from his run. If it doesn't get better in a couple days then off to the vet I go with him.
  2. He's doing just fine Thank you guys for checking Still hoping it was just soft tissue
  3. GOOD NEWS at least I hope this is good news : He pee peed tonight standing on the bad leg and hiking his good leg First time he's done that since last Sunday Hopefully that is a good sign
  4. Yeah, have been adding it to his food. Will continue with that too.
  5. Thanks so much everybody. Again, no news is good news. He's doing just fine, hardly limping at all anymore so taking that as a plus. I'm still going to do the 2nd set of x-rays in a couple weeks but he really seems to be doing fine Hoping for more good news in a couple weeks.
  6. Hey Guys, just checking in. No news is good news.. but like I said, no use worrying right now, we won't know anything until I get the second set of x-rays in a couple of weeks. Until it's just business as usual (except they are getting lots more kisses and lovies) He tried to run on it again this evening when I got home from work I told him one more time and it's back to leash walking around the yard. I think he knew I meant business because he walked real slow after I yelled at him. Yes Donna is right, Major has turned into a MAJOR MONSTER He's been chasing the cats like crazy (they chase each other all the time, but he's doing it every time they move) Plus he went on a barking spree last night while I was trying to sleep might have to get out the peanut butter if he tries it again tonight. Thank you again for all of the continued prayers and support. Surprisingly I'm doing really well, just trying to stay focused and not get myself all upset if it turns out to be just a bum leg.
  7. Thanks guys He's doing good today, and I'm doing good today (other than a massive allergy attack) I took the day off and we all slept all day long. I went back to bed at 10:00 a.m. and didn't wake up until after 4:00 p.m. I guess crying my eyes out all day yesterday combined with cutting my grass last night didn't agree with my sinuses. He finally ate today and is eating like a piggie right now I gave him 50 mg of Rymadill about 3 hours ago and will give him another 50 before we go to bed tonight. I know he's feeling better though because he bugged me while I was eating (good sign), he also chomped on a stuffy that was out in the yard (I put all the other one's up, forgot about the ones in the yard.. they are put away for now too) and he growled at the cat :lol yep.. he's feeling better. He's still walking with a limp and tried to pee by hiking his right leg.. didn't work out so he switched legs and hiked up the bad leg and peed just fine. Thank you for the continued thoughts and prayers, keep em' coming. Like I said, I'm just going to treat it like it's a soft tissue injury and we'll know more when I take him back for his follow up x-rays in 3 weeks. One day at a time and we'll go from there. I'll keep you guys updated as much as possible, (even if there is no change) No news is good news in my book
  8. Thanks guys Well he's still sleeping (I guess he's wiped out from his adventure at the vets office) and hasn't budged for a few hours (other than a couple of old man groans every once in awhile) so not gonna force feed him tonight, I'll just wait until the morning and try to give him the Rymadill then. I wish I still had my futon mattress in the living room oh well.. I'll just sleep on the couch. I don't want to make him go up and down the stairs right now and I'm not in the mood to carry him up and down tonight either. I'm not about to leave him down here and go upstairs alone. Yep the couch will be just fine Well I can barely keep my eyes open my own self so I better get some rest. Thanks for the encouragement
  9. Thanks for the well wishes everybody. I think right now I'm just too exhausted to think about it. I cried the whole way to work this morning when I left the vet. I was just numb and have no idea how I got to work (I swear I felt like I was driving in circles) but I finally got there and cried some more. My co-workers were AWESOME about talking to me all day and keeping my mind off of things, staying busy and just trying to keep me up beat. When I went to pick Black Jack up, I saw the x-rays and felt a little better because the spot I did see was very small so it gives me hope. Once I got Black Jack home, he and Maj got a TON of lovies and kissies from me and some more tears were shed. I tried to log on to work and get some work done, but my mind just wasn't in it so figured I'd go outside and do some yard work and log back on to my work computer once the sun went down. I think that was a good call because I got some yard work done and was able to focus on my "work" work. I talked to a few of my family members/friends on the phone tonight and they all seem to think I'm handling everything really well. Like I said, I'm trying to keep a positive outlook and no reason to get myself all worried and depressed for no reason right now. Regardless..... he's STILL here, he's STILL in good health (other than the limping) so just have to love him like I've been doing all along Treasure every minute and make the most of things while we still have each other. Life is too precious to sit around being depressed, he's still here and he deserves my love right now, not my tears. So I'm gonna try my best to do just that. There will be time for crying later (hopefully much much later) just have to convince myself soft tissue damage and I intend to do just that for now. So everybody think positive thoughts with me and hopefully everything will be just fine I'll update the post when I can (so don't think the worst when I'm not on here) remember, I don't have access to GT from work anymore and most of my nights are filled with yard work these days. Thanks again, your thoughts and prayers really do mean a lot
  10. VET VISIT UPDATE: I saw the x-rays when I went to pick up Black Jack and there is a very small spot on his bone. It could be due to soft tissue damage, it could be due to cancer.. at this point just sit and wait. (and pray real real hard). He did good on the car ride home and laid down most of the way. Major went CRAZY when we got home and they both sniffed each other through the fence and Major was dancing in circles and clicking his teef like crazy. He was so happy to see his brudder. I moved their food bowls downstairs to the living room and blocked off the entrance to the stairs. (I also locked up all of their toys just to make sure he's not tempted) They've both been really good and just laying down and sleeping. I've let him out to go to the bathroom a couple of times and stayed real close by to make sure he didn't run on it. He didn't even attempt to, just taking his time and going slow. He hasn't eaten anything yet so haven't started him on the Rymadill, (he's still sleeping) if he doesn't show any interest in food in the next hour or so, I'll make him some white rice and see if he'll eat that then give him the medicine. (50 mg twice a day) So just trying to keep my mindset in the "wait and see" approach and prepare for the worst but hope for the best and see what happens. I'll keep ya'll updated. Thanks for the prayers.
  11. I don't have the energy to type a new post so I'm just going to post the e-mail I sent to my family today from work. Since I went to work late and left early I need to work 2 1/2 hours from home so might not be back on tonight to check responses. Please keep my monster in your prayers Friday morning I noticed Black Jack's hips were a little stiff and figured, well he's almost 10 years old, guess it's time to start giving him glucosamine (it helps joints and muscles) so started sprinkling it in his food. Last night when I got home from Cincinnati, he was in the back yard and trotting across the yard and started yelping and limping on his back left foot. By the time we went to bed last night, he could barely get up/lay down and wasn't putting any pressure on it at all, so I took him to the vet this morning at 9:30. Dr. Goranflo did an exam and felt that he needed to do an x-ray to rule anything out (he didn't need to say it, I knew exactly what he was talking about). Osteosarcoma - Bone Cancer. I teared up and he said, try to stay optimistic, but he is almost 10 years old (he's old for a greyhound) and he is a greyhound (Osteosarcoma is the #1 killer in greyhounds and it runs very high, I've had several friends that have lost their dogs to it, all of them were younger than Black Jack). He said he didn't want to scare me, but he needed to be honest and there is a good chance that's what it is. So he wanted me to leave Black Jack there and call him at 2:30. I called at 2:30 and he said the x-rays were inconclusive. Most people usually wait a few days/weeks when their dogs are limping before they take them to the vet (if you know me and know how much I love my babies, you know I'm not one to wait). So if it IS cancer, it's too small right now to show up on the x-ray. This type of cancer will only show up on an x-ray. There are no blood tests and there are no biopsy's at this point, it's just sit and wait. Osteosarcoma is a very aggressive cancer and life expectancy is anywhere from 1 week to 5 months from diagnosis (trying to stay optimistic here, he has not been diagnosed with it yet). So the only thing we can do is wait and see. Scroll down to Canine Osteosarcoma for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osteosarcoma He said the sore spot is at the top of his tibia and it could very well just be a soft tissue injury so for right now, that is how we are going to treat it. He's going to give me Rymadill (anti-inflammatory) and see if that helps. If the injury gets better in the next week or two, more than likely a soft tissue injury (generally takes 5-6 weeks to heal completely) if it gets worse, we'll do another x-ray to confirm if it is cancer or not. (regardless, he'll be getting another x-ray in 2-3 weeks just to put my mind at ease and if it IS cancer, hopefully we'll catch it early enough so we can treat it with medication and hopefully give him a few more months of a good quality of life). I love Major and Black Jack more than anyone could ever imagine and this is really hard on me right now. I will do what ever I can to give my boy a good quality (and pain free) life. I will not put him through chemotherapy and will not put him through amputation. If it does turn out to be cancer, then I'll just continue to love my boy as much as I can and spend as much time with him that I can until he let's me know he's ready. So PLEASE, PLEASE understand what I am going through right now. I do not have a husband or children (a.k.a "family of my own"), these dogs ARE my family and I love them more than you could ever imagine. PLEASE keep us in your prayers and hope for the best that this is just a soft tissue injury and I'll have a few more years with my monster. Please also understand that the next couple of days/weeks are probably going to be pretty hard on me emotionally. Please bear with me, I'll do the best I can.
  12. I was at the track today and saw it right after it happened Rest in Peace Eight Belles Jones: She Went Out A Champion - drf.com Jones: 'She went out a champion' By MIKE WELSCH LOUISVILLE, Ky. - At a press conference two hours after his filly Eight Belles was euthanized on the racetrack after fracturing both front ankles following her second-place finish in the Kentucky Derby, a choked up Larry Jones said: "She went out in a blaze of glory, she went out a champion. We're heartbroke. We're going to miss her." Jones had won the Kentucky Oaks the previous afternoon with Proud Spell. He also trained Hard Spun, who finished second in the 2007 Derby. Jones said he watched Eight Belles cross the finish and gallop out around the turn and was unaware that she had been injured. "She hit the wire running, I watched her gallop out around the turn with her ears up following Big Brown, and she did not appear to be in any distress," said Jones. "At that point we were kind of high fivin' and thinking this was deja vu like last year. I had trouble getting through the crowd to get to the racetrack and when we finally got to the track I saw Kent (Desormeaux) coming back and you could tell from the look on his face he was a little solemn. It was just not like he'd won the Kentucky Derby. Then I heard a horse had broken down and figured it must have been one of the ones who'd run poorly, and then someone said, 'That's your jock riding back on the pony with Donna Brothers.' " And when Jones finally got to his rider, Gabriel Saez, he learned the bad news. "He told me, 'Mr. Larry they put her down,' " said Jones. "And I thought, how do you put a horse down like this? We're used to trying to save them. I caught a ride in the ambulance to where she was lying on the racetrack and when I saw her I knew there was no way of her being saved." Jones says he didn't know what caused the injury, but that it didn't have anything to do with her racing against males for the first time in her career. Nor did he blame the racetrack, which was soaked by rains on Friday and early Saturday morning but was rated fast by post time for the Derby. "I see no reason for this," said Jones. "It happened a quarter of a mile after the race. If she was under a little stress finishing the race, was losing ground and looked like she was in distress, I would have second-guessed myself severely and kicked myself in the pants. She went into the race the best she's ever gone into any race in her life, she was so calm in the paddock, so confident. I know we're probably going to get criticized and second-guessed by somebody who'll come up with the idea she shouldn't have been in there, but it wasn't in the race this happened. She could have done this racing against Shetland ponies. All she had to do was pull up and come back and we'd be happy. Unfortunately that just didn't happen." Jones choked up again when talking about footage that appeared on the ESPN broadcast earlier in the day showed him exercising Eight Belles here this week. "She's been our family, she's been with us for a year and that was my last ride on her," he said while choking up briefly. "Losing animals isn't fun. It's not supposed to happen. We're going to miss her." P.S. Eight Belle's Actual Foal Date (Birthday) was 2-23-2005

  16. OH MAN Aimee, when we got Goody, she was in heat and my vet has us wait 8 weeks to spay her. Honestly I don't remember hardly any blood at all, I think the first few days there were just a few drops but other than that, nothing She acted the same after she was spayed (and for the next few months that I had her) But anyhoo... it really shouldn't be any big deal other than keeping the boy doggies away from her P.S. Major and Black Jack never tried to mount her but they were already fixed so not sure if that matters or not.
  17. OMG! I think I finally know what you guys are talking about.... I went shopping earlier this evening and when I came home, Major had the TV on and was watching some doggie porn I looked over at him and saw this..... :rofl
  18. :rofl OMG!!! I totally forgot about that!!!!
