  1. she has her grumbles before her morning meal. I''ll try the bread at night--thanks!
  2. Lately Zola has developed a grumbly tummy (gas, I think), almost always in the morning. This wasn't accomapnied by any change in food. Nonetheless, I did make her boiled chicken and rice for a week but the problem persisted. She's 10 years old and I am wondering if this is just a normal age-related ting. Is there anything I can do to solve the problem? It must be uncomfortable for her, poor thing. Thank you!
  3. Welcome from and to northern Cal! We have two greys here and live south of SF on the coast.

    Strider

Oh, I am so sad to see this. Strider, you will be missed. Every time I hear that song from LOTR< I think of my long gone corgi and it still hurts after 6 years.
  5. Oh, I am so so sorry to hear this. Gustopher has touched many lives, through the tales of his exploits here. My heart hurts for you.
  6. Zola has corns on two of her paw pads. We have tried a number of things, including bag balm and the Murray apothecary cream. I am wondering about hulling one of the corns as its edges are clear and there is a ridge on one side that I can get a small edge into. For those who hull at home, what tool do you use? I've read the grassmere procedure; they say to use a dental extractor, which I don't have. Can I use a regular thin flathead? Thank you!
  7. I've not gone hru a loss of a dog when I've had two yet, but I can speak to the fear/floundering issue. My Brin is fairly skittish and looks to my Zola for leadership. When Zola is not there or not willing, Brin looks to me. For me, being a strong leader for her is showing that no matter what scary things are going on (fireworks, thunderstorm, etc), everything is ok. It's not that I won't give her a cuddle as need be, or hold her when shes trembling, but I will insist after a whle that we walk about the house together or even just stay in the same room and I will talk to her (in a normal voice, about my days, the news, whatever). This approach seems to work with Brin now although I suspect that if lose Zola first, Brin will need another grey in the house.

  11. I am so very sorry for your loss. Gentle hugs.
  12. Oh no, they're usually a bit standoffish but they seemed just fine. Hussies.
  13. So my dynamic duo (both girls) met a pair of male Irish Setters on the beach yesterday. Each male paired off with my hounds and started, um, licking their girly parts. I know both my girls are spayed so I'm wondering what brought on that behavior? Are these setters just a pair of randy males? Are my stunning 9-yr-old and 4-yr-old just hot babes who can't be resisted? Inquiring minds want to know! My dogs have been well-sniffed before but this was new. Guess they "got some!"
  14. I love the name Ravi for a dog! Anyway I think it depends on the grey. My two have no love for small dogs but I have known other greys who love their smaller companions.
  15. Oh, Jey. I am so sorry. She was a precious girl and I always loved hearing about her. Hugs...
  16. I am so sorry. Hugs. The pictures are beautiful.

    Mara

I am so sorry. I wasn't expecting to see her name here. Hugs to both of you.
  20. Zola is on soloxine and it seems to be doing its job well. I, myself, switched from brand name thyroid hormone to generic with no ill effects. Other people report the opposite though. I think it's individual-dependent.
  21. What a greyt name for a band--Shakey in the Rear!
  22. thanks! yeah, slick floors more than outside.
  23. I'm not sure how the describe this but my new girl ( 3-yr-old) is a little clumsy about her hindquarters. That is, she skids a bit and sometimes splays out on her rear. He back legs tremble quite a bit when this happens. She's pretty lean and not as muscular as Zola. Is there anything I can do to help her get more sure or stronger on her feet? Thanks!
