  1. I'm fostering a dog for an out of state friend as he needs to be near the hospital long term. He's had one complication after another but soldiers on. His latest battle is with his own obsessive wound licking! After his first chemo his leg swelled and irritated him so that he started licking. He wore a muzzle full time to keep him away from his back leg amp site anyway but he used to muzzle to rub his front leg! Wrapping didn't last and was bad for the swelling. We started using the evil cone and that worked for about a day. He discovered he could brace the cone against his leg and push it back his long neck and get at his leg. I stopped by my local vet's affice asking for any ideas and after looking at him and trying a few things one of the techs came up with a great idea! She took two of those solid plastic braces used for broken legs and cut off the shoulder section, used a medical tape to create a hinge and stick on velcro to fasten the whole thing. Mind you, she had to run home to do the cutting! Padded both ends and viola! A solid shield he cannot get off! Rebecca is a crafty genious engineer! He still has to wear the muzzle to keep fron chewing off the velcro but cannot get any friction on the wound. All the techs at this office are so great we LOVE going there!
  2. Poor baby. We didn't have this side effect. But then, she wasn't eating anything most of the time
  3. You will learn so much if you go! If he has his slide show look for pics of Zinger and Dennis and Bosha. (Just saw him this morning-I'm fostering a grey with major complications from his amp and chemo.)
  4. I thought Arwen had just torn the nail bed. No noticable break in the nail. Some bleeding. 3 days later she's still babying it and it bleeds occasionaly. The vet says the nail is broken way up high and possibly the quick. It needs surgery to remove the nail. So tomorrow she will have the surgery. Luckily the new vet in the practice worked in Kanas near a track and has repaired LOTS of toe injuries! Seems we can't go more than a couple of months without somebody needing some kind of treatment!
  5. I have friends who have had luck with a product called Traumeel. Given for pain but the dogs started really eating again. This is just one site that carries it. Others may know more about it. traumeel
  6. Don't mean to hijack Drake's thread but Notie is doing ok for now. He's being treated with gowns and gloves on and will have another surgery on Fri. Planning to spring him on Monday.
  7. Good ole Clavamox! Should have stock in that company! Hopefully this will be the end of the bugs! On a side note, I'll be keeping Tallgreydogmom's Notie here when he can leave the hospital, till she can get back up here. How did our harem picture come out?
  8. Here is the slideshow made for the ceremony. Lots of familiar faces Video links will be working later this week. Scroll down to the bottom for the links.slideshow Well, it seems it's not all there. I'll send the a note to see what's up.
  9. I would see if I could find someone with chemo experience.
  10. That is such a perfect way to describe hr! Thanks, I will remember her like that.
  11. This morning we chose to end Weany's struggle. She had compounding health problems adding to her osteo pain. This little girl taught us to never underestimate a stong spirit. She endured this disease with strength we did not think she was capable of. She was 12 in May. She was memorialized by Dog Daddy in his Dewey Art Show painting "Leeanna in the Leaves" several years ago so we will always have her beautiful face in full color to cherish. Her little corner is so empty now.
  12. I was so shocked when Barb called me Saturday. We cried together over the phone. Dr. Couto called her from Spain after recieving the e-mail. We just can't believe he is gone I will really miss them coming to Columbus. The boys and Dennis are together again.

    A Video Tribute

That was wonderful. Had me crying from the first page. It reminds me I have one to finish from a year ago.
  14. Been lurking this thread for news....
  15. Normally this is something that I could do but now for the next 3 weeks it would be difficult.
  16. Angel is my only one who takes her meds with peanut butter and, yep, she licks her leg for a good while after.
  17. The live support elements in Denamarin are at a much higher dose. It saved Weany whose liver values were 100 times higher than normal.
  18. Zinger with brother Dennis Littermates Liz and Jake
  19. I overheard someone in the waiting room at OSU whose dog was having a surgery for corns. It involved a nerve not amp. Maybe send a message through the greyhound health and wellness sight for more info?
  20. A truly wonderful and giving person. Dedicated. Seemingly inexhaustable! Whatever it is you have to do, he makes you feel better about it. Even if it's the worst thing. With Zinger and Dennis
  21. Arwen has one now. Her's were very subtle. She's a little anxious and whiney anyway so it took me awhile to figure it out. She was getting up earlier in the morning and this week I found a couple of puddles upstairs after only being gone 2 hours.
  22. What is the correct dose for Traumeel and how do you give it? Dissolved? In water?
